Hi Jenny , about the stove ....,you said the fire doesnt last when u close the doors ,...of course not ,..the most lower door has to remain half open in order to help the smoke go out ..., then when the fire s gonne you have to close it to keep the heat! Try it and update it to me :) , kisses !
Sauna in Swedish is "bastu". In case you haven't figured it out yet that sauna is your bathroom... If you don't have running water, the sauna is where you get cleaned up. You can heat up water inside the sauna and mix it with cold water to get the temperature you like and then you wash yourself in the sauna. That's how we did it in Sweden in the olden days.
I give you alot of credit. I'm at a crossroads in my life and trying to build up the courage you showed to make a big move. I admire you and am so sorry for all your losses. Wishing you the best. Susan from USA
im doing it, not moving to sweden but making some big moves, and it takes time to get your mind wrapped around it, andplus stay away from the naysayers or people that have a selfish agenda that like to see you stay stuck. Thats the first thing I did, dropped those people
So happy you know how to appreciate the hard work of the moles. My friends and I love their faces (sometimes one cachés à glimpse of them)and their ploughed Earth for our potagers😊
You mait already have got this tip for the logg fire. But when you start the fire it usually need a bit more air / ventalation to start of with becase the pressure in the pip is lower then in the stow. So keep the hatch half open for about 5-10 min . Until the fire have burned a good wile. Then you can close the top smal one, But be aware that the lower smal one the gridd need to be open to let the air in. only to be closed when you whant to put it out.
Seeing the inside of your cottage and the way it's setup gives me a better appreciation of my family humble beginnings..lol...I love it. I would love to own something like this it's quaint and quirky and warm and inviting...ENJOY LIFE
I love it. You made the right decision and got it very cheap. Your whole family will love it too, especially the children. Enjoy and cherish the memories that will be made in the near future.

Oh, my goodness, Jennifer!! You’re my hero!! I’ve been trying to see me in five years and I have nothing... due to our United States issues! If I could leave this instant I would!! Ireland, Scotland, Sweden or Norway - I adore them all! Please keep the videos coming and my heart is truly with you and your family! Wish I could be there to share a meal cooked on the wood stove! My childhood and early adult years were spent on my grandparents cattle ranch in Northern California where we lived such a wonderfully simple (if sometimes inconvenient) life! Good for you!! I’m definitely a fan of the lifestyle!!

I've just found your videos today and what a delight, Jennifer! I studied in Sweden for two years and miss it every day. Your pursuit of your dreams is so inspiring and I look forward to following your journey.
enjoyed your cottage video and looking forward to more. I live in USA and simple living is a craving I have always had. Looking forward to more viedos.
Very nice place. I lived alittle like this in northern sweden untill October 2017. Then i did about the same as you, But for me it was a move to a small village in Hungary. Its really an adventure to break up and start all over in a new place.
Hi Jennifer. Nice house you bought. A little unusual then with a small kitchen. The most common in old Swedish houses is that the kitchen is the largest room and so a small "chamber" as a bedroom. As you have probably seen, we do not normally have shutters, yes some have it as decoration. Hope you will enjoy yourself in Sweden and with us Swedes, we may be a little unavailable at first but then ...
Thanks Krister. The small kitchen maybe due to the fact it was possibly a soldatorp, but almost certainly the oldest house in the village. The neighbours have been really welcoming, so far!
I first went to Sweden in 1973 we stayed in Kalma. My guys parents were beyond fabulous, a little shy and guarded at first. For Midsommer we went to their country house and Rolfs Daddy made me a wild flower crown and we took the record player into the garden and danced around until after midnight. Sweden will always own half of my Heart. Australia 7.12pm 1 January 2021.
Thank you for showing us your lovely home I think it looks more beautiful outside than inside I'm not sure if it was your decor or some of the pieces all over the place but it could do with some work but thank you for showing us your lovely home
Hi Jen, you do have a gift for voice over work. That's a great sauna in the garden, a really good winter treat I always think. I love the cottage and the environment around but that toilet...
Love it! I grew up in Kansas near Lindsborg Kansas "Little Sweden" and I love the clean, bright Swedish decor! My mom lives there a couple times and so did I. My mom used to paint Dala Horses.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions...This will help a lot of people looking to make changes in life... Kindness your way Neil {Lochness Scottish Highlands }

Oh, yes! I would have bought that place in a heart beat! My great-grandparents came to the U.S. from Sweden, but I’ve never been there. When my retirement time rolled around, I moved to Mexico, and I absolutely love it here. But I keep thinking that I need to go visit Sweden. I’ve done lots of genealogy, so I know about zillions of ancestors, but I think I need to go there to get a feel for what their lives might have been like. Thank you for your tour and I hope you and your family have many years of Wonderful beautiful memories in your cottage.
Great movie, so glad you enjoy your cottage! Just wanted to say that those pine cones and bark in that basket are excellent fire starters. At least that's why we collect them and what we use them for. We use those for our woodstove and our fireplace in our cottage. And get the chimney sweeps in to fix that chimney - there's nothing like food cooked on a wood stove, I tell you! I don't know why but everything tastes sooo much better. I hope you'll be very happy in your new home. We actually moved permanently to ours as we loved staying there so much. :-)
Did you open the vent? When you get the fire started make sure the fire gets air from bottom. Aka don’t stack that with wood so much. Also close the door when you see actual fire going on and open the bottom door. So there would be air flow
We watched the Swedish Homestead for years but now they've moved to Austria but we still love them. Not sure where you are from. We watched your video when you just bought the cabin. We bought a 211 acre farm for our kids and grandkids but they never wanted to visit so we finally sold it.
Yes, I miss the Swedish Homestead too! I’m from the UK 🇬🇧. You’re not the first person to comment but the dream of the family enjoying it didn’t turn out quite how they expected.
Sauna in Swedish is bastu :) such a cute little house! I love the very old stove, must be late 1800s or something? My parents summer house has one of those, my grandmother grew up in that house and she's over 90 years old :)
Be sure and have the stove pipes/chimneys cleaned out on a yearly basis to prevent flue/chimney fires. That might be why the kitchen stove won't stay lit. Enjoy your treasure!
Or you haven’t opened the chimney, there is usually a metal rod sticking out of the chimney that you need to push/pull called “spjäll”. It is to avoid cold air coming down the chimney when there is no fire going.
Thanks Richard! I’m happy that I’ve made some choices which have meant that I’m able to spend time in this beautiful place, even though buying it was pretty nerve-wracking for a few weeks!
well done gal ,it takes a certain type of person to break out into the unknown, been there and still there all positive ,so now your next challenge surely must be to drive to sweden at a nice relaxed pace ,i have made a few moves like you have and have loved every minute of it, and i always took a plane ,that was until i decided to drive for a nice change ,and it was the best decision ever ,living next to the black sea ,my drive to the UK takes 3 days ,but the journey is fantastic and a lot more enjoyable than flying, good luck cleaning the flue ,but i am sure if you ask a local they will come up with a answer for you, a top tip about putting wood in the fire to make them last longer in the evening ,is to stand your wood in a bowl of water for 10 minutes before retiring for the night and they will burn slowly during the night ,,all the best ,,
You have probably already discovered that the pinecones make excellent kindling for starting a fire. You can even dip them in beeswax to make a fire starter, though isn't that the point of kindling? True, but the wax gives them super starting powers. 😁 Great cottage, great channel and fantastic video! I shall follow along. Thanks!
I love seeing you videos and your entusiasm about my country!! ✨🇸🇪 Use the rest of used Coffee not the liquid just rest ( kaffe sumpen) and mix it with Forrest soil and you can grow veggies and herbs easly Then during winter you buy (Säckväv)and cover it so i it is sheald from snow And in spring you remove it and it will grow again..
What a sweet cottage! I don't know you, yet I'm very happy for you, and sharing your enthusiasm & joy :) (BTW, I am Swedish by ancestry but have never been there...)

Great channel! You're living my dream and you've got a really beautiful place, you're so lucky!
Thanks Richard! I’m happy that I’ve made some choices which have meant that I’m able to spend time in this beautiful place, even though buying it was pretty nerve-wracking for a few weeks!
Welcome to Sweden!
Love this cottage !!!
Great tour and narrative. Love your cottage 💖
;looks so calm and lots of hygge... I love it x
Lots of hygge! 👍🏻
Hygge (Danish) in Swedish is mysig and in Norwegian koselig.
well done gal ,it takes a certain type of person to break out into the unknown, been there and still there all positive ,so now your next challenge surely must be to drive to sweden at a nice relaxed pace ,i have made a few moves like you have and have loved every minute of it, and i always took a plane ,that was until i decided to drive for a nice change ,and it was the best decision ever ,living next to the black sea ,my drive to the UK takes 3 days ,but the journey is fantastic and a lot more enjoyable than flying,
good luck cleaning the flue ,but i am sure if you ask a local they will come up with a answer for you,
a top tip about putting wood in the fire to make them last longer in the evening ,is to stand your wood in a bowl of water for 10 minutes before retiring for the night and they will burn slowly during the night ,,all the best ,,
You have probably already discovered that the pinecones make excellent kindling for starting a fire. You can even dip them in beeswax to make a fire starter, though isn't that the point of kindling? True, but the wax gives them super starting powers. 😁
Great cottage, great channel and fantastic video! I shall follow along.
Thanks!
That's so nice! Love it
What a beautiful house! Can’t wait to visit soon

Use the rest of used Coffee not the liquid just rest ( kaffe sumpen) and mix it with Forrest soil and you can grow veggies and herbs easly
Then during winter you buy (Säckväv)and cover it so i it is sheald from snow
And in spring you remove it and it will grow again..
Thanks Tillymea, appreciate your suggestions for improving the soil!
What a sweet cottage! I don't know you, yet I'm very happy for you, and sharing your enthusiasm & joy :) (BTW, I am Swedish by ancestry but have never been there...)

Is Sweden doing well escaping the world madness?
Welcome to Sweden and congratulations to the new home! I think you will find the locals very helpful and full of knowledge how things work in Sweden in general and locally in particular.
I don't know why but I had the misconception that foreigners were not allowed to own property in Sweden.
May the Universe nurse your bruised and battered Heart back to full health after the loss of a child.
