- This all-new Kia EV6 is coming in hot!
This is the EV6 GT, and it’s one of the most powerful small EVs you can buy! The question is, can it compete with the Tesla Model 3 Performance? And can it justify the £63,000 price tag?!
Well for starters, let’s look at what you get over the standard EV6. In terms of the exterior design… Well, it’s all pretty similar to the standard EV6! Around the back, you’ll find a larger roof spoiler, a new rear bumper, and some GT badging. The GT also comes riding on 21” as standard, and it also has a slightly redesigned, more aggressive front end. Otherwise, it’s pretty much identical to the normal car!
It’s a similar story on the inside. There’s a fair amount of lime green stitching throughout the cabin, and you’ll also find a pair of new sports seats up front. Apart from that, it’s the same as the normal EV6… But then again, that’s no bad thing!
But of course, if you’re interested in the EV6 GT, you’ll want to know about the motor upgrades! Power output has been boosted pretty significantly, with the EV6 GT producing 585hp and 740Nm - that’s 260hp more than the regular dual-motor EV6!! The GT edition also comes with bigger brakes and tweaked suspension. The only negative, though, is that it’s about 100kg heavier than the regular car, so it tips the scales at 2,185kg.

I agree. I’ve had that idea for years.
Could also be argued that they lead to more complacent driving as people become reliant on the the driver aids over using their mirror's correctly or even looking far enough down the road to anticipate what is happening ahead of them.
Or one can buy extra convex side mirror stickers for a few euros.
Though useful, it's not really that hard to look before you signal, decelerate and then turn... Its an intentional proactive action, rather than auto braking where you are reacting to a scenario for safety.
Imagine 10 years ago someone saying a Kia would do 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds you'd have sent them to a looney bin 😂

I must commend Kia Engineers. They have excelled beyond expectation over the last decade. Just imagining a sub 4secs Kia is mind boggling and damn impressive. The drawing board has been brought to life. Well done KIA!!!

meanwhile their cars are being easily stolen, lighting on fire, most engines are recalled and owners are waiting for replacements, 6 models stop sale for transmission failures and every ev recalled for batteries twice and are now lower power "loaner" batteries. props for spending so much on advertising that people think u are doing a good job
Ya the past decade with over 8 million engine fire recalls and telling customers to park on the street incase of random combustion. Commend engineers for quality and safety before speed.
@@pppcorn Facts my guy. People are blinded by adverts. When the Kia management came out and literally stated that they cut quality out the picture to raise their profit margin hence why every single one of their cars are recalled.

I've had my EV6 GTLine2 for 6 months and I have loved every moment of it. I'm usually in eco mode but using sport mode in town and on the highway is just soooooooo much fun. My daily commute is 250km and it's an absolute pleasure with this car.
Remember this in few years, when the credit score system will arrive in west too. If you not a good sheep, they will not allow you to drive

My daily commute is 15 kms and it’s 1 hour on the way in and at least half an hour back. If he lives in Germany, he might take the same 90 mins for both ways :)

Love the new Kia lineup. Their interior design is spot on. Same for the new Sportage.
During the press launch, this thing was doing 0-60 in 3.2secs so its pretty capable. Would love to see a drag race between this, Polestar 2 performance, Model 3 Perf, i4 M50, Audi GT Etron, Taycan and lets thrown in an ICE for good measure. An M3/M4 Xdrive Comp.. yes please.
I like how the Kia EV6 doesn't look generic like most EV's. It looks very much like a normal petrol and I like it!
I have the GT and it's amazing all the tech by screens and all tactile controls.
I ordered the GT Line rear wheel drive back in march. So excited to get this car in February 2023!

I had a Kia Sportage until recently and it was a tremendous car to drive. Literally did not skip a beat in 4 years and had every bell on whistle on it. I am now eagerly awaiting delivery of my Model Y Long Range but this looks like a great alternative option and would not hesitate to back to Kia at some point in the future.
I had thought the same thing at one point but I quickly found out that once you go Tesla, you never go back lol. Model 3 Long Range and couldn’t ask for more. Every other car seems to have some sort of compromise but this car is literally what I would get if I had all the money in the world.

I honestly love how much of an equalizer ev powertrains have become. It seems like just about any manufacturer can pop out a pretty capable performance car these days without needing to redo the production line of the base model
Kia/hundai didn't need ev to be competitive. They make some of the best enthusiast gas powered drivers cars on sale.
None of these are performance cars. They are quick accelerating to a relatively slow top speed and nothing more. They are horrible around a track and have a very low top speed

I was lent a Kia Niro while my Stinger was in service and even that had a "Valet" mode, so I assume this will lol.
The acceleration of these performance EV cars is ridiculous. One of the single most attractive facts about EV. I really love the look of the EV6, even the standard model. Eagerly waiting on warp speed cars to appear soon 😂

matt do taycan sport turismo base model with all options for handling ( rear axle steering, ptv+, air suspension , etc.) and compare driving feeling with upgraded battery pack vs non.

Nice video, but I wish they would review the base model of the EV6, along with the basement models of other EVs. Most people will not buy the top of the line specs because of cost. I have a feeling that the performance metrics may change for the EV6 and other cars at the base trims.
Are the seats lower than the standard model? Most taller drivers don't have enough head room in the standard version, it stopped me placing an order after the test drive
Put my name down for 1 yesterday after taking a test drive of the gt line s back in March and I'm told i will receive it early next year.
Good luck to you if you're not bullshitting, everyone else is being quoted 30 months wait from placing an order.

The one thing that I did not hear mentioned was the heads up display that the Kia has which the Tesla really does need, as I found the speedo on the IPad dangerous. The other thing is the fact that the Kia has a hatchback which is far easier to use than the boot of the Model 3. The downside I think are the manual seats in the Kia which does not work if you share the car with another person. Also the build quality of the Kia is better than the Tesla, as is the after sales service. Their are many four’s and against’s for both cars, that’s why I bought the Audi RS GT which is twice the price but has the best of both and more.
Fantastic car, I really like it. Sadly, even today the range is very low...not covering my needs

The thing you mentioned about the range... isn't the supposed range (WLTP) measured when the car is driven in eco-mode? It seemed like you were in sport mode. My EV has a difference of about 50-70km with eco-mode compared to sport-mode.

Love a white EV6 - looks great. Aston vibes at the back. The only bad thing about the standard EV6 (top spec) had small wheels...I think 17s which look odd on a big car. Looks like the GT solves that!
Mine came with 20" which looks fantastic but is not so good for mileage

I’ve had a 2016 forte for soo long. It’s been a perfect car. I’m thinking about getting a used Stinger or a maxed out Optima. Seem like this is the model.

Great car! - but I wish they'd put in some centre air-vents for the rear passengers, as well as the pillar-vents.🇰🇷🤺
The reason it uses pillar vents instead of centre console vents is because, like the Ioniq 5, the console doesn't connect to the dash. There is no way for the HVAC piping to reach the console.
Pillars vents are enough no?
I like the fact a performance model with good seats, driveline and suspension actually can be had with manual seat adjusters and no big heavy, structurally comprising and/or wind-noisy glass roof. Recently, aside from the Type R, almost all performance models impose mandatory-optioned costly and heavy luxury to the detriment of dynamics. At least for 'normal' cars; not the P-car RS, stradale, superlegerra ilk.
I was thinking the same during his review. How often does the driver adjust the seat anyway? It's just added cost, complexity (to break), weight, etc. I feel the same about the sunroof.

Hey Mat. If you have another chance to drive EV6 GT, try drag race or 0 to 60 test in drift mode. That way all stability control will be fully off, and maybe you can have better time. GT mode have some little traction control. (Actually one of the korean car youtube channel able to record 0 to 100km in 2.991 sec in drift mode.)

Oh, it's fun to drive. It has a drift mode. It goes 0-60 in 3.2 seconds when the battery 🔋 have over 70% charge. Watch the Savage Geese or the Straight Pipes review of the EV6 GT. They have a blast.
Now all they need to do is release a non-SUV type one that's a bit smaller and lighter and I'll be all over it 😁 A Kia-styled and therefore more aggressive version of the Ioniq 6 with this drivetrain, basically. Or if Hyundai will just release the N Vision 74 (and sell it to me for £10k or less) then that'd do nicely.

@@Markcain268 What I'm saying is: We're nearly at the point where traction just won't allow us to accelerate any faster.
The Model S Plaid gets to 60 in two seconds. Tire compounds are reaching their limits. Sure, we can make more and more horsepower, but physics only allows so much grip. At a certain point (soon) we're going to reach the limit of acceleration. We can keep taking top speeds higher, but I think we're almost at the limit of acceleration.

While the performance is super impressive, there are going to be a lot of people crashing EV's due to the supercar level torque and acceleration. I have a feeling this will get regulated at some point.
Waiting for the inevitable influx of total write offs as people plough into walls, other cars rather than just bumping off them. I'm amazed insurance companies aren't charging a fortune for policies
Highly doubt it, performance cars have existed with similar acceleration for decades, the one thing we have now thankfully is automatic emergency breaking which is standard on just about every new car sold
The average car driver isn't driving a performance car it's 80-130hp typically and takes 10 seconds to hit 60. If you're already close to another object the auto breaking isn't going to kick in or stop you enough
@@Mouwcat Most people don't drive performance cars, they poodle around in an A to B beige mobile. There's a reason Ferrari, Porsche etc offer driving lessons to new owners of their cars.
I have the new model 3 LG. Car is pretty loud on highway above 120 kmh... I belive KIA EV6 must be better regarding noise going into cabin. Still the car is nice and easy to ride, software with this new AMD chip is great, way faster with no lag compared to INTEL in the 2021 model.
Is the lack of Carplay a UK thing? I am currently seeing that it is standard on US models.

What makes you believe that when sales are increasing for pure EV faster than any other category?
@@petersylvester2905 Many made the same mistake about diesel engine vehicles, if you want a shopping car or a commuter at an inflated price then fine but for the real world we're not ready yet.

I like the tech behind this car, but am not thrilled by the design. I feel like I would get tired of looking at it fairly quickly. Oddly enough however, the Hyundai 6 has grown on me in recent months and I would love to have that in the "N" version if and when it becomes available.
Comfort mode in the suspension may have hurt the time a bit.

You can’t order the matt grey, which is a shame. When I last checked you could only order one colour. Doesn’t seem to be hurting sales though.
Was curious to see what you made of the lack of battery capacity. You were pretty generous. Other reviewers have been much more savage, but how much it matters may depend on your location and lifestyle, I suppose. A ~100kwh battery would make more sense for that kind of performance, IMHO (yes, noting the weight would increase).
So I hear they've been having motor problems and they aren't covering the repairs is that still the case
Doubt it's the wheels making more noise but the tires appear to be Michelin and I reckon they're a performance tire whereas the GT-line (at least in the USA) comes with a Continental tire that's specifically made for the EV6 or for electric cars more broadly with "conti-silent" technology to add to noise reduction in the cabin. Being that this one is so much more powerful and meant to be handled sharper, I doubt the Michelins are trying to accomplish the same goal.
