indeed is one of the most satisfying landing this trick. Talking about being underrated, there was even a time when this trick was hated on and I never understood why, its a very stylish trick if executed following Jonny's instructions.
Because most people do them badly, or because they cant control their kickflip so they learn bad varials. Nearly every trick can be done well. Youll see good skaters get hyped on basic tricks or weird tricks, just because of how you made it look. Do whats fun, fuck the haters!
Because tre flips and backside flips are only a bit harder. Once you learn those you stop doing varials. They good to have in a game of skate though most ppl don't do them very much.
When I was younger, in I think 2002-2003, I remember it had taken me 2 years of practicing every day to land my first good kickflip. Idk why but it was extra hard for me to learn it. Then the next day, when I was showing off to my friend that I could land kickflips, he told me to try a varial flip. I didn't even really know what a varial flip was but I tried it and landed it 2nd try. Literally 2 years to kickflip and 2 tries to varial flip. Thank you for reading my blogpost.
Kickflips are harder to learn than varial kickflips are. Since you learned the kickflip first you had the flip technique down so all you had to do from there was pop the tail like a pop shove it instead of an ollie.
I'm new at skateboarding and currentily I'm in the process of learning ollies and pop shove its. I can't wait to start trying out kickflips and even varial flips. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I love your content Jonny, all the vids you do help so much and watching you do all these crazy tricks is amazing! Keep killing it! Abraços, do Brasil.
I really appreciate the heck out of you posting these. I started skating last month and hit my first moving ollie the other day at 30 years old. I’m wanting to continue my journey and seeing tutorials like this makes it much easier for me to learn and move forward. Thanks a ton and keep it up!
I learnt mine by doing Pop and flick only, i pop-shuvit through the toe-side edge of the tail so that the boards heel-side edge rolls up and i flick with my front foot to flip the board. Popping through the toe side edge helps get the heel side edge up and easier to flick for many flip tricks. I used this method to learn perfect switch varials a couple of weeks ago, and got a minor fracture in my switch flick foot on the same day.
Thanks for the tutorial Jonny! Against the popular opinion I think varial flips look pretty sick!🔥 Will try them next session altho my front shoves are way stronger than my back shoves...
Thank you so much for all your instructional videos. I'm 34 and just started skating with my son about 6 months ago and your videos have helped phenomenally.
I never had problems with this trick before and ive stopped skating few times and everytime i come back this is the trick i have most problems with thanks for tutorial
I haven't even learned the Ollie yet, but I just find his skating so good that I'll watch tutorials for tricks that I'll probably not even try for another few months.
Landed my first varial flips today I'm sooo happy didn't watch this tutorial for it but wanted to refresh myself with the trick so I keep in my head until the next sesh can't wait to skate again knowing I can do these now
You and your board are also going to move/land 6 to 8 inches to the left or right of you depending on on stance. That helped me learned pop shoves. Know your gonna go a little left to right. Anyways great tips thanks. Love varial flips
Style of video is great. Lots of slo mo footage, you can really see what oeg is doing what. I just wish I had access to this kind of info 20 y ago when I was starting up as a teen
Johnny Vinnie I learned these before kick flips but I heel flipping before that Ever get around to trying the hook impossible sex change keep up the good work!!!!
After 3yrs of skating I finally landed my first varial. Still can’t kickflip but I have all the basic shoves down so varials came a little easier than kickflips.
Hey.. 20 years ago it was a normal trick… but nobody’s did it, after they unlocked treflips…. A nice varial flip bs revert, looks nice ^^. Most dudes do tres, but in my opinion tres are easier than varial flips…. I also Never did them since I unlocked tre flips.. but I had a break for 10 years. Startet 2 month ago, broke my arm after three weaks;) and now I will learn every trick i like..
It's very funny, i never got to land a kick flip but varial flips were very natural to me. And when i tried to do a kick flip a varial would vome out instead. I don't skate anymore though.
i struggle to stay over the board, but that tip about really leaning on that front edge sounds like the key. But id love to learn how to do these kinda tricks like pros, where the board doesnt move off your centre but stays right under you. Thanks Jonny!
Hey Johny, would you like to learn a spacewalk? A classical trick with very interesting mechanics. I have been trying to learn it for some time. It's super hard but interesting at the same time. Would be so cool to see your journey with it. Love your videos, peace.
man... i have skated from 13 to 19 now i am 37 and all those videos about skating are poping up.... tried it this summer. took me a while but still got some tricks down after almost 20 years kick heel, pop shov it, nolli pressure flip. my ollie is shit tho! but fuck me everything hurt the next day and i work out 5 days a week consistently!! completely different kind of stress on the muscle! i miss it so much! but the injury potential is so high! not sure if it is worth it.
I landed my first varial The day after i landed The first kickflip an at that time i had only landed two or three kickflips. For me varial flips feel more naturial than kickflips, because you kick straight forwards instead of a little backwards.
For me it was heelflips and variall flip before kickflips. I pop just like a pop shove. And flick my front foot straighter than a kickflip. And not very hard. Although if I'm standing still I need to pop and flick harder than I would if I was rolling
Chabón me puse a practicar varial kickflip hace una semana y aparece este genio de los genios con un videito! ..parece que hubiera dicho -voy a subir un video explicando esta pavada a ver si a este boludo le sale XD
Idk y, but when i try to do a varial flip, my board just flys behind me and slightly to the right, but then again, im not tht good at pop shuvits, im way better at front shuvits, so when i attempt a varial heelflip, it just works very well, i have landed a few, but now i think im in a rut and im just overcomplicating it, but back to the varial flip, so ig i just need to get better at pop shuvs
I don't know why this trick is so underrated, varial flips are so satisfying to land

Absolutely agree. One of my all time favourite tricks to do.

Cool video. I still curious about what kinda trucks those are that you're riding
I litteraly searched for a tutorial while I'm trying the trick and this was just uploaded. Must be my lucky day
@backsideflip i don’t know how to kickflip but i can varial
i’m convinced ur not a real person but just a skate 3 character with extremely realistic graphics
🤣

i cant do kickflip and i skate for like 8 months with a 1 year gap after 4 months but i did varial flip after 5 tries i swear

Just from the first few seconds you immediately realize that this tutorial is tremendously helpful.
Thanks Jonny, love this style!
One of the most stylish varial flips I've ever seen.
men... you've done more for skateboarding than most people out there with huge resources and stuff, thanks for your work!
I haven't skated in around 10 years now and I am getting my first board since then next month so this is a nice refresher course
I had a 6 year break, now 45.
Great to hear you're back 😊🙏
@@larryjimbob That's awesome man - keep skating. Its sad seeing talented skaters drop off after their mid 20s to never skate again.
@@ricethelizard7713 I wouldn't say that I'm talented but I'm still going..... somehow? 🤔😁

Really great tutorial. Love the arrows, there’s always confusion when saying ‘lean forward’ etc
Thanks for the tutorial Jonny! Against the popular opinion I think varial flips look pretty sick!🔥 Will try them next session altho my front shoves are way stronger than my back shoves...
I love varial flips I don’t care what they say. I have a strong pop shuv and I’m trying this trick now
Skateboarding is difficult! That explains a lot!
jonny Giger, the only man hyped to land primo on his flip tricks ;)
Thank you so much for all your instructional videos. I'm 34 and just started skating with my son about 6 months ago and your videos have helped phenomenally.

thank you for this. currently learning v flips

Love the new style of this tutorial.
The most recent trick I have learned is this, but starting from rail, hopefully I can learn a proper varial soon
i was just thinking to look for a varial flip tutorial today and now i see you uploaded one, thank you i guess ahah

Thank you for what you're doing for the skating community.
This video came at the perfect time, I am still trying to figure out how to level out my ollies properly
Dude, your varial flip is so good that looks like a nigthmare, keep it up legend, your making history
This is my favorite trick
Johnny Vinnie I learned these before kick flips but I heel flipping before that

Yes. If your board is moving away from you when you're performing pretty much any trick. Try leaning harder in that same direction
@@hitmanhatton Full send and commit! Lol if landing New tricks didn't feel so dodge, that would be easy.
@@Apr0x1m0 you're right. It's easier said than done.
the first "trick flip" that i land was a varial flip. 15 years ago it was very easy to land it for me compare to kickflips

Please do a feather flip tutorial
I use to be able to varial flip better than I could kickflip.
Kickflips were my kryptonite.
I loved doing kickflips. I used to be able to pop a triple/quad and it would look like I am gliding through the air (in slow mo ofc)
I’ve only been skating for 6 months and landed this before my first kick flip
I could never kick flip all that well, but I was pretty good at varial flips. Fun trick to do.
Wow, I sound old.
Hey Jonny- do u have any advice if your front foot keeps blocking the board from finishing the varial flip?
Good vid Johnny I Ben struggling wit varial and kick flips I can heal flip but I always land my front foot just of the side when I do varial 😡🤬
Out for 7 more weeks after getting back on after ten years wont be long but missing it already (radial head fracture)
I landed my first varial The day after i landed The first kickflip an at that time i had only landed two or three kickflips.
For me varial flips feel more naturial than kickflips, because you kick straight forwards instead of a little backwards.

I would like to see even more force vector arrows. Maybe someone can help making a 3d gizmo that u can use in your editing software
Aloha Jonny, coould you please do an Airwalk Tutorial? Thank ya uwu
Nicest trick on earth
I see you've switched from Krux to Aces. That's a huge change. Can you do a new board setup video?
ive done one sometime ago, its called why i carry 7 boards in my trunk 😁
More giger
Varials are easier than regular kickflips because most people know how to shuv it before kickflip
Ever since I learned tre flips I can’t do these anymore sadly but still a cool trick gana try and re learn them but ever since tre there impossible!!!
A high, clean varial that flips under you is infinitely better than a sloppy tre flip.
awesome

A good trick for skate for sure even though it's a beginner trick lol
I’m really close, but the board keeps hitting my front foot while rotating
Hey man i love to skate . i would love if you would send me 1 of your set ups i would greatly appreciate it lmk?
Idk y, but when i try to do a varial flip, my board just flys behind me and slightly to the right, but then again, im not tht good at pop shuvits, im way better at front shuvits, so when i attempt a varial heelflip, it just works very well, i have landed a few, but now i think im in a rut and im just overcomplicating it, but back to the varial flip, so ig i just need to get better at pop shuvs
after learning 360 flips my problem is not doing 270 flips while trying varial flips
So a Varial Kickflip is BS Shuv and Varial Heelflip is FS Shuv?
And then Hardflip is FS shuv and Inward Heel is BS Shuv?
Yess
This was a great tutorial video. Very well broken down with good information/instruction 👍
More tutorials to come Jonny? 😊🙏
Hey I'm that guy that could do varial kickflip before kickflip haha
I keep varial flipping trying to pop shuv any tips?
