This console didn't just flop it fell flat on it's face, that Jaguar CD add on was discontinued before it even went on sale in the country I live in, it never even made it into the stores.
The dental company bought the molds for the Jaguar and cast white cases with a few minor adjustments. They aren't regular cases painted white. I have one I bought off the company. The actual metal molds came up for sale once or twice but were asking a huge sum!

I'm pretty sure two RISC 32-bit processors (I think it has) won't equal actual 64 bit processors. It may have an advantage against traditional 32 bit console CPUs, but not as powerful as a native 64 bit processor. Regardless, the rest of the hardware was undoubtedly inferior to the later 32-64 bit consoles and wouldn't come close in performance.

I got my Jaguar at launch, still own it and working great. I got a Jaguar CD at launch and it is one of the most quiet, efficient drives I have ever played on and works perfectly to this day. Starfox was good but nowhere near the technical level of Battlemorph. Unfortunately the Jag CD came out late in the very short Jaguar lifespan so very few games but a good collectors piece and worth noting games are still being released on Jag and Jag CD on homebrew.
The draw distance in Battlemorph is abysmal; non-existent. I thought SM64 on N64 had bad draw distance, when you’re flying, trying to get coins; but, just *WOW!*

When you encounter a Red Screen while starting up your Atari Jaguar CD, that means their is a Cartridge Load Error. Try tilting the Cartridge and it should work.

I had a Jaguar CD and a handful of games for it, but the only thing I ever used it for was to play music CDs. The audio-visualizer in it was actually pretty decent.
A bunch of these Jaguar consoles ended up in kiddie rides like the white semi trucks that were in Walmart stores in the 90s. Carousel Amusements in Eldon MO built quite a few of them.
Classic example of a console trying to do 3D when neither the hardware, software nor controller (which is technically hardware, but I'm counting it as its own thing) were ready for it. The Sega Saturn was another one of those, though it did do better. The 3D here is hardly better than what the SNES could do with the Super FX chip.

It had some really bad games, but here is the thing it had some amazingly good games like Rayman that was later ported to the playstation. A kick ass version of wolfienstien 3d (pc one still is the best though), and amazing ports such as total carnage. It had its fair share of bad, but it had its fair share of good, most of them either being ported to other systems or gems such as zoop & tempest 2000.... But yeah it had a lot of bad games... heck some games for the system only recently came out so I wouldn't down play it that much.
barrybear2012 It's my understanding that it was developer friendly due to the use of a vanilla 6800 unit at its core. This design choice also inhibited its performance but i think at release the only console remotely close was the 3do which was far too expensive. Yes, uncovered cartridge slot was bad, dial pad controllers were weird and the cd add on was a complete pile of garbage.. but the console would have been very serviceable with a better library of games.
He's half-right about the dental equipment thing. They didn't use the shells from Jaguars and painted them white. They actually used the molding plates used to make the shells for the Jaguar to make shells for their equipment, not to mention they also used the plates for the cartridges to make memory cards for the same equipment.
I remember seeing pictures of some of these games in EGM back in the day and I would wistfully stare of them wishing one day I could play a game with such great graphics. Seeing it in action makes me so glad I never had to endure the massive disappointment it wouldve brought. Great episode, guys!

I remember seeing pictures of some of these games in EGM back in the day and I would wistfully stare of them wishing one day I could play a game with such great graphics. Seeing it in action makes me so glad I never had to endure the massive disappointment it wouldve brought. Great episode, guys!
