    I get asked this a LOT in comments - I purchased my metal bag tags from Guangzhou Topwin: gztopwin.en.alibaba.com/
    I have also gotten woven tags in the past from Custom Woven Labels (yes, that's the actual biz name): customwovenlabels.com/

    I made bags to sell for the first time and very proudly made vinyl lables to put on my bag because custom ones would be expensive right now. When I showed my husband he said they look more professional that way and that I should increase my price, since it's not just "some bag" anymore

    Exactly !! All the big “designers” put their bag tags on their purses, why wouldn’t independent makers put their bag tag on.

    • @RogueStitches
      @RogueStitches ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly this... Just because an indie designer isn't established yet, doesn't mean they shouldn't brand their work.
      Imagine purchasing a bag from someone at a craft fair that has branding, and then a few years later with the bag lovingly tucked in its dust cover in the closet, you discover that the maker has gotten huge and their bags are way more pricey now... You can say you have a piece from them when they were just starting out.
      Yes, I'm weird and imagine scenarios like that all the time. That won't ever be me, but it's a cool idea.

    It's sad that people say things online that they wouldn't say to people's faces. I agree with you 100%, branding elevates your products, and I love the idea of using smaller labels on smaller projects. If you don't want a flashy tag on the outside, put one on the inside. I love your style, keep it real, girl!

    🎉🎉 I challenge the label naysayers to this: add labels and/or tags to some of their own bags. See how it looks. See how much better they sell. It is absolutely *not* narcisisstic to take pride in your well-made and handcrafted work.

  • @elainefagin513
    @elainefagin513 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I agree 100%. Even if your bag tag took up the entire front of a bag, it's no one's business but yours. If people don't like the bag tag then they won't buy your product. Period. I managed a designer bag store and there were a small group of people that would NEVER carry a bag with the branded fabric and would NEVER use a leather bag with initialed tags. They carried the bags because of the way they were made but didn't want to be free advertising. Honestly, everyone is allowed to do whatever they want. If you don't like it - don't say anything- just don't buy the product. It's no one's business how you conduct yours.

    Sign your art! Whether by tag, ink, stitch or paint. Someone in my own family asked if they could remove my tag. No, you'll rip the bag. I don't make them anything anymore. Everyone else is thrilled to have my rainbow metal tags. My name is unusual so why not use it as my brand? I've had the branding since 1995. I'm now retired but still creating and using my gorgeous logo. I'm glad you brought this up. Thank you, I agree with you.

    I personally do not like any tag on the outside of a bag. (I stopped buying Coach a million years ago. If they want me to advertise for them, they can pay me.) I spent a lot of time designing my logotype and I love it. So, my solution to suit my taste and feelings was to make a fabric tag that I put inside the bag. Sometimes inside a pocket, sometimes somewhere else. Whatever feels right for the style and size of the bag. That's my choice. Why would I insult you because you made a different choice? Why would I dictate to you what your choice should be? It's none of my business. It's your business and your business. Run it as you see fit. Keep up the good work and stay Fierce! 👍

  • @cafeldmann1

    I love my metal bag tags, but I try to use them in a way that I feel best compliments the bag I'm making. So sometimes it will be on the front, sometimes in the back, and sometimes I will put a label inside. (And more often than I care to admit, I forget to put one on at all!)
    Mine are about the same size as yours, so I need to work out a smaller version for little things.

    I hadn’t realized that people were so against bag tags. I cannot believe how unpleasant people are willing to be when online. They will “say” things that they would never dream of saying to someone in person because they have the illusion of anonymity.
    I’m a hobbyist and love the look of the metal bag tags. I definitely feel like they make the bag look more professional. I currently use the generic “handmade” or “custom made” metal tags whenever I can. If I ever decide to start selling, I would totally get branded tags as soon as I could afford it. Your tags are beautiful and make the bag immediately identifiable as coming from you which is a subtle and tasteful way of advertising through your customers. If I had seen one of your bags in the wild and wanted a bag, I could google based on the name from the tag.

    I just started using metal bag tags for my purses and wallets because it looks more professional. In my smaller makes, I have sew-in care tags (project bags). I started doing those because I would watch knitting podcasts that would be like “I don’t remember where I got this bag!” Now, my fabrics are very distinct (I only use Japanese fabrics I hand-select in Japan), but that right there was an easy thing to incorporate to reduce the possibility of lost income.
    Would I want the metal tags on my project bags? Maybe now. And I might switch, because my current sew-in tag supplier is now gone. But at the time I had to do the most economical I could.

    I'm mostly a hobbiest with hopeful potential to make this into a business. My mother in law took one of my bags for a friend of hers who rejected the bag because it had a "handmade" bag tag on the front (**bleep**!!). MIL (in her 80's) informed me that her friend asked for a bag with the tag on the inside if i have to use a tag (again **bleep**!!). AT first i was bewildered... however, after thinking about it, i will accommodate (especially if they're paying for a custom bag), but I also agree with you that it's like an artist s'signature that differentiates your bag from everyone else's out there. I put a lot of time and effort into well made beautiful bags and i feel that it is is very appropriate to have a tag on every one of them.

I wonder if the people who call you a narcissist rip the tags off the bags they purchase? Seems like it shouldn’t even be a topic for discussion. I have never heard anyone complain about bag tags? I have the soft fold over ribbon tags for my things and they go on every product.

    I always make my bags with a subtle tag on the inside. Never been into bags with big labels. Guess we all make it how we like it and buy what we prefer.

    Saw a post a few days ago where they were putting down the use of the tags that just say "Handmade". I made popcorn and went to the comment section.

    I finally bought bag tags and I love them! I make bags for me, family and friends. I don't sell them though I'm told I should; my response is that I enjoy the learning and creative process and if I sold them it would become a job to me and I don't want that! Fortunately retirement allows me to do what I want when I want! Those of you who do sell your creations should absolutely place them on all your bags, be proud of what you have made and never apologize for that.

    People who use the word ‘narcissist’ need to be shown the word ‘ignorant’, to which THEY need a label attached…

    I made dozens of quilts years ago. I didn't sign them. When I saw that my neice was using one with her baby I had to ask her if it was one I made. That is rediculus. To work so long and hard on something that turns out so beautifully and not take credit for your work. I won't let it happen to me again. I currently have an iron on label that I put on the inside, but I want to design a metal one for the outside.

    What would you say to a customer that wants a bag without the bag tag? I feel like if I made the decision to brand my work with a subtle and classy tag than it is part of the bag and the customer should accept it the way I made it or not buy it. But how would you say that to a customer? In the past I have just agreed to make another bag without the tag but I was not happy about it.

      I wouldn't take the order. No way. It's a huge red flag for me if they can't respect my brand.

    All things aside. The value to the receiver goes up exponentially when it came from someone that made it. A tag makes it special

    100% agree with everything you said. This was an argument in the tumbler world as well. to put your logo sticker on the bottom or not. did some overpower the cup? yes but then folks would get better creative about a 'sticker' look and toned it down. some also started to actually sign their creation. I feel folks in this day and time feel they are entitled to be hurtful while behind the computer. These folks are usually the angels in person and would never (yes I said that in an accent) say anything like that face to face. Proportions do need to be thought of but that comes with time and practice. Not everyone starts out looking 'professional' but eventually they find their own groove. It's not anyone's business how someone else runs theirs. If it's not constructive criticism, then it's just someone being a bully... but shhhhh don't tell them they are because they'll deny it.

    I want bag tags. Just not sure where to buy them. I feel if you are going to sell your bags. They need tags. When someone compliments the bag. The person that bought it. May not remember where they got it. Soooo if you have a bag tag it's easy for them to say... oh I bought it from... etc. And I agree BRANDING!! lol. Love your sense of humor.
