      @@Euro.Patriot What? Twinsanity has some of the best levels in the whole franchise: Iceberg Lab, Classroom Chaos, Slip N Slide Escapades, Rockslide Rumble, Dok Amok, and of course Dingodile & the Evil Twins' boss fights. It has the best dialogue, the best humor, and the best soundtrack in the whole franchise. And it also has a wonderful open-world feel. Add to that all the cut things and it could have been the best PS2 Crash game. The only problem is the bugs and how small the actual game is.
      The worst PS2 Crash game is undoubtedly Wrath of Cortex. The levels are forgettable, dialogue is terrible, graphics are AWFUL, loading takes years, and more. The only good thing about WoC was the soundtrack, and lets be honest Twinsanity's soundtrack beats it by a mile.

      Did you know Crash Bandicoot the Wrath of Cortex was originally going to be open world and far more ambitious?
      It was ruined due to executives pushing for it to be released within a year to reach Christmas sales.
      At least it has one of the best soundtracks of the series, and also the forgotten and disregarded character Crunch Bandicoot who'll unlikely reappear (other than a cameo) in a future crash game because Activision (or Toys for Bob) don't want to touch anything Crash Wrath of Cortex related.

    Now that I think about it, seeing all the cut content brought back into the game in some form of remake would be iffy.
    Because while it would be cool to finally see all the things that were cut put into the game, not all of it would be good, and would ultimately affect many aspects of the game overall. However, this is a game that I still love despite its untapped potential, and this could serve as a blueprint for what a true open world Crash Bandicoot could be like.

    Great revisit, I feel like this game leaves a strong impression on everyone whether they like it or not. When you talk about the future of Crash gameplay regarding linear + open world I agree with that. Maybe each section of the game could have it's own open worldish hub area with the linear levels contained within it, kinda similar to Jak and Daxter The Precursor Legacy. Oddly enough I do feel like Twinsanity took a lot of inspiration from TPL in terms of combining linear and open areas.

    Replayed this game fully for the first time in a VERY long time this week. It was my fave Crash game growing up and I’ve always had fond memories of it. Replaying it exposed the massive flaws it has. Riddled with bugs, very short length, plot lines going nowhere, horrid camera, underuse of Cortex and Nina, I could go on. BUT, I still loved it, warts and all. I could listen to that god like soundtrack any day of the week, I could explore N. Sanity beach and hunt for gems for hours, I could get angry and fucking scream at the tv for the bullshit Insta kill nitro box placement for ages. It’s a disaster of a game, a busted broken trainwreck that barely passes as a beta, never mind a fully finished game, but god do I love it, and I’ll stand by it ‘til I die

    Twinsanity was always that one entry I could never pin my exact thoughts on. It kinda reminds me of DMC 4, where the game itself is good, but was clearly unfinished in areas (Dante's levels were just Nero's in reverse, and the game was not balanced around him as he snaps the game wide open when mastered)

    • @net945-x5g
      @net945-x5g ปีที่แล้ว

      The difference Is that for Crash twinsanity It doesn't make sense for It to be this way, the Gameplay in DMC4 resembles how the story should be, Since Dante in the novel for 4 actually struggles and even needs the Dreadnought Armor to be able to stand up to the Savior and Negate it's death ray and his full Power to be able to stand up to him until Nero seals the deal, It's not a cakewalk for him like many Say.
      Two completely different scenarios, DMC4 was rushed beacuse of cut content out of already Having a basis for the gameplay, twinsanity was rushed in within gameplay and lore itself, a remake with all cut content won't make It Better beacuse It's Story and gameplay that needs to be changed.

    Gotta say that it was awesome to get a new review from you even if it's just a re-review which honestly was more than justified. I liked the old review at the time and it's nostalgic for sure but I was hoping you would go back and give it a proper review with the matured and more experienced style you've developed since that time. I think your assessment of the game was totally fair and I agree with most of what you said. There's no question that if they just gave the developers more time to sort things out and fine-tune the game, it would've ended up in a lot better state. But for what it is, it's just one of those games that you either love or hate but seems like most of us really love it despite it's flaws and we appreciate the risks they took with it instead of playing it safe like they did with Wrath of Cortex.
    The open world was handled very nicely from a presentation standpoint, the way the locations were transitioned into each other felt natural and really helped sell that grand adventure type feeling they were trying to employ here and open-world was really the next best thing for Crash because it would've gotten stale doing the same linear levels over and over all and the Crash series had enough source material to fully commit to making a fully breathable world.
    All in all the game is not perfect but it's arguably one of Crash's most interesting games and unlike the Mutants spinoff, fans can admit that it was intriguing even if they didn't necessarily enjoy it. Anyway I can blather on forever so I'll stop there. Awesome re-review Jak and glad to see a new one from you, here's to 2022 and looking forward to what you have in store!

    Great video, Jak!
    That "ugly truth most people chose to ignore when it comes to Twinsanity" is something that has bugged me from day one: This game is a complete mess. Yes, music is a subjective topic (I love it), as it is the humour (It's a 50/50 for me), plus the locations and graphics are pretty solid. But the bugs (lots of game breaking ones, too), flawed mechanics, cut content, unskippable cutscenes, recycled content, USELESS Aku Aku, etc... is what brings it down in my book. I kinda like this game, but not a whole lot. I wouldn't give it anything higher than a 5/10. It could've been a lot better if it had more development time, but that's something we'll never know.
    Loved the impartial critique approach. Keep those videos coming, Jak! Have a great fucking day!

      Right. The game is just a true guilty pleasure. We know it's terrible and that if it was any other game that wasn't Crash, it more than likely wouldn't get a pass but because it's Crash and because they took the risk to breathe some more life into Crash's universe, we fans love it in spite of it's many many flaws.

    Yes i agree with you in that they can use Twinsanity as a proof of concept to open up a potential Crash 5 for a mix of open world and classic levels, but on the aesthetic and story ideas we already got the door open for multiple dimensions and higher realities, it would be a natural evolution from Crash 4 if you ask me.
    On the whole, while i love this game, and it's certainly a much more enjoyable experience than Wrath of Cortex, it is not on the level of the actually great Crash games such as 1,2,3 and CTR, i see it as slightly better than Bash, even though i love both games in spite of their flaws.

    This actually felt like going into different universes.
    I wished in crash 4, after beating N-tropy, the N-tropies escape to Tawna's dimension, where we see what a universe with crash losing is like. The sn@xx dimension could have easily been part of bermugula, we could have just gone from the nature part to the urban parts by going from crash landed to food run.
    Would have added more depth to N-tropy and Tawna, rather than just random characters to make the plot move forward

    While I agree with pretty much everything you stated, I still personally would love a fully fleshed out Twinsanity game. I know it would pretty much be a completely different game, and that's great! They should make it lol. Instead of polishing what's already there in a remake, they could take all the cut ideas, restructure them, and make something completely new. It would not only warm the hearts of the hundreds(thousands?) of people that have wanted to see the cut content, but it could also be something completely new and different for the next generation of gamers. And now that we're in a time where everyone prefers developers take their time, whether that be months, years, or even decades, it would make sense to try it. But they should make it a new thing. Drop the Twinsanity title, change some of the aspects to not make it look like a ripoff, and fully embrace everything that didn't happen while respecting the game that tried and failed. It would be a love-letter to Twinsanity, Crash himself, and all the fans new and old.
    And I'm not saying they should remake the cut content exactly, but to put in under a new vision and give it a proper home.

      Couldn't agree more. It could finally be the game it deserved to be, honoring the efforts and vision of the developers. And Spiralmouth, if still active, should do the new levels' ost for thosr who haven't. I would also be cool if they added new content like chatacters, levels etc. just so they could properly structure the lore while also conveniently extending the duration of the game. I can't stop imagining how great this new opportunity would be for both sides (companies and public/fans). Now, under Microsoft management, they should have plenty of time, money and creative liberty to make their visions come true, i hope. But damn Twinsanity is such a cool name, cant think of anything more "differentiated" than this, lol. Greetings from Brasil 👍

    My first exposure to any aspect of this game was seeing a video that paired one of the songs from this game to footage of a Storm Trooper hip thrusting. That was the peak of comedy to me back in middle school. And I had no idea it came from this game until a few years ago. The music in this game is simply magical.

    I loved Twinsanity, it was so unique compared to the other games. Instead of hopping from level to level, Crash goes from zone to zone as if it's an open world, but the game stays true to being simple and linear at the same time. One of my biggest pet peeves about open-world games, and new games in general, is that they aren't very simple. There's alot of mechanics that are boring and confusing to understand. Twinsanity, while not a very well developed game, managed to keep its core mechanics in check, and at the same time, made new mechanics and ideas FUN! For example, the idea of Crash using Cortex's lust for crystals as a whack-a-mole hammer is HILARIOUS and very clever! In fact, the interactions between nearly ALL the characters were funny! For me, I give Twinsanity a 7/10. But if there was ever a remake of it, with the CORRECT amount of time to develop it, that game would definitely be my favorite Crash game.

    Games like this make me wonder. What REALLY could have happened if they had way more time then initially given? What if, in the far far distant future, when we've discovered time travel, if we go back in time to games like this, that went through dev hell, and show the developers what their creation will look like in the future if they don't get their shit together, or are granted more time. We can only imagine

    Glad you mentioned the possibility that the game could have sucked regardless of the cut content. There’s a lot of ideas in the game I find inherently flawed and knowing that the engine was as easy to fuck with things in levels with as fucking Mario Maker tells me they were drastically changing levels every five minutes. The whole of development was just throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks and the amount of cut content accentuates that more than negates it. I love looking into what this game could have been as much as the next guy but like you said, for all we know it *could* have been awful. The final game obviously could have benefitted from a lot of it, but to be like “ZOMG WE NEED TO BRING THE GAME BACK WITH ALL ITS CUT STUFF” brings to mind a product that’s somehow MORE unfocused than it already is. Whether better or for worse things in development get scrapped for a reason, in this case it was 90% of the planned content

    I have realised some time ago that unfortunately most gamers only accept games that are 9/10, 10/10 and sometimes 8/10 (though they whine when a game they like "only" gets an 8), meaning everything below that is apparently junk that is not worth anything. And that is just so sad and stupid. It's important to acknowledge games flaws but we need a scale to rate them, compare them, it's not either "good or bad". I'm happy there are reviewers like Jak who clearly understand that. We can enjoy a 5/10 game, it's worse than many other games, it's flawed but there is still enjoyment in it.

Imagine if the devs had a few more months to polish things out. At the very least it's still remembered fondly by the Crash fan base so I guess that's something.

    I generally agree that the game shouldn't get a remake, but I do see a lot of potential in the idea of revisiting the concept for a new game. If they took the common criticisms of Twinsanity into account and focused on making something inspired but new and polished, it might make for a fun experience. Especially if they roll with the "optional co-op" idea.

    • @MSCLeap75
      @MSCLeap75 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well games like CTTR & the titans games did take inspirations from Twinsanity. Those games took the Crash & Cortex partner ideas and did something unique with it such as the car clashing mechanics in CTTR & the coop with Titans jacking from the titans games. Plus those games continue in the focused humor that started in Twinsanity.

    • @Crow_Rising
      @Crow_Rising 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MSCLeap75 I wouldn't really say either of those examples are what the fanbase has in mind when it comes to that kind of thing. CTTR and Titans/MoM have their own special charm to them despite their flaws, but it's not quite the same thing as Crash and Cortex literally teaming up in a classic Crash platformer with Co-op.
      Think something like Crash 4: It's About Time, but with Twinsanity style co-op mechanics.

    • @MSCLeap75
      @MSCLeap75 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Crow_Rising I see. I definitely wished Twinsanity did a lot more with the Crash swinging Cortex around with the crystal gameplay. Not a fan with how often the game separates them.

    • @Crow_Rising
      @Crow_Rising 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MSCLeap75 Yeah that was almost definitely what people were buying the game for back in the day. It was what was being advertised, and it was such a wacky and refreshing idea. Imagine if most of the game was like that, but a second player can pick up a controller or connect via online and wrestle for control as Cortex, swinging Crash around on the crystal instead.
      Probably the closest comparison I can think of is Portal 2's second campaign. The levels are designed to be completed cooperatively, but it's just as easy to do things to constantly screw each other over and betray each other's trust. This kind of relationship makes sense for Crash and Cortex, and would add so much to the humor these games are going for.

    • @MSCLeap75
      @MSCLeap75 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Crow_Rising "Yeah that was almost definitely what people were buying the game for back in the day. It was what was being advertised, and it was such a wacky and refreshing idea."
      I was one of them and was greatly disappointed when the tag team moves that they advertised were actually very situational to plot and weren't abilities that I can do at anytime with them. I thought they would be together throughout the whole game. Thought the whole game would be designed with freely using those abilities in mind. But nope I felt like I was lied to especially when finding out the spank move that was advertised in the back of the boxart was just an animation not a move.
      I was even more upset that lava caves was cut, when prior to the game's released I saw screenshots of that stage in a gaming magazine and it look finished.

    Is the intro new? Cause I don't remember it but I really like it, cool range of games
    Also your point about Nina is really the perfect summary of this game: lots of cool ideas, but the end result is a very short and buggy game. You create a whole new character with her own moveset and unique grappling mechanic.....and you play her once? It's not that this game needed more time in the oven, it needed to get into the oven to start with lol

    If they were to remake Twinsanity, they would need to completely redo some things from scratch. As fun as this game can be, it can't help but remain as a game that probably feels like it was gonna be cancelled, but was pushed out so they could make some money from it at least. Maybe the reason Twinsanity doesn't get a remake now is because maybe the ideas they had for the cut content just... didn't really end up working as well as it sounded? Idk, this game did impact the series in a certain way, but it probably should just remain as a fun and interesting experiment with a troubled development cycle.
    I'd rather they just work on Crash 5 instead.

    played this game 2 weeks ago for the first time ever. Love the humor, love the music, love Ninas first debut.... but there is also a lot of frustrating things, special mechanics like the bear traps to jump on or Ninas grabling move. Not sure if this is because of the game, or if it acts like this cause of the modern tv (like you can't play some old rhytm games on modern tv) but a lot of time I died cause these mechanics did not work properbly.
    I think I go classic megaman with this one and have a sorta love/hate relationship with it.
    Like I love the concept, the designs and ideas.... but gameplay it self...
