Actually is a very good cover, you play it on a higher tone for a great female singer and you add your touch to the guitar, what ruins the video is the faces yo make while playing the song. should I quit playing guitar in front of anybody until I'm able to play a Jhon Mayer style solo of a song nobody knows in the audience?

A number of guitarists I know dislike Wonderwall not because it is a terrible song by any means, but rather because some douchebag in a party would often use it to try impressing the girls around him with the acoustic guitar, and most of the time the tune ends up being played really poorly (sloppy strums, badly fingered chords, wrong chord progression, etc). Those who actually take the time to learn the instrument would find it extremely annoying and hence end up despising the tune after having many of such experiences, that is all.
Personally, I do not see anything wrong with Wonderwall. It is a very nice acoustic tune IMO, but just like any song in the world, it should be learned properly before being attempted live.

I was in a car with someone a few years ago and 'Smoke on the Water' came on the radio, she was just about the change the channel until I started talking her through the lyrics and explained what the whole song was about and I completely changed her mind about the song. Prior to that, she only heard people constantly playing the riff... badly, but it's a really clever, autobiographical song underneath that simple but iconic riff.

That was a great point you made about the art of simplifying music. I also subscribe to the ideology that music is a fundamental form of communication, like poetry or painting. Being in my thirties I remember all too well the cultural nnslaught that was Oasis in the mid-90s and I think the long-term trajectory will ultimately be favorable for that particular band. I noticed another commenter made the point that it was a particular type of individual in the late 90s who had a basic understanding of guitar that would use a song like 'Wonderwall' to impress. I definitely was witness to that exact scenario more than once!
Now back on the topic of simplistic music, my absolute favorite artist bar none is Bob Dylan. Obviously his lyrical ability is debatably unmatched in modern music and maybe even modern poetry entirely. But I've always felt that as far as a musician Dylan has always been underappreciated. When you listen to the lyrical masterpiece that is "it's alright Ma (I'm only bleeding)", it's easy to overlook the genius that his subtle guitar part is.

It sounds like Wonderwall is this generation's Stairway to Heaven. Like Pachelbel's Canon in D, Stairway had a very musically pleasing chord progression. This made it a hit among true music lovers, while it is simple enough to be within reach of people with an unsophisticated music background, or none at all (such as fans of rap). So it was a huge hit.
Meanwhile, it was one of the easiest songs to play on the planet. It was therefore not unusual for music stores to post a sign at the entrance FORBIDDING the playing Stairway to Heaven.
It was played to death. If Led Zeppelin had received a royalty check for EVERY time ANYONE played that song, Bill Gates would be working for them right now. As a result, that great song is accursed. It won't be until my generation is long dead and buried before anyone dare to resurrect that song.

Comment two years old but idc, don’t disrespect rap music as much of it is actually “sophisticated” music such as the likes of kendrick lamar (won a pulitzer prize and has 3 of the highest rated albums of ANY GENRE) and it is currently becoming the most popular genre of music. Thanks bud 👍🏽

    • @roalik4270
      @roalik4270 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@TMoneyGaming much of it is actually "sophisticated"? Do you want to rethink that sentence? Further, the fact that it is becoming the most popular genre certainly does not make it sophisticated. The list is endless a popular songs which became popular, not because they were sophisticated but because they were far from sophisticated. Jazz and classical are sophisticated, and that is exactly why they are not popular among the masses.
Sweet Home Alabama, Smoke on the Water,... Just two of the countless multitude of songs which we're very popular because they had a very SIMPLE musical hook phrase. It was something people could hum.
Ultimately, I could care less what music other people prefer. I don't care if they like rap. I will close by saying however, that it is the sophisticated fans of rap, unfamiliar with the concept of other people, who impose their music on the rest of the world by cranking up their dam stereo so loud. Not so much the heathens who listen to Jazz and classical.

Maybe it's a easy song for guitarist,
But if you can make melody which will stuck inside peoples mind in a good way, what more you want?
You can do sooo much practice and use much ass theory and make something which will be only understandable to those who understand and appreciate musicality..
And looking at today's music, yes it was hell of a awesome song,
What i mean by all of this is, u don't have to be so technical and theoretical musician, as long as you can make crowd, people happy then that's the success for any type of musician..✌

Wonderwall became the creep of Oasis really. The world fell in love with it while Oasis fans (after it's initial impact) thought that it was a bad song compared to the better Oasis songs. Even Noel and Liam talk all the time about how they dislike wonderwall and don't get why that's the one people chose as their Oasis anthem. and then of course you pair that with the fact it's so easy and came to epitomise the douche guitar player who wanted attention. But wonderwall still has it's moments, in the UK for sure. Get a group of drunken brits and it can be 1995 all over again

ALL THE TIME and everyone would crowd around her in awe, myself included, until I got my own uke and then that was literally the first tune I learned. Am, G, C. Over and over. Love the song but its definitely the Wonderwall of ukelele.

As a kids guitar teacher, Wonderwall is a very popular songs for kids especially as their right hand (or strumming hand) develops. Often the music you like when you're 12yrs old tends to become a shameful embarrassment when you're 16 - to 30 yrs old. That's why people don't like Wonderwall. Years ago my old band put together a Greenday medley for a private event we played. We would pull it out every once in a while at our other gigs and it was really funny how people reacted to it. They either really loved it or they absolutely hated it. But I'm pretty sure the people who hated it the most were all Green day fans in middle school.. Now that fact is a shameful secret for them.

It is a simple song but not as simple as "I have a dream" by ABBA, which has effectively two-and-a-half chords, (F7 & Bb all the way through except for one bar of Eb). "Happy Birthday to you" is (or can be made to be) more complicated.

Guitarists hate it because they can shred at 250 bpm but nobody gives a crap and the guy that doesn't know how to hold a pick gets all the attention. But in reality if you hate the song just because of this kind of reason , it just means you have low self esteem and you're very insecure.
For me, it happened before too, but I don't hate the song or anyone just because of that. I first heard Wonderwall in 2007 when I was just a kid in primary school, so it will always have a place in my heart. And whether people are watching me or impressed at my skills on the guitar whether it's easy or not, is completely irrelevant to me.

That said rhythm is the key in making your songs sound different so leads need to pay respect or learn rhythm.
