Small Q&A for this video:
1) Is your wife German? NO, my wife is not German, she is Dutch. Like me. Whenever there are Dutch people in American movies they tend to speak German, but I can assure you, it's two different languages.
2) Why are there so many ads? I HAVE NO IDEA, I'm sorry if the experience is interrupted too many times.. Can't seem to change it!
3) It's SO funny that everyone is coming up with songs that have similarities with this example! Keep 'em coming!
but the whole sentence is in german quite the same :V
@Paul Davids Have you also tried getting your button on your shirt sleeve stuck between two strings making a horrible plucking sound?
Ik dacht al die tijd dat je Amerikaans of Brits was😱🤣😅
Anyone that doesn't want any ads just download adblocker completely safe no ads anywhere. Best extension I've ever got.
Paul Davids sir this is your first video that ive watched and im already a fan now... that fast haha... i liked your video
He dropped the pick and found it we have found the true master of guitar
Thanks for the like man!
I have my guitar pick until now for 2 years
I lose so many picks and i also move house a fair bit. Youd think id find those lost picks but no even when the house is empty they are still gone.
I have my pick since i was grade 7
that's >
No, yousician isn't the best way to learn guitar. Paul Davids is
Yousicians good bruh
But the beginning seems so slow and frustrating
@@McMeyerKingOfAlles lolll
I learnd guitar watching John Frusciante on MTV in the 90ies, so... 🤷♂️
@@McMeyerKingOfAlles lmao
Paul: So now we've got something that sounds like this:
"Ever wonder why many people say they want to learn guitar"
Merchandise Aqua is he barring the second chord?
Mustafa Naqvi why didn’t you just try barring it yourself and see if it is the same?
error #404 yeah sorry lol
"and yet so few people actually learn to play"
That ad just dropped on me at that point tpp
Anybody love this guy despite him being slightly too advanced to fully follow his videos?
How are his videos doing for you now. Youre probably a master now
@@anasg007 Haha nah - I've gotten to a decent playing level over the years - but have been at the same level for a long time - a plateau.
I love the guitar but struggle to get fully interested in the theory - which I think is the next step I'd need to improve.
I don't actually watch much of this channel these days.
How are you getting on?
Absolutely. Love his videos, but once he starts moving into the Theory part he might as well be speaking Dutch :)
@@TheGavalanche yeah to get even better at some point you have to get into theory
As a beginner, I love watching Pauls content. If I don't understand something, I go away and try to learn how to understand. Each time I return with more understanding. 1000 times better than corner cutting content creators who will teach diluted guitar.
“Im looking for my pick, I just had it 10 seconds ago” I felt that in my soul. I set my pick down next to me and somehow it teleports across the room.
The couch hides many things my friend
i buy way more than i need and then purposefully scatter them around the house and truck. Now no matter where I am there's always two or three close by. Then I go buy another pack and keep it somewhere I forget. Edit: Now I got 99 problems but a pick ain't one
Picks have the ability to lose themselves in places where I haven't even been. "How did it get on to the windowsill? I haven't been over there this week, never mind today"
Dude, once I lost my pick, at home, which I had 10 secs ago and 'twas never to be found, not even kiding, I wonder where'd it go.
Picks are little ufo's, I'm sure of it
Paul: "All three chords have the D in it"
*Small Pause*
Nice.
And 69 likes. Awesome
@@saraskywalker2127 im not liking this to keep it at 69
@@matassakalauskas6975 Same dude. Same.
I was looking for this comment. Thanks
The D is the secret
Paul reignited my love for guitar. These types of videos got me to think more about chord construction and how chords relate to each other. I thoroughly enjoy these types of videos.
7:48 for those of you who want to hear the entire progression.
Gracias
Arigato
No it's not, it's actually at 9:28
SIMPLY GUITAR AD
Bless you
Intro is unrealistic
Normally takes at least a week to find the pick
Dropped mine half a year ago and im still looking for it :(
So true!!😁😁
I am searching for 2 years tho..
Mine has only been gone for 2 months and she just got back with two babies :(
Lenz Ma I still can’t find my pick!
I've spent the last 3 months going through Paul's videos, my what had become stagnated playing is improving dramatically and quickly. Big Up Paul!
Paul man, i know this is an old video so you might not see this, but thank you for all your work, you are a great person and an amazing teacher. This was such an inspiring video seeing you add these small tweaks to a few chords we all know, and making them sound wonderful.
I dropped a black plectrum in a white covered room, and it still disappeared...
Or phase in a different dimension
Well if you don't pick it up in 15 seconds it's legally allowed to leave
@@nickhughes7356 or ends up in a hollow body of the 5th dimension
Yes, I dropped an orange pick in a red tiled room and it disappeared until now. God!
@@blakeb4583 I don't know either.
As someone who never went to music school or took lessons in guitar, I now see how important it is to actually know the notes conposing the chords, the different positions and how to use a pick properly. I feel like such a low-level amateur watching this, I would have never understood the relations you're explaining by myself. But it does sound beautiful. Kudos to you for making this video and explaining how and why it works, now I know the void of information I have to fill in order to become a better guitarist..
You absolutely do not need to know the notes in the chords, certainly not their names anyhow.
Commenter339 7
You just have to know the entire fretboard..if you didnt...it would help.
Learn the fretboard in C MAJOR/Amin
You can use the fretboard like a SLIDE RULER to play in different keys
The lesson is in D MAJOR/B min ( SLIDE EVERYTHING UP 2 frets)
All the notes and chords will make sense to you..or you'll see it faster.
Hear it ect
Just pretend you're running your fingers across ALL the WHITE KEYS
on the PIANO....but it's now tune to D MAJOR/Bmin
Any combinations of those white keys will work.
You'll just get different wierd chord names ...becuase it's not
going every other note anymore.
Keys are just pitch....
Anyways....In D MAJOR/B min....you can play any of the notes open
If you study the fretboard....
notice...you can BARR across the 5th..........10th and 12 fret...
In Bmin....the nuts is as if it's the 10 th fret...
You can do the same thing in E minor..
The nut will be as if it's at the 5th fret.
Use the same CONCEPT he's teaching...just do it in a different key.
I took lessons in middle school, but then did my own thing for years afterwards; I never learned music theory or what all of the chords or scales were - I just played what I felt and learned by ear. That said, after about a decade I plateaued and couldn't write anything creative anymore nor could I easily figure out other musicians' songs; after that, I started learning some basic scales and chords and how they're "supposed" to relate to one another and I've been steadily improving again. Point is, you don't need music theory to play guitar or even to make beautiful music, but it helps quite a lot and eventually you will need it if you want to keep improving or want to have a certain sound.
Only important for learning. Not for creating
I watched this video with a different account of mine almost a year ago, to get better at guitar playing. Being a singer and songwriter, THIS particular video helped me to not only turn old chords into something beautiful but also understand the possibilities of making magical sounds. Thank you paul!
This is beautiful! It sounds like if "Here Comes the Sun" and "Paranoid Android" had a child together
0:18 sounds like Wolves by Selina Gomez, such a cool riff! Great video as always Paul :)
My two fav guitar teachers
Exactly mate.
Yea.. even I was thinking the same!!
I live under a rock and I'm proud
It's almost exactly the same with a slight difference in the melody line
It looks damn easy. I have the same feeling when watching Olympic games...
Or Tennis, Snooker or any professional sport. When I try it......ain't so easy.
hahaha!!
Šimon Špaček lol 👍
Well this particular one is pretty easy though. I mean I can play it so it must be.
All of his information and knowledge is stored in his beard.
Maybe I'll start to grow a beard now
I laughed way more then I should have at this
It might even help in keeping a pick or two of a “2.0 thickness” maybe
Hard to have full hair and full beard at once. Most have one or the other
I absolutely love this. Learned it in about 5 minutes. And it sounds so amazing. Totally going to pinch it. Beautiful playing.
holy shit Paul your production quality has skyrocketed!
Fake video....you never would have found that pick
OML 😂
😂
Ha!…. So true!
Only if it fell in the sound hole... ;)
Rumor has it that the pick was a paid actor
Super cool and enjoyable as always. Love your playing and teaching. Merry Christmas y’all !
Paul, thanks for being so open with your writing and teaching.
I don't think you get a lot of appreciation on how you shoot your videos and edit. Love your set up and how you make it dramatic using lights and different camera perspective plus crisp sound 👍.
Agreed. The video production is classy too.
"So all 3 chords have the d in it"?? Sounds like a chorgy ;)
Comment of the week goes to..
Get out
I'll get my coat :)
Instructions unclear, D stuck in the chords !
I came to the comments for this joke. Thank you
Hey, paul! I don't know if you will see the comments from old videos like such, but I just want to thank you for making such inspiring and delightful content! I've just been playing guitar for 11 months and this video is how I discovered you and how it all started! This is the first-ever melody I learned on my guitar and I'm now climbing up in your next level playing course! Thank you so much for what you did!
Thank you for making this video! I've only watched it about 50 times now over the last four years for inspiration.
I loved these 'new to me' chord shapes and the pedal note concept. I started using modified versions of these chords as a fingerstyle exercise which turned into a song.
I appreciate your instruction.
You're a guitar genius! 👍
The new homely feel to the video gives off a really nice relaxed learning environment, Love the production quality keep it up
10:53 Hello Paul. I agree with you , my father immigrated to the US in 1932. And here we are 😊
Easy song to learn but to those who don't play guitar it is going to sound really impressive. Love it!
As I heard the sequence at 06:14 I had immediately "Here comes the sun" in my mind which brought back nice memories. Great Video and thanks for sharing!
That's what I heard! Couldn't place it. Thank you!
it is the same progression ;) I also heard it immediately!
Saaaame
me 2 !
Beat me to it bro...
I found this channel about 2 months ago and I can't stop playing since then, thanks for being such an inspiration
Always great videos Paul....thank you~ !
Perfectly fine chord progressions!! I love this melody parts as well 🥰
You make it look easy, Paul. Actually it takes finesse. Keep these lessons coming. You explain things beautifully.
I’m just gonna say... you have a great voice and the sound quality is honestly incredible!
Beautiful. Having a lot of fun playing around with this. Many thanks!
i'm in love with the sound of your guitar
I LEARNT THIS FROM YOUR VINTAGE COMPARISION VIDEO...I REWATCHED IT 100S OF TIMES......AND THEN I FIND THIS!
GREAT TUNE
I must say i'm so grateful for all your precious videos. Always a chill but instructive moment, for all kind of guitar levels. It's always a good match between music and technics. Thanks a lot Mr. Paul Davids :)
Creative. Intelligent. Humanistic. Both thumbs up Paul David's.
Love all these open string variations. I've been discovering so many new things with my short-cut capo and getting these open voicings. Enjoy your videos
immensely Paul.
Just B minor, D, and G..... YeP sUrE
Caleb T ?
@@aleksssss yes??
@Guardo ?
That is not the BM,D and G I know😂that's some advanced stuff.Or atleast its advanced imo.
He's playing the same notes in a different pattern or place 😉👉
Je kan heel mooi gitaar spelen, je hebt me zo veel geleerd. Bedankt voor al het plezier die ik al heb je gehad met mijn gitaar. Je bent echt een super toffe TH-camr, doe zo verder ❤.
What a great concept. I see it like keeping a steady bass thing going on then adding a bunch of chord tones and scale tones on the off beats featuring a lot of open strings to get a nice drone. Boy am I ever going to come up with cool sounds with this concept. Thanks for the idea.
Thank you very much for this lesson
9:28 sounds like music from Life is Strange
See: Jose Gonzalez
MannedCobra7 I for sure thought the same thing. But we are wrong really. Haha. It kinda sounds tho.
I was thinking about that the entire video
@@spencerkitchens9188 damn 3 months agoo i have the lucky to be in a jose gonzalez and the spring theory orchestra concert. It was somthing out of the world. Seriously incredible. Sad part is that you cant find any studio version of that type of concert :(
I thought the same thing haha
Brain:"humm, it looks pretty easy, I can play it"
Hand:"No, you can't!!"
You managed to do it by now? If you gave it up, sit down, and do it
This is just amazing.. Mind blowing.
Paul, YOU - ARE - THE - MAN!!! You sound amazing, and it gets me every time how easy and fresh you make things look like... BRAVO!
Picks grow legs, confirmed.
Where man drop pick is irrelevant to where man find pick.
Shock, that’s why I have more than one in one place so I know where my others are😂
illuminati!!
Yep that’s what my new excuse
Just put them between the strings so you won‘t spend more Time on looking for your pick than practicing.
Stuck at level 1, send help
Play it with the strumming pattern that he is using if your using your finger, and then aim for the third instead of the D and if you get a bit messy with it you’ll play both the D and the third
@The Swedish Girl keep playing even for 10 mins a day, it gets SO much easier before you know it!
Stuck at finding the pick...
Should be great a tab in the video or description...
I can do level 3 but not one ....
As an intermediate musician, this opened doors in my playing. thank you
It was one of my favourite tricks :)
I love the sound of your guitar. Is so crisp when you hit the strings
I actually have this same progression I made about 2 years-but what did really opened up my mind to some new possibilities. I love your videos. I have been watching you ever since I 2015 or 2016 when you had like 200k subs’ I am really happy to see your progress! You are a great teacher! Keep it up!
This is truly amazing. I wish I was more talented playing guitar.
That’s beautiful. Thank you. ❤😊
After 9 years playing with a crappy acoustic guitar I finally got a decent one (a pretty cool Sigma I falled in love with) and because of the sound improvement I have started noticing many vices and lackings on my way of playing. Your channel is really helping me clean my sound and improve my technique aswell as finally learning some music theory. Thank you so much, you'll have my like on every video I see! Keep the good work up! :D
Thanks a lot Paul !
sounds like
Selena Gomez, Marshmello - wolves xD
That’s what I was thinking, but it wasn’t cause I knew how to play that song on guitar. So I got rlly confused when he put it on his insta

U didn't get it did u?
I dun get it

It is kind of redundant saying a G Major chord is a major chord lol He's still a pretty good teacher. Really breaks this down well where I feel ppl who don't understand musical notation or music theory can semi understand & def play this beautiful riff!
Sound so soothing to hear.
I discovered this channel this month and it already took my playing to another level
