    The Soldier's "more classical shield" is actually the coat of arms of Switzerland :)

    The Soldier was made by both Victorinox and Wenger when they were separate companies. The sheild does not match either company’s logo. They were both makers for the Swiss gov because the country has both German (Wenger) and Flemish (Victorinox) roots.

    Thanks for your presentation. Your „soldier“ made me check my draw for my mine. There probably are some evolutionary differences. Compared to yours the scales are less pointy on the grips, the „can opener“ looks bit beefier. Instead of 3 pins holding it together mine has two plain ones but the 3rd is hollow (screw driver level). Also there is a some stamp just above the hole. The blade is marked as 86 and Victorinox on the other side. Since a kid I love these Victorinox SAKs - so handy and rocket quality.

    R. H. Forschner was the American seller of Victorinox made kitchen knives. They originally made scales for butchers, but worked out a deal in the '30s to sell Swiss made knifes to butcher's and chef's... That eventually turned into R. H. Forschner being the only distributor for all Victorinox knives/products in the US... In the early 2000s, Victorinox absorbed the name, and even tho R.H. Forschner technically is no longer, Victorinox still sells their commercial kitchen cutlery under the name Victorinox Forschner. I've read they did that, because the name was so well recognized, and they wanted customers to know they were still getting the same products they'd always been happy with.

    Hello sir , nice collection ;)
    I do believe the "pocket pal" is a "victorinox popular"
    I got a red one with old cross in my collection , and then I did my research I found out that a pocket pal has celidor scales.
    Then you get it with alox it changes the name to popular.
    Stay safe.

  • @miklospinter

    I like the Pocket Pal without a cross, an interesting piece, and not very common indeed.

    I thought the red Cadet was still standard in the US. At least DLT still has them, without a shop logo. But I'm not sure if they could still get more of them.

    What is the name of the weave you used to make the lanyard/fob on your Champagne Pioneer? That is beautiful.

    My rarest alox are the Cadet, Cadet Plus, and the Cadet micro farmer/Plus 2. Have all the colors offered by Swiss Bianco. see them rarely on ebay for $150-300. Grossly over priced. But they are so cool.

    I was totally shocked on how heavy the pioneer X was and I regret buying I myself I feel it is too heavy for pocket carry so my go too is the cadet and I wish I hope one day they they a cadet with sissors I wish they would get rid of the nail file and replace it with sissors perfect knife in my eyes if they do

    • @kstogie
      @kstogie ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The scissors take up a whole layer by themselves, whereas the nail file is on the same layer as the knife, so they could not just replace the nail file with the scissors. A Cadet X (cadet with scissors) would be fantastic, though.

    Victorinox Soldiers never came with a bail. The ones before '93 had a hollow rivet, and Vic made some with a keyring for the civilian market, but only (civilian) Wengers had a bail.

    • @thomassrensen2141
      @thomassrensen2141 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could get victorinox pioneers with bail.
      Got one in my collection.

    • @miklospinter
      @miklospinter 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thomassrensen2141 Are you sure it came from the factory that way? I rather assume it was added later. I've read everywhere that Vics never came with it.

  • @miklospinter
    @miklospinter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The 2019 was originally called "champagne gold", but they had to rename it to "gold" because they were not allowed legally to use the word "champagne". So they changed the color on the website - after the knives were already out with the paperwork saying "champagne gold" :D

    I'm 3 minutes into this video and you spent the entire time talking about the damn shield logo and didn't even mention how well the flashlight performed. Customers like you that focus so hard on aesthetics are why Victorinox has turned into a fashion brand
