@@DanHolmes-o9b The "horns" are modeled (or sampled) horn sounds, and I believe that in this case they are controlled by Harumo's tenor sax in real time. In some of their other shows you can see Harumo bringing FX in or out with a foot controller like guitarists often do. It seems the string sounds and sometimes the Rhodes sounds are being played by Toshitaka Shibata (guest playing keyboard). In most of their videos you can see a notebook computer on Mimi's left with a DAW running. It looks like Mimi has it set up to play sequences to add to to the arrangements, especially when they are just a trio.
I am falling down the TG rabbit hole and I never want out. I admit I have the most difficult time taking my eyes off Miss Imai as she is beyond stunning.
@@DanHolmes-o9b Juna was the original bassist in TGJ from 2018 to 2020. She left the group to spend time in the US. She's currently in Japan with The Jazz Avengers, Muses, and her own band. But she still appears with TGJ as a guest artist, usually playing alto sax, often with guest artist Harumo Imai on tenor as well. Good stuff. The bassist in this video is Rina Hoshino - she's been the bassist for almost 4 years. Drummer MiMi joined TGJ at the same time as Rina, replacing original drummer Yuriko Seki.
WOW! Truly gifted jazz-funk-groove masters, each and every one of them! Just close your eyes and listen!! The fact, that they are also beautiful is just a plus. I'm on the Tokyo Groove train enjoying the ride!!
First your foot starts tapping then your head starts bobbing and before you know it your bodies moving in ways you thought it couldn't these ladies are brutally gifted insanely talented and totally gifted the funk is magical Raw Pure and clean they play from deep within their hearts and souls it doesn't get much better
They accomplished the thing, but they are not that superb. I've seen many vids and they still make a lot of mistakes. I mean, yes they are good, that's why I watch their vids, but they play the basic the songs need to be well played.

I don't know who's who but they are very talented and beautiful I love the bass player and saxophone players face expressions they feel the music. Very talented group and beautiful
Thank you ladies! This is just what I needed today! love your sound. Love the kimonos too! you all look so pretty! Classy, groovy, beautiful music. So refreshing to listen to and watch! I am so happy you continue to create original music! I love all that you do, from NJ, USA!!
btw, Happy Birthday Rina-chan!!! @Rina Hoshino, beautiful song, new album coming?? I love how you write, what a great bass and rhythm and awesome overall sound, so good, bravo, more more more! Please! :)
These ladies are talented! I played B3 with 2 leslies back then, along side my tenor sax dude at the Merritt House in Baltimore. We always had a full, crazy house, but never had the full sound like these sweet, talented ladies. What if they did jazz concerts on tour with Yuja Wang! WOW!
Another example that there is crazy female musical talent in Japan Jam ladies the funk will drive you insane I love it every note every lick every riff
These ladies are so good. Loving that 70's Herbie Hancock groove, sprinkled i with the keys echoing the Doors, then Tangerine Dream for a few bars . - So much to ike about this song. - A lot to unpack!
Well, most has already been said about the technique/style, I just add I used to be a bassist in Jazz long ago, now when I want to get the funk blues mood, these girls are where I go...your still in my top 10, oh, and the kimonos are a gorgeous touch.
Fantastic changes in darkness and lightness. All in all quite a win when it comes to a mixture of something beefy and fluffy meringue. I imagine it's far more enjoyable to see live.
Very wonderful sound and colors bursts of sound! Your music is top notch! You blend together nicely and the solos are perfect! The kimonos are nice touch and you girls look great!🌹🎵🎶🎵🎶🎶🎶😎
You can tell that this song was written by a bassist without even knowing that this is Rina's song. Bass part is so prevalent and carefully crafted.
Isn't a 6 string bass just a thicc guitar though?
I hear a horn section. Where are they?

@@DanHolmes-o9byeah there's always a couple of invisible musicians in this band which is kind of lame, but they're still kinda good
So happy these girls are keeping the funk alive somewhere in the world today!
Just when i was just getting disillusioned with what’s out there today. Yes a funk revival

This song was written by Bass player Rina Hoshino. This song is on the EP"Tokyo Groove 2".
Harumo looks so good with black hair.😊❤

These women have such a cool, groovy sound.
Wonderful groove! Keyboardist gave me Deodato flashbacks.
I am falling down the TG rabbit hole and I never want out.

I'm late to this party, but after watching this I purchased Tokyo Groove 2.
Nice to hear a young fellow, enjoying old funk and the Japanese bass player is the best I’ve seen in 10 or15 years
Miss Kelli 💚🧜♀️🫵

That bass is a monster!
That 6 string bass hits the low notes.
She's getting down on the B string keeping it funky .
And it could be the same on a 5 String, but that’s a beautiful 6.
I love the 6 string bass!
Why?
