- Author and journalist Saba Naqvi speaks to Barkha Dutt in the 45th episode of our podcast, 'Inside Out with Barkha Dutt' about her book Saffron Storm- From Vajpayee to Modi.
Saba Naqvi is one of India's best-known journalists. The former political editor of Outlook magazine, she now writes columns in leading Indian dailies, including the Times of India, The Tribune, and several websites. Saba Naqvi has spent two decades covering the BJP and authored four books. In her very latest, 'The Saffron Storm', Naqvi tells the story of the party’s journey under two very different prime ministers drawn from the same ideological family. In 1998, tasked with covering the BJP, the author would attend the very modest swearing-in ceremony of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the courtyard of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. As quoted by one professor from AMU during the Wire's interview, "Muslims want the nation to be secular but they want to remain communal". Until and unless, this dilemma is solved, BJP will keep communalizing Hindus to counter it. You've to look at both sides of the coin. Today, Saudi Arabia is reforming its policies to liberalize Islam from its archaic practices whereas in India, any step taken by the Modi Government is seen as anti-Muslim policy.
Look, the problem here is Muslims work on street power. There are feudal lords who control the votes and the ordinary Muslim is never allowed to break from that shackle. Had Congress worked really towards the progress of common Muslims, BJP would have never found that loophole to work on. Congress just fed the Muslim feudal lords like the Waqf board, Muslim Personal Law Board and collected votes through these organizations. MPLB will never allow implementation of Common civil code because that will close their shop.

1) The BJP whips on communal hardliners and reinforces CMs to development and improving life quality of the masses and not adopting vindictive programs.
