Very informative 👍🏼 I bought a beetle a few weeks ago (2003 1.9 pd tdi) I serviced it myself last week, the air filter was in horrendous condition !!! I got no history with the car so got it cheap. I changed all the filters and oil. I was searching how to do cam belt. I think I’ll get this done by a proper technician, it’s beyond my capabilities Excellent video my friend
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair My brothers friend is a really good mechanic who’s ran his own garage for 10+ years now (he’s 40 years old) And hopefully he’ll do me “mates rates” haha All the best and thank you for your reply
Thank you so much! Very detailed. I might try it myself thanks to your video. I think the belt has been changed before at that mileage. The belt didn't look loose or cracked.
Hi bro, another enjoyable masterclass taking apart a engine to get to the timing belt. Can't wait for part two....it must take experience and memory to remember where everything goes back including nuts and bolts, what's your system? How do you do it? Andy uk
@@Nodrog269 yes! I put bolts and components in Ziploc bags to keep everything organized when I'm working on a unfamiliar engine. but I didn't use ziploc bags in this video because, I know this engine very well, I know where most bolts go on this engine!!
I have a great idea to help people and mechanics when stripping down an engine, to help where every bolt and part taken off would be noted in the order it was taken off to help the process of putting parts and bolts back in reverse order as a guide to help remember where parts and bolts went?
Having an issue getting the engine mount bracket off. Been moving the engine up and down slightly and trying to wiggle it out. Is there something I’m missing?
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair Definitely got all the bolts out and removed the actual mount. It’s the bracket itself I’m having issues with. It is loose and can be moved around. Just can’t seem to find the right angle to get it to get it out, keep getting stuck on the body or the engine. There’s a cut in the video at this point, wondering if I’m missing an adjustment you made?
I’m having trouble getting the bolts on the crank shaft to come out. My driver won’t turn them, my breaker bar won’t fit and if I use my regular socket wrench it turns the whole pulley. I’m concerned about using heat on it with the plastic nearby.
Hello friend hope all is well The crank holding tool seems not engage or sitting right on all the cog teeth of the crank sprocket am i wrong? Looks like it needs to be turned back just a little?
Well detailed video ❤️ thank you very much… I can definitely do this myself as you explained everything in detail. Thanks a lot Mr K 🙏🏾

@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair
Do you have a system to remember every bolt and part in order? To complete the job.

Have you ever changed the tensioner thread m8 m10 that goes into the head
Buddy Tom No! you don't have to change that!

@mcfarlanepeter look around it and make sure that you got all the bolts removed!

I was able to just work around the bracket. Had to loosen it and put it back on a couple times as needed.
How would I turn the camshaft if the timing belt broke ? I have the same engine
duli0 carrill0 make sure you have it checked for bent valves, you can turn the camshaft by turning the center bolt on the cam sprocket !
Great video!

So for anyone else with this problem: I hammered on a 12mm, 12 point socket into the heads of the bolts and was able to take them off.
@mcfarlanepeter Good job!
Very detailed guide

When should timing belt kit be replaced on 2008 new Volkswagen Beetle 2.5 ?
@orlandoreyes5189 you should replace it every 50 or 60k miles!
