My mother used to send me out on the front porch with a big paper bag from the grocery store and more beans and ears of corn then I can count! Once in awhile a friend would walk by and asked me what I was doing and then help me. I didn't think it was so great back then but nowadays I have wonderful memories as well.
Those were good times! My grandmother, mother and I would all have our bowls and beans and tea towels and sit on the front porch, snapping, stringing, and talking to the neighbors. When the garden smelled real good, we'd drag our chairs out there.
