I have several of these beautiful Peperomia Hope plants. They are fast growing for their robust and thick leaves. I water sparingly because the thick stem and leaves behave more like a succulent . I also top water these (for the same reason), and I use my fish tank water. They’re doing great, and experience growth all year round, including winter. It loves bright, indirect light but can tolerate being situated up to four feet back from the window. Very easy, underrated plant to grow!
I love this peperomia! I actually propagated it before I left uni for winter break, I accidentally left it out of water for a whole month!! I came back and put it in water and it’s rooting great. It’s a very resilient plant. 🌱
I love mine so much, it's an easy and beautiful peperomia and I also just love its name ! I also wanted to thank you Nick because you're the first plant youtuber I've ever followed, it was 2 years ago I think and you are the one who made me realize that it was actually possible to fill an apartment with plants : ) Have a great day too !
I fertilize my plants if there is continuous growth any time of the year. For my succulent plants, I use orchid fertilizer and find that my Hoya and Peperomia love it.
I have a care tip for cleaning Peperomia Hope's leaves. Use a fluffy makeup brush and water. Mine was dusty and I felt that paper towels were too rough and that I had an increased chancee of knocking off leaves. I think this is a good way to clean the plant. And I use a brush that has not been used for makeup.
You are amazing Nick. I love your videos. I live in Glasgow , Scotland . Cant wait till it leaps ! It’s cold here at the moment and mine seems to be very active. Thanks again
I’ve had my Hope for a few months, I think since February, and until quite recently it had like two tall….stalks/branches? standing straight up like 8+ inches each and some other smaller growth pieces. I couldn’t really imagine how it would end up trailing with how thick and….erect mine was, haha. And so fragile, bump it and a couple more leaves fall. I propagated one that has sprouted in its own container but the rest I’ve rooted and stuck back in with the mother plant to help EVENTUALLY fill her out. She’s kind of a slow grower….like while she’s pushed out a good amount of new growth, I don’t think she has made one fully matured leaf yet. Close, but not the fully mature, uniform shaped, flat succulent like leaf. And while I’ve put many fallen rooted leaves back in the soil to fill her out, and I know they’re alive and like rooted/growing in there (biggest clue being they turn black when they’ve not successfully rooted) none have sprouted or really started their own growth above ground yet. I know they will and have no reason not to, just get mildly annoyed not seeing progress lol but I know it’s doing work I don’t always see. Oh, and just pretty recently, my Hope has finally started leaning over like it is going to start trailing. Those two tall pieces are both totally sideways and even smaller growths and parts of the plant are leaning, and oddly all in the same direction that isn’t just toward the sun…. I’ve also potted it down to a smaller pot since I’ve had it…I picked it up from the grocery store and it was in a stupid big pot and I realized that wasn’t helping anything with its shallow roots and looking so sad and bare. It’s still a slightly bigger pot than this vid- like a 5 inch I think, but it seems and looks much better in that and seems to be doing better as far as loosing fewer leaves and being moved from plant stand or top of fridge to directly in windowsill. It’s just North Facing - best I’ve got in my apartment, but I am also in Florida so it is bright regardless and my many plants are thriving with that big North facing window. 😊 anyway enough rambling. I like Peperomias too. And I fertilize my Hope, and most of my plants really, when I think of it. Not every watering but not incredibly rarely. It doesn’t seem to have negative effects and I see new growth after doing so usually… 🤷♀️
Why haven’t the algorithms of TH-cam brought me to your channel sooner!? Love your videos! Just got my first peperomia hope on Saturday...fingers crossed it ends up looking like this! 😃
I hear that hoyas grow more in the winter as well. Nice peperomia hope you have there. That plant is on my wishlist along with other peperomia plants. Oh by the way I finally found a peperomia ruby cascade and it's doing well.
I love, love love listening to your videos and how enthusiastic you are sharing your tips with us. Thank you so much. I to have a pepperonis Hope and I too basically leave it alone with the exception of giving it H2O when the soil is dry.
I have 'Hope' new in my collection this year and it grew a lot, probably went from about 3" to about 14" in a few months....a favorite of mine! I feed it and it is happy under the grow light. It really is strong....never lost one leaf....it just thrives. I agree with you, it seems happiest to be left to dry out fairly thoroughly, I dig my finger as deep as it will go into its chunky media and I leave it alone if I can detect any moisture at all. I also keep mine in a terra cotta pot for the best airflow. Thanks for sharing yours!
I was shook when you said they actively grow in winter. I noticed all my other plants go dormant but my peperomia hope continue to grow. love this plant and I too have it in a south-facing window. #loveplants
My roomate brought one of these home for me thinking it was a hoya (I'm addicted to Hoyas). But it has more than satisfied my love of thick luscious leaves. It lives under a combo of southern window and some artificial light and has been a delight to have.
I love this pepperomia~ I went to the plant store and bought 6 of the two inch pots and planted them all together, I hope they grow as pretty as yours~ love the pattern of the leaves like little turtles
I adopted 8 of these yesterday. My neighbor was thinning out her collection and I ended up taking 8 peperomia and 8 Swedish ivy plants. 😂 they were going to be thrown out if someone didn’t take them!!! I was practically forced. 😂 now I have to learn how to care for it because I’ve never had a peperomia plant before.
I always learn so much from your videos, Nick! This was one of my top wishlist plants and I found a ton of 2 inch pots at my local nursery yesterday and bought a couple. I’m excited to watch them grow!
i am in minneapolis, a knitter, and a recently reinvigorated plant mom...i have a peperomia hope for the first time and want to better understand its behavior. i am not very tech savvy and don’t know how we could connect directly. can we connecdt?
Good morning, Nick! Yay! Pep Hope care video!!!! I received this at a swap at your shop! It’s dropping leaves like crazy (and a stem or two) in an east facing window, though I notice new growth points.... I am curious about what soil type you are using with her. I have her in a fast draining mix that is heavy on chunky orchid bark. I water her every two weeks or less often. When I first got her I was scared to water her and didn’t for two months! Her leaves are always in the taco formation! Help!
I might be wrong but I think this is a soil mix issue... also keep in mind that direct Sun would make dull and pale looking leaves on this particular Peperomia... I'd move the plant out of the pot and examine the roots, shake off all the orchid bark and substitute it with perlite. I'd also make cut offs from healthy parts and put them in water the next day, as a rescue plan if the mother plant dies... Good luck! I hope I'll be able to help!
This was my first online order plant and I was so happy to get it bc I couldn't find it anywhere in person! I found that in the beginning I kept getting curled leaves (when you google it ppl say it's due to lack of calcium) and I couldn't figure out why, but it stopped happening when I stopped letting it get so dry. I guess since it's winter this guy wanted more water than I expected, was really scared of overwatering it bc I seem to keep doing it to my hoyas
My peperomia was growing fast but the leaves started to curl quite a bit. I never thought that I was underwatering since everyone kept stating not to over water. I will start watering more frequently and see if that works. Just hope the roots don't rot.
I have been searching to find out what this plant is. I bout some very small shoots from the store and it just said succulents on the pot. This was last year. I’ve reported once as it grew out, and has kept on growing. The stems of mine are red though with green leaves. It’s also growing straight upwards and not trailing down yet. It’s a bit tall now. I also have a variegated one with red stem and white and green leaves. I’m excited about this as I’ve not seen any yet. I’ve not fertilised them as they are growing well (the variegated one is slower) and water when they are dry.
Mine is growing straight upwards too!! Is that normal? I wasn't sure if it's a Hope at all because it grew upwards. Have it near a south facing window.
Hi Nick - I recently purchased a P. Hope and I potted it in a no drainage terracotta pot😑. It sits in a west fast window but I’m 2nd guessing the pot it’s in. Do you have drainage in the pot your have yours in?
Over the course of two years I killed my first one when I moved it to a new location...it just never recovered and dropped all it's leaves. Now I pushed my luck and got a second after killing the first...thinking things would be different. Nope, leave drop, leaves turn brown not yellow. Idk maybe I will stop watering it for a while. This is certainly a plant I kill. I see you have it figured out. Albeit, I have two peace lilies and I think one or two other plants that you said you kill all the time and they thrive with me. I think it is just luck sometimes :) I'm going to put the pep hope under a grow light and see what happens...
I woke up this morning and one of the leads off of the plant is completely fallen off and attached to it are four leaves. It also looks like the stem is turning a dark color. Did I overwater it? I leave it right next to a window so I’m not sure if it’s a watering issue or a sunlight issue. I haven’t done anything to the soil and I’ve had the plant about a month.
I'm bad lol I fertilize year round! A more diluted concentration in the winter, but my plants pretty much all continue growing in the winter so I continue fertilizing. Fish emulsion ftw
Same here. But I'm even worse. I use a very diluted concentration year round and everything gets the same food. With the exception of orchids. They get a different kind of fert.
@@kyrad6543 yup, everything gets the same food here too. I don't keep orchids though so I don't really have to worry too much about it. The fish emulsion I find is very well rounded and makes everything pop like crazy.
Hi Nick! I really like that Peperomia! I'll have to watch for one. I recently bought a small Teardrop Peperomia and have, I think, a small Obtusifolia. I hope they do well. I've killed my share of Peperomias by over watering them. If my 2 survive, I want to try more. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Jessica, you might try, when watering, giving it a long soak. It is similar to a succulent, with thick, and I would think, water storing leaves. It doesn't need watering too often, but wants a big drink when it's really thirsty. That is how I care for all my succulents....I wait until their leaves fold up or get pruny, then I put them in a 'bowl bath', and soak them for 2 days. I fill the water up to cover the rootball, below the plant stem. For this one, I would start with a long soak of 2 hours, and see if it responds.
Did you figure out what to do? I’ve been bottom-watering mine until the top of the soil is moist, letting the soil dry in between waterings, but so far it’s still getting curled leaves
Thanks for the info Nick! I got a cutting from a garden center in Aug/Sept, literally took until mid Oct for roots. It's potted up in a little bowl, i just have a long stem but its pretty. Maybe it will take off this year!
@@gangstalkingvictim it’s doing great!! I’ve since transplanted it to a 4” pot. It’s not as big as his yet but it’s still alive maybe a couple inches long now. I’m really happy about it!! I don’t move it much and I just give it a little water once a week or every other week.
I Am SO Taken With This Pep!!! I Got It From ThePlantFarm On Etsy In A 2 Inch Pot AND It Was Already Trailing By At Least 4 Inches. IF I See THIS Around I Will Definitely Get One Or 2 As I See IT As An Exception To My Ban On Peperomias!!! ITs Still Growing Away In Its 2 Inch Pot And I Don't Plan On Graduating It To A 4 Inch Until Spring Time At Least. I'm Also Hoping The Ruby Cascade Can Be An EXCEPTION To My Ban!!!
IF You DON'T Live Close To ThePlantFarm Like Critter Girl...ThePlantFarm On Etsy Has Their Monstera Siltepecanas Back In Stock!!! Only 16.99 For A 4 Inch Pot Equal To A 6 Inch Pot In My Experience!!! As My Daddy Used To Say: Ya'll Better Have Some!!!
Hi, the leaves of my peperomia hope have all dropped off. I think I may have overwatered it or it didn't get enough sun but not sure :( The soil is looking rather dry and I want to see if I can bring it back but I'm not sure if it can be recovered? Any help would be great thank you
I bought mine not that long ago. Just like most people, it was love at first sight! But I have noticed that the leaves are falling off. What should I do to prevent further leaves from falling? Help!!
Same here! I bought mine in November (zone 6B in the U.S.). It’s a sweet little healthy plant in a 4” pot. I keep it in a south facing window about 2 1/2 feet away from the window, but do have a grow light since the days are shortened in winter. I can see new growth since I got it, but also leaves just drop off for no apparent reason. It’s in a plastic pot and I’m watering it from the bottom every 10 days or so (when the pot feels super light). Would love suggestions on how to prevent leaf loss. 🙏🏼
Mine is very happy, except some of the leaves are curled downwards. What is it trying to tell me? They seem permanently curled. Had mine for over a year. Lots of new leaves, propagation babies growing well, and most leaves close to the soil look perfect.
Love your videos! Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙌 I have a question on this one, does it like to be tight in its pot? I have a 2,5 inch one and nothing as grown since last december. She looks healthy.. i dont know what to Do 😮
Hi Nick I have mine in a south facing window as well, and she's doing great :D Yours looks be-au-ti-ful! haha Can I make a vídeo suggestion/request? about the variegation and how does that takes place in light and the connection between the "types" of leaves and watering. I'm always a bit unsure about those two topics. :/ I've been binge watching your vídeos and I find them very interesting and informative, as well as the beautiful plants you show and your awesome personality. ^_^
I keep killing peperomia hope and tradescantia. The latter doesn’t make since because everyone says it’s hard to kill 😭 but I’ve done it multiple times. Alocasia Polly too~ I can only keep all the scindapsis, pothos and philodendron alive.
thanks for the video, Nick! i just bought this last month and I'm not a good plant mama when it comes to peperomias. i've killed too many peperomia already. Hopefully I won't kill this peperomia this time around
I recently brought home a tiny peperomia hope and watered it after repotting it and I was letting it dry out as recommended. Two of the small leaves on the end popped off. ☹️ It was completely dry so I watered it, and then read that over watering can cause leaves to fall off. I am worried now because I just watered it a second time, but it was bone dry. Is it possible for them to lose leaves for other reasons? Maybe just adjusting to the new environment?
Yeah a lot of plants tend to take some time adjusting to their new homes and lose leaves along the way! It also can happen when you repot since the adjustment shocks them a little. I would give it some time and see where it goes, and just keep being careful not to overwater as you have already been doing :) then if it's still losing leaves at an alarming rate, adjust your watering/lighting!!
I'm still trying to figure out why some of the leaves curl. At first I thought it was a calcium/nutrient deficiency. I ruled it out. Now I'm beginning to suspect too much light might be causing the problem.
I have the same problem with mine. I'm certain that it's not a pest problem. It might be due to too much light but I'm beginning to suspect that it might be infrequent watering, ie. perhaps the leaves curl up when dry and won't uncurl once the damage is done.
Here's a SmartGarden Guide article I've read recently, hitting this particlular problem: Peperomia Leaves Curling is a bit more unusual, but is usually caused by bugs or nutrient deficiency. First inspect your plant to check for infestations, particularly mealy buys, which will appear as cotton white masses on the undersides of leaves or on the stems. If you find any bugs, you can use an insecticidal soap to try to eradicate these pests. Alternatively, if your leaves and stems look good, you should think about nutrients. Calcium deficiency is a known cause of curling leaves in peperomia plants. This can be caused by over-watering in an acidic growth medium such as peat. High acidity reduces the availability of calcium in the soil, preventing the plant from absorbing it. Alternatively, applying excessive nitrogen or phosphorus to your peperomia can prevent the plant from absorbing calcium and thus present with the characteristic leaf curling of calcium deficiency. I hope this helps a bit...
I struggle with propagation with this one. I can’t get roots in water or sphagnum moss, and barely get anything if I just pop nodes back into soil. tips?
One of the toughest plants to root in water, in my experience! I'm still experimenting. Had some luck when at least two or three nodes were under the water... Next thing to try: vine-like rooting - burying some parts of stem in soil without cutting the stem off...
I thought it was easier to propegate and I chopped off the new growth where, pulled off some leaves with petioles and placed some in the dirt and some in sphagnum and then I put the stalk in the soil the peperomia is already in and all they have done is rot... what am I doing wrong? What am I meant to do please help I feel so bad for chopping the growth off 😭😭😭
Need help identifying a plant. It is colored like a ruby cascade but it has thicker stems like Hope. The leaves are in groups of four. if anyone knows what I have please let me know.

Just got one today. Love it. Couldn't decide whether to let it vine or stake it. But when i saw yours my decision was made. I will let it hang.
I gave my mom one of these as a gift and she really likes it. It's so cute! I love the way yours is trailing so nicely.

Just in time for j-hopes birthday! What a cute plant!
My plant is in a Southwest facing window for the winter, and the leaves are curling 😟 I would appreciate any advice thanks!
I don't have this peperomia but someone in a fb plant group was asking about it so I shared your video :)
Nice video. I’m definitely going on the hunt for this plant. I love it and have a very bright room for it🧡🧡🧡🧡
Thanks for the info Nick! I got a cutting from a garden center in Aug/Sept, literally took until mid Oct for roots. It's potted up in a little bowl, i just have a long stem but its pretty. Maybe it will take off this year!
how is it now?
@@gangstalkingvictim it’s doing great!! I’ve since transplanted it to a 4” pot. It’s not as big as his yet but it’s still alive maybe a couple inches long now. I’m really happy about it!! I don’t move it much and I just give it a little water once a week or every other week.
I was gifted one that has pretty yellow leaves. I guess it was over watered. Hope I can save it!
EG TheBlackTruth - ThePlantFarm is just a few blocks from me...love their plants!
I just got mine last month, it is small but having so much growth coming up
Living in the Netherlands and guess what. Never saw that cross here! Now I need it ;-)
What soil mix should I use for this peperomia hope ?
This probably sounds like a weird question, but how to you water it with the tassel on the macrame hanger? Do you take it out each time?
Hi, the leaves of my peperomia hope have all dropped off. I think I may have overwatered it or it didn't get enough sun but not sure :( The soil is looking rather dry and I want to see if I can bring it back but I'm not sure if it can be recovered? Any help would be great thank you
Thanks for this, I have one of these and appreciate the tips!
😊🌱
Help mine has got leaves that are curling under, what can it be? It's growing well with lots of new growth. X
Would you advise that the "Hope" like a succulent?? in a terra cotta and root bound?? Thank you Nick for a reply...
Yes it's a succulent id say prpperomias over all
I bought mine not that long ago.
NICE plant!! Nice tutorial🤩🤩
Thank you! 😊🌱
I looooove my peperomia hope. My favorite peperomia
Love the info! Thank you!
She looks healthy.. i dont know what to Do 😮
One leaf of my peperomia hope has a heart shape. Is there a way to make the leaf heart shape?
just bought this one, it's on the north facing window-hope the location is good
Hey can you grow schefflera arboricola in water? Or aquarium I should say...? Just the roots of course...
Yes you can, but soon you'll have so many roots that you'll want to put it in soil.
Hi Nick
I have mine in a south facing window as well, and she's doing great :D Yours looks be-au-ti-ful! haha
Can I make a vídeo suggestion/request? about the variegation and how does that takes place in light and the connection between the "types" of leaves and watering. I'm always a bit unsure about those two topics. :/
I've been binge watching your vídeos and I find them very interesting and informative, as well as the beautiful plants you show and your awesome personality.
Oh I needed this video mine took a turn for the worst after I repotted it 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Yikes! Hopefully it’s doing better!
Nick Pileggi yes! Luckily it had 4 plants & 1 is striving 😅
No dislikes. Love.
You have any ideas why some of my leaves are curling
Just bought one 😁
I just repotted and loaded with water. I put it outside for a bit this morning to get a bit dryer. Is that okay?
In my experience, too much light would cause yellow and pale leaves. Curling sounds more like spider mites, no?
I have the same problem with mine. I'm certain that it's not a pest problem. It might be due to too much light but I'm beginning to suspect that it might be infrequent watering, ie. perhaps the leaves curl up when dry and won't uncurl once the damage is done.
Following, I have the same issue!
Here's a SmartGarden Guide article I've read recently, hitting this particlular problem: Peperomia Leaves Curling is a bit more unusual, but is usually caused by bugs or nutrient deficiency. First inspect your plant to check for infestations, particularly mealy buys, which will appear as cotton white masses on the undersides
of leaves or on the stems. If you find any bugs, you can use an insecticidal soap to try to eradicate these
pests.
Alternatively, if your leaves and stems look good, you should think about nutrients. Calcium deficiency is a
known cause of curling leaves in peperomia plants. This can be caused by over-watering in an acidic growth
medium such as peat. High acidity reduces the availability of calcium in the soil, preventing the plant from
absorbing it.
Alternatively, applying excessive nitrogen or phosphorus to your peperomia can prevent the plant from
absorbing calcium and thus present with the characteristic leaf curling of calcium deficiency.
I hope this helps a bit...
@@StefanNaydenov Thank You!
My peperomia hope had no hope... I killed it 😂
I struggle with propagation with this one.
Just got one of these today for £2.99 ❤
Have you had any issues with curling leaves? I know it’s a common issue with this particular plant but no one have answer! :(
I’m having this issue too! Any luck finding out what causes it / what to do?
Sometimes the leaves to this plant curl and I have no idea why :(
Thanks nick!
Currently looking for one.
I see it a lot in terrarium plant selections
💚💚💚
I thought it was easier to propegate and I chopped off the new growth where, pulled off some leaves with petioles and placed some in the dirt and some in sphagnum and then I put the stalk in the soil the peperomia is already in and all they have done is rot... what am I doing wrong? What am I meant to do please help I feel so bad for chopping the growth off 😭😭😭
My Peperomia died in winter 😭. I had like one left by spring
I bought my Hope with 3 leaves, all these months later, nadda. She has done nothing. It's a bit frustrating honestly.
Need help identifying a plant. It is colored like a ruby cascade but it has thicker stems like Hope. The leaves are in groups of four. if anyone knows what I have please let me know.
👏🌷🌲جميل شكرا👏🌷
Mine is growing like a weed. Four foot in six months.
💯👍🏻❤️🙏
I have a love hate realtionship with this plant. I almost killed it twice
I killed mine lol
Despite all my best efforts, mine died a slow, painful death.
Poor poor thing...
