    Great informative video , Thankyou. I’m in NSW .. I brought a very small plant of this for $20 sight unseen. It’s proved to be a very fragile plant and I now have it on my back porch plant shelves , facing west with a grey coloured shade cloth over the opening part of the porch. I just leave it alone and check on it every other day. It obviously is not a fan of too much water and you’ve explained why. I did pay way too much but on looking elsewhere they appear to be expensive anyway. Your video has given me some insight to its care. I was treating it like my other string of plants but noooo , I’ll look up your other videos and I’ve liked and subscribed .

    Succulents don't tend to like fertilizers because they grow in areas where the soil is not super high in nutrients so they really don't need the extra nutrients in their soil.

    I have a 2 inch trail of tiny turtles propogating in spagnum, a gift from a new plant friend ❤ I've learned the hard way about overwatering (SOP 😶). Recently I heard that you should "water the plant, not the pot", meaning if you have a little plant in a bigger pot - give enough water for the plant; there's no need to saturate the pot. Watering from the top makes sense too as I imagine it's fairly shallow rooted? Peperomia prostrata. That's fun to say! My new friend also gave me lots of Peperomia leaf cuttings; fingers crossed the prop box keeps them happy over a chilly NZ winter 😊

    • @MyFellowFoliage
      @MyFellowFoliage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Michelle! Totally, I agree with your tips. With these guys they don't mind getting wet as long as they don't stay wet for a prolonged period of time. Air flow is key! And you're right, I don't saturate the soil of this plant at all! Hope they're doing okay in the cooler temps over in NZ!

I'd just keep doing what I'm doing but the vines seem very fragile and im always scared of pulling off a leaf or a vine by accident even though I'm being gentle. just got one of these from my friend cause she had to get rid of a few plants that she couldn't keep caring for

    • @MyFellowFoliage
      @MyFellowFoliage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a fair question! Leaves won't regrow along the bare vines but you can hide it behind fuller vines if you don't like the look of it. I left the bare vines and it continues to grow longer and fill out lower down :) Hope that helps

    I have recently discovered that a good number of my plants have thrips 😞. This pest is new to me and I spent a good deal of my evening washing leaves and treating all of my plants with insecticidal soap.
    The only plant I have not treated is my string of turtles which is especially sentimental to me. I can not see any thrips on it but feel like I should treat it just to be safe. I am afraid to put any product on it.
    Has anyone successfully treated a string of turtles? Any recommendations on safe products that will keep my plant happy and healthy?

    In Kentucky, it’s still very hard to find. Payed $17 for a 2.5 inch pot at a gift shop in DC. (The United States Botanical Gardens)

      It was trailing though. Not by much, but past the pot. Also got very gated SOH.

    I just came from another you tube video that seems to contradict everything in this one🥺 following her advice, I placed my teeny tiny 2 inch pot of turtles ( which has not been doing great) into a plastic box with holes and spag moss... like an empty strawberry container from the grocery store. I don't think it's having issues with root rot but there's definitely no improvement. Mine just does not seem to want to grow.

    Ok for real though, how do you personally *know* when it needs water? This one and string of pears tell me nothing. They're so delicate and dense, rooting around in the leaves feels wrong. I hate doing it 😬😬😬 have you or anyone here used the meter sticks? Are they worth it?
    Also could you please tell me if your bleached leaves darkened back up once it was in the right spot?

    • @MyFellowFoliage
      @MyFellowFoliage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ok personally, I can tell they need a water by checking the tips. When they get dry or look like they're drying out, I give it a drink. But I don't let it get to that stage by giving it a small amount every week or so. And because it's getting some air circulation it really doesn't matter if it's a little bit more than what they need because it'll evaporate easily since it's a small amount. If you tend to completely saturate the plant and the soil, I'd say the best way to tell is when the top leaves get squishy and not firm like a button anymore.

    • @MyFellowFoliage
      @MyFellowFoliage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once the leaves fade I don't think they darken back up. The new leaves will be dark though :)

    • @MyFellowFoliage
      @MyFellowFoliage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've also used meter sticks and sustees but I prefer just checking on the plant and looking for signs of dehydration (as mentioned above). Just that the sticks take the guess work out of it!

      @@MyFellowFoliage Thank you so much! Your channel has told me two things I couldn't find anywhere else.
