In regards to anime: The definition of filler is anything that isn't canon to the source material. So it's only natural that Warship Island didn't progress the story at all. It's not in the main story in the first place.
The Calm belts are canon. As they are going to the reverse mountain, they accidentally get stuck on the calm belts after they see MASSIVE sea kings that see them as soooo small that don't even care, they get thrown to the normal sea and go to reverse mountain normally.
Great video mate. Regarding filler, One Piece has a few really good ones but I'm still divided on them because they hurt the overall pacing. This one is a perfect example. After the entire East Blue Saga was a ramping-up hype machine for the Grand Line, it's really jarring to cut into an unrelated story just as they finish Loguetown and head there. In the manga (or in the anime if you skip filler) it's a monumental set of chapters that really feel like going into a different world.
It's not just filler arcs. One Piece is so story-driven that we see more canon content simply get padded out. This, in my view, is more damaging for the pacing than adding in whole story arcs.

Plus, knowing what lies ahead & having time to plan it oit would allow the storyboarders to place a whole fight into a single episode rather than keep lockstep with the mamga's beats. It'll never happen. One Piece makes the majority of it's income from manga sales. Not even merchandizing comes close, let alone digital media sales. Toei knows this, and so makes the anime with the understanding that it's advertising for the manga.

Back in the day Logia's were totally overpowered and unbeatable, unless you discovered their weakness (Sand < water, Lightning < rubber, etc...). I used to spend time wondering what Smoker's weak point was. I kind of figured that wind might counter Smoker, and thought that maybe Dragon had some sort of wind/weather devil fruit power.
Btw, those duels of Sanji and Usopp are fillers. Sadly, the one where Luffy goes to the same bar as Roger is also filler. Loguetown is also only 4 chapters in the manga.
i know this comment is old but ehh these episodes are anime canon, so unlike normal filler anime canon episodes are still important to the story and recognized by Oda everypart of Lougetown that wasnt in the manga only wasnt in it cause Oda wanted them to get to the Grand Line at a specific Chapter Number but he still had all those Ideas for it which where cut and put in the anime
(spoilers until Ennies Lobby) That's the problem with the word filler. It's a an umbrella term, it includes non-canon and canon filler... I generally don't like filler, but One Piece does a damn great job of foreshadowing in filler content. For example, on Warship island, we see the first time an example of observation haki or the voice of all things with the subtle detail that luffy understands the dragon. Another example is the One Piece movie before Ennies Lobby was released -- Luffy uses Gear 2nd for the first time right before reaching Water 7 but he doesn't get exactly what he did.

It's only really recommended once they start adapting less than a chapter per episode and, even then, if you're binging then the pacing problems aren't nearly as frustrating. 28:25 As others have stated, the Calm Belt is one of the only canon things in this arc. 32:50 A bit of a plot hole here, due to this arc being filler. Zoro claims to be able to "cut anything". Ignore this line. Otherwise you may be very confused in the future. 35:20 You must have missed the line, but Apis DOES have a Devil Fruit. She has the Hiso Hiso no Mi, or Whisper Whisper Fruit. It allows her to hear the thoughts or "whispers" of animals. She demonstrates this ability near the beginning of the arc, where she receives a warning from some seagulls about a huge gust of wind approaching. I think it was just before they entered the Calm Belt. 36:00 Reverse Mountain is the other canon portion of this arc, aside from the murder of Eric. 37:30 You talk about your view of what "filler" is. And while your definition ("Not progressing the main story") is definitely a part of this, the main way the One Piece community uses it is "Anything not in the original manga that was added so that the anime doesn't overtake the source material."

Daddy Masterson isn't in the manga but Oda ( the author ) did say that he wanted to introduce him in the manga but didn't because he wanted the Straw Hats to enter the Grand Line at chapter 100 . Sanji's side story was anime original , in the manga he just buys the Elephant fish he won at the competition . The Gold Roger bar and Smoker's backstory are 100 % anime original . And the Warship Island arc is 100% anime original .

The calm belt felt underutilized because it isn't really part of the filler - this visit happens in the manga too (without Apis of course) and simply introduces this place.
Im happy that you will watch the filler bc the g8 filler arc is amazing but there is like 2 or 3 filler arc in the Middle of big canon arc that disruot the Flow so I dont know if I could recomend watching them all
I hope you will keep watching and ranking the filler arcs. Overall they are not as crazy long or many as other series fillers but maybe keep them separate from actual arcs in the rankings?

Not really? Oda did say a crew from Wano sailed to the East Blue 55 years ago. (Volume 96 SBS) Eventually, a samurai settled down, becoming Kuina's Grandfather. Whose to say he didn't have another grandchild? (Making her Kuina's cousin perhaps)
i would recommend skipping filler episodes. not only to save you time but also because you were theorizing the bounty posters in rauls bar but that whole bit is filler. or at least make sure you know when the episode is filler. honestly the filler is not that bad in one piece. the bad is the long reaction shots and going over things we already know. and useless flashbacks are pretty annoying too. also i highly recommend watching the G-8 filler arc (its after the the third big saga) G-8 is one of the best filler arcs of any anime ever lol. anyways i enjoy the vids just giving my two cents.

So he wouldn’t know what we already know in the current manga For example: if he knew about the voice of all things he’d say that the girl at 35:21 has the voice of all things as well as Luffy but instead he uses that evidence as dragons being related to devil fruits

I watched the Warship Island arc as well without realizing it was filler and decently enjoyed it. But at the same time, I didn’t think it was great like the others too so I agree with your rankings!

Ahhh I love the way you review the series! Can't wait to see how you go through everything and see what you think of the most recent episodes. I did the same as you and watched the series via anime, but once I caught up I needed more and started the manga. Definitely an entirely different experience for whenever you have time to read (its actually faster to get through due to the amount of filler that isn't there, highly recommend when youre ready)
I definitely plan on reading through the manga sometime later in this series, not entirely sure when yet, but I can say for sure that there will be a "Reading OP for the first time" spin-off series 😄
One Pace's goal is to make the show as close to the manga as possible. That means removing extra reaction shots, long panning shots, etc. I can understand if you do not want to watch that version. I instead humbly suggest that you do what all other reviewers do and skip all of the filler arc epsisodes during a watch-through of the origional show. You can do whatever you want with your reviews since they are yours, but I speak in your and the subscriber's best intrest when I ask that you do not review any filler besides the G-8 arc. 1. We read/watch One Piece cuz it's good, but the filler arcs are not nearly as good (exept for G-8 arc), so what's the point? Warship island isn't horrible, but most of the filler arcs are so bad that it's insulting, and they would make your great reviews a clown show. 2. Filler arcs are not written by Eiichiro Oda and have nothing to do with the main story that we all love, and as a result mess stuff up. For example Logue-Town is supposed to be the arc that neatly ties up the East Blue saga as we say good bye, and a smooth way to transition into the hype entrance of the Grand Line. Everyone puts their feet climactically onto the barrel and declares the dream they wish to acomplish in the Grand Line right before they finally enter the dangerous sea of oppertunity. This moment is akwardly messed up by the anti-climactic Warship Island arc which is sandwiched between and has zero connection to anything. Filler Arcs do not progress the plot and are never again mentioned. 3. Knowing beforehand that filler-arcs are additions made for pacing and revenue rather than entertainment automatically makes me not want to watch them. The only filler-arc which builds on the origional story with love and care is the G-8 arc, which I HIGHLY suggest you watch. Look at the OP Wiki for arc episode breakdowns so you know which episodes to skip. If you want to purposely watch the filler arcs just to make fun of them them and review the overall quality of the anime adaptation, I am fine by that. But keep in mind that no one reccomended you One Piece with the filler in mind. There is a reason no one in the One Piece community likes the filler, and there is a reason all other One Piece anime reviewers avoid it (except for the G-8 arc, even manga revievers go out of their way to watch this arc in the anime). I guarentee that the filler arcs will sour your experience with One Piece and our experience with your reviews. I hope this comes across as a simple suggestion, I love your reviews and I'm with you for the whole journey regardless of your decision!
I actually think filler in canon arcs (like the Loguetown ones) are great because they give us a bit of a breather, some time to just enjoy the character interactions and really make their friendships and everyday lives believable. If it's just ALL action ALL the time, that gets rather exhausting. Also, they are often based on real manga events or cover stories that just get expanded into more (like Sanji's elephant tuna and Usopp getting new glasses). That said, while I think it's great you aren't skipping these, I do hope you find a way to keep track of what is canon and what is filler, because regardless of how good some of them are and how well they smooth out the pacing or reinforce certain ideas, in the end, there isn't much of a point to theorizing deeply about them because they aren't part of the original story and will therefore NEVER have proper consequences or recurring appearances or whatnot.
the buggy adventure stuff was the first cover story, most arent covered in the anime, however i recommend you look all of the cover stories up because they can add alot to the series
What you saw is just the introduction to the Calm Belt. It's the only canon part of the episode you watched. It IS a significant part of the Grandline. So it will come up again.
I am also watching for the first time! I'm deciding to skip the filler arc so I hadn't watched the final arc but personally I agree Arlong park is the probably the best! Or at least my favourite and personally I prefer louge town over baratie arc aside from that tho I agree a lot with the tierlisg! I'll def continue watching this series as I watch the show great videos!!!
Welcome aboard! 🏴☠️ Yeah, in retrospect, most of the fillers are _fun_ ,but not really anything to write home about. The only stand-out so far for me was G8, which, while still obviously falling into the filler trap of not really mattering in the grand scheme of things, is a very fun little side adventure - so I do recommend checking that one out!
I know this video is old, but I hope you looked up the cover stories (like Buggy's side adventure) because they stopped animating them after the first 2, they are done so well in the manga and happen alongside the current plot without getting in the way or interrupting. For example, if you pay attention to the Buggy cover story you'll realize that he teams up with Alvida, which adds background context to them showing up to fight Luffy in Loguetown.
In anime terms, filler is anime only material that is not a part of the original manga story, which is why it doesn't progress the story. At the end of the filler the story has to return to the status quo and continue the original story.
Sometimes filler does advance the story though. Boruto anime has like 0 filler because the anime is canon. G-8 yanked some stuff from Long Ring Long Land so it advances the plot also.
You had some pretty neat ideas as far as what you thought might happen later in the series. Also when Smoker first met the real Luffy he didn't realize who he was.
Smokers introduction is super important because every marine up to this point was a giant douche nozzle and smoker is shown looking like a huge badass his design could literally play out as a badguy marine just like the Wheasle and Axehand but he's immediately shown nice to the little girl and a marine just vent on justice
(no spoilers) As someone who is up to date on the manga and anime watching someone see the show for the first time just makes me grin, it's also made me notice a crazy amount of foreshadowing even as far as foreshadowing to the latest manga chapter. I look forward to seeing the reactions from another perspective on so many things such as reactions to revelations about Dragon.
in loguetown,the subplot with Usopp doesn't fit because its anime filler. its not in the manga. In manga he just buys the goggles. Also there is a chapter made by the mangaka of shokugeki no soma with sanji being badass and its AWESOME. It came out with theo 1000th chapter i think.
Actually the ussop subplot was actually supposed to be in the manga but it was cut out because oda wanted them to leave Logue town by chapter 100. The characters and flashback with yassop was planned.
Great review, I love it! Two things came to my mind: You were saying "symbology" while you meant "symbolism"? Or I misheard it? And also your thoughts on filler arc are exactly why I hate fillers. Not because they are often bad. On contrary, the better the filler is, the worse the case. It's because they are written not by original author, thus they introduce terrible and misleading continuity errors! Characters easily manage things they will struggle in future (or the other way), world is inconsistent (there are future events when for example characters from filler should react, appear, take action but they won't, problems they would solve but they are not even mentioned). It's so disappointing, taking into consideration how interconnecting world Oda is building in the original story. Fillers just mess with it and with the viewer, who is just forced to disregard major reveals cause in the end they simply do not matter at all.
Fun Fact about Daddy Masterson! Oda had originally wanted to include him in the manga itself but his whole thing was cut because it'd mean they would reach chapter 100 before reaching the grand line, and Oda wanted to make sure that happened Also in the original japanese language they outright say what her devil fruit power is, it's the Hiso Hiso (whisper whisper) fruit, which lets her talk to animals
Nothing against watching the fillers. But you should remember that they aren't cannon, so it's not worth theorizing about it. (Specially since some even contradict canon arcs, for example, if in the future the crew were to see dragons, they wouldn't recall the Warship Island since in the actual story those events never happened). The only actually good filler arc is G8. Anyway I know you said you wouldn't use One Pace but I believe that it's a must at the second half of the anime. I'd recommend you to start using at the Thriller Bark Arc. And maybe on Long Ring Long Island too, since half of the arc is non-cannon, and screws the pace of the arc (and also have some moments that go against the characters development)
Loguetowm, or Roguetown as it was called in the 4kids dub, is an arc I have a soft spot for; as it was first arc I ever watched. And it was the Sanji episode in particular, which was amazing in all version

Zoro cuts steel chains to save the dragon here but a few episodes later he's having to overcome his inability to cut steel against mr 1, yeah they're fun but they're a detriment if they add inconsistencies to the show.
That two episodes of buggy is canon it was from cover page story. i personally want see more of it get animated since there was only 6~7 that's get it. yeah some of it was out dated by a decade or so but still pretty good to see trough. And smoker hobby was pottery and play poker so yeah there's that.
well, i tried watching naruto and that has awful lots and awfully obvious fillers. so one piece fillers doesn't sound like a filler at all. the warship island, to be honest, is the only one that truly seems like a filler. so despite seeing people say don't watch the filler, i'd prolly would. after all, i dived in to this behemoth of a series for the adventure. every episode is one. i'm also very tempted to read the manga, but i'd prolly wait until i can afford to buy the books. and then i'll relive the adventure. i like your videos about one piece and how the sincerity of you enjoying the series shows. and i share some sentiments about it as well, i just finished alabasta saga so you're mostly likely see me commenting on your alabasta vids too. hahaha
Warship Island, the first full filler, as you progress youll notice fillers allways do something, lets see if you notice it, also most of Rouge Town side stories are also filler, only Zoros and the small encounter of Smoker and Luffy are canon notice of Buggys big adventure is one of the first cover stories, in the begining of the manga chapters, he put small mini arcs like this one, but unfortunatly, only very few have been animated, when they actually inform continuity like this one showed that matters in the story about Tashigui... there are theories... and some is thanks to Odas SBS in the mangas... but lets say it can be traced to One Piece current events notice about Warship Island, the Calm Belt is the only canon part in it, minus Apis and the entrance to the Grand Line minus okama, and those arent Sea Monsters, they are Sea Kings or Neptunians depending on which translation you want, as for what role the Calm Belt takes, youll know soon enough
Buggys little arc is something that's done in the manga but they stopped adaptating, on each chapters first page there is a panel dedicated to a side story. These little story's about characters going on their own little adventures can take ages to finish. There's a character that dies but is revealed to be alive in the front page stories that I had no idea about until recently. I wish they'd adapt them all because sometimes past characters just kind of show up without an explanation because it was explained there
The amount of plot canon in Warship island is actually insane - - Calm belts introduced - Luffy being able to hear ryu being a foreshadow of the voice of all things - Millenial dragons basically rhymes with celestial dragons - The corruption of the marines is put further on display in this arc - Eric's devil fruit is basically a foreshadow to both Mihawk's & Zoro's future attacks which are both just air slashes

The whole warship island arc and some scenes from loguetown arc are non canon (filler). for futher information, after every episode you can check one piece wiki cuz there is explained what particular scenes/events are non-canon.
The Gold Roger Bar part is not canon so don't expect the Wanted Posters to be that relevant. Same for Usopp's duel. One Piece has a lot of filler in between canon material so be vary to not take the non-canon too seriously as it sometimes creates plot holes and even straight up contradict the story.

I'm glad someone is doing a 1st time ANIME review rather than manga! I grew up only watching the anime, so hearing your thought on it has been amazing!
The calm belt felt underutilized because it isn't really part of the filler - this visit happens in the manga too (without Apis of course) and simply introduces this place.
This s one of the reasons I feel he should avoid the filler. It's just gonna cause confusion.
Im happy that you will watch the filler bc the g8 filler arc is amazing but there is like 2 or 3 filler arc in the Middle of big canon arc that disruot the Flow so I dont know if I could recomend watching them all

i would recommend skipping filler episodes. not only to save you time but also because you were theorizing the bounty posters in rauls bar but that whole bit is filler. or at least make sure you know when the episode is filler. honestly the filler is not that bad in one piece. the bad is the long reaction shots and going over things we already know. and useless flashbacks are pretty annoying too.
also i highly recommend watching the G-8 filler arc (its after the the third big saga) G-8 is one of the best filler arcs of any anime ever lol. anyways i enjoy the vids just giving my two cents.

@@Tyreker I agree. In my opinion, the fillers is a part of what makes the one piece anime great. It expands on stuff the manga couldn't and it brings new stories that one piece fans who've exhausted the manga material can enjoy as a novel :D

I watched the Warship Island arc as well without realizing it was filler and decently enjoyed it. But at the same time, I didn’t think it was great like the others too so I agree with your rankings!

And they never get back to the calm belt again (I mean okay Amazon Lily was on the Calm Belt, but the Calm Belt in itself wasn't really a thing in the arc, I rather expected an adventure trying to get through/surviving the Calm Belt)
Ahhh I love the way you review the series! Can't wait to see how you go through everything and see what you think of the most recent episodes. I did the same as you and watched the series via anime, but once I caught up I needed more and started the manga. Definitely an entirely different experience for whenever you have time to read (its actually faster to get through due to the amount of filler that isn't there, highly recommend when youre ready)
I definitely plan on reading through the manga sometime later in this series, not entirely sure when yet, but I can say for sure that there will be a "Reading OP for the first time" spin-off series 😄

One Pace's goal is to make the show as close to the manga as possible. That means removing extra reaction shots, long panning shots, etc. I can understand if you do not want to watch that version. I instead humbly suggest that you do what all other reviewers do and skip all of the filler arc epsisodes during a watch-through of the origional show. You can do whatever you want with your reviews since they are yours, but I speak in your and the subscriber's best intrest when I ask that you do not review any filler besides the G-8 arc.
1. We read/watch One Piece cuz it's good, but the filler arcs are not nearly as good (exept for G-8 arc), so what's the point? Warship island isn't horrible, but most of the filler arcs are so bad that it's insulting, and they would make your great reviews a clown show.
2. Filler arcs are not written by Eiichiro Oda and have nothing to do with the main story that we all love, and as a result mess stuff up. For example Logue-Town is supposed to be the arc that neatly ties up the East Blue saga as we say good bye, and a smooth way to transition into the hype entrance of the Grand Line. Everyone puts their feet climactically onto the barrel and declares the dream they wish to acomplish in the Grand Line right before they finally enter the dangerous sea of oppertunity. This moment is akwardly messed up by the anti-climactic Warship Island arc which is sandwiched between and has zero connection to anything. Filler Arcs do not progress the plot and are never again mentioned.
3. Knowing beforehand that filler-arcs are additions made for pacing and revenue rather than entertainment automatically makes me not want to watch them. The only filler-arc which builds on the origional story with love and care is the G-8 arc, which I HIGHLY suggest you watch. Look at the OP Wiki for arc episode breakdowns so you know which episodes to skip.
If you want to purposely watch the filler arcs just to make fun of them them and review the overall quality of the anime adaptation, I am fine by that. But keep in mind that no one reccomended you One Piece with the filler in mind. There is a reason no one in the One Piece community likes the filler, and there is a reason all other One Piece anime reviewers avoid it (except for the G-8 arc, even manga revievers go out of their way to watch this arc in the anime). I guarentee that the filler arcs will sour your experience with One Piece and our experience with your reviews.
I hope this comes across as a simple suggestion, I love your reviews and I'm with you for the whole journey regardless of your decision!

I actually think filler in canon arcs (like the Loguetown ones) are great because they give us a bit of a breather, some time to just enjoy the character interactions and really make their friendships and everyday lives believable. If it's just ALL action ALL the time, that gets rather exhausting. Also, they are often based on real manga events or cover stories that just get expanded into more (like Sanji's elephant tuna and Usopp getting new glasses).
That said, while I think it's great you aren't skipping these, I do hope you find a way to keep track of what is canon and what is filler, because regardless of how good some of them are and how well they smooth out the pacing or reinforce certain ideas, in the end, there isn't much of a point to theorizing deeply about them because they aren't part of the original story and will therefore NEVER have proper consequences or recurring appearances or whatnot.
the buggy adventure stuff was the first cover story, most arent covered in the anime, however i recommend you look all of the cover stories up because they can add alot to the series
What you saw is just the introduction to the Calm Belt. It's the only canon part of the episode you watched. It IS a significant part of the Grandline. So it will come up again.

I am also watching for the first time! I'm deciding to skip the filler arc so I hadn't watched the final arc but personally I agree Arlong park is the probably the best! Or at least my favourite and personally I prefer louge town over baratie arc aside from that tho I agree a lot with the tierlisg! Yeah, in retrospect, most of the fillers are _fun_ ,but not really anything to write home about. The only stand-out so far for me was G8, which, while still obviously falling into the filler trap of not really mattering in the grand scheme of things, is a very fun little side adventure - so I do recommend checking that one out!

I know this video is old, but I hope you looked up the cover stories (like Buggy's side adventure) because they stopped animating them after the first 2, they are done so well in the manga and happen alongside the current plot without getting in the way or interrupting. For example, if you pay attention to the Buggy cover story you'll realize that he teams up with Alvida, which adds background context to them showing up to fight Luffy in Loguetown.
In anime terms, filler is anime only material that is not a part of the original manga story, which is why it doesn't progress the story.
At the end of the filler the story has to return to the status quo and continue the original story.
Sometimes filler does advance the story though. Boruto anime has like 0 filler because the anime is canon. G-8 yanked some stuff from Long Ring Long Land so it advances the plot also.
You had some pretty neat ideas as far as what you thought might happen later in the series.
Also when Smoker first met the real Luffy he didn't realize who he was.
Smokers introduction is super important because every marine up to this point was a giant douche nozzle and smoker is shown looking like a huge badass his design could literally play out as a badguy marine just like the Wheasle and Axehand but he's immediately shown nice to the little girl and a marine just vent on justice
(no spoilers) As someone who is up to date on the manga and anime watching someone see the show for the first time just makes me grin, it's also made me notice a crazy amount of foreshadowing even as far as foreshadowing to the latest manga chapter. I look forward to seeing the reactions from another perspective on so many things such as reactions to revelations about Dragon.
in loguetown,the subplot with Usopp doesn't fit because its anime filler. its not in the manga. In manga he just buys the goggles.
Also there is a chapter made by the mangaka of shokugeki no soma with sanji being badass and its AWESOME. It came out with theo 1000th chapter i think.
Better yet, there's three chapters now.
Actually the ussop subplot was actually supposed to be in the manga but it was cut out because oda wanted them to leave Logue town by chapter 100. The characters and flashback with yassop was planned.

And also your thoughts on filler arc are exactly why I hate fillers. Not because they are often bad. On contrary, the better the filler is, the worse the case. It's because they are written not by original author, thus they introduce terrible and misleading continuity errors! Characters easily manage things they will struggle in future (or the other way), world is inconsistent (there are future events when for example characters from filler should react, appear, take action but they won't, problems they would solve but they are not even mentioned). It's so disappointing, taking into consideration how interconnecting world Oda is building in the original story. Fillers just mess with it and with the viewer, who is just forced to disregard major reveals cause in the end they simply do not matter at all.

Nothing against watching the fillers. But you should remember that they aren't cannon, so it's not worth theorizing about it. (Specially since some even contradict canon arcs, for example, if in the future the crew were to see dragons, they wouldn't recall the Warship Island since in the actual story those events never happened). The only actually good filler arc is G8.
Anyway I know you said you wouldn't use One Pace but I believe that it's a must at the second half of the anime. I'd recommend you to start using at the Thriller Bark Arc. And maybe on Long Ring Long Island too, since half of the arc is non-cannon, and screws the pace of the arc (and also have some moments that go against the characters development)

Loguetowm, or Roguetown as it was called in the 4kids dub, is an arc I have a soft spot for; as it was first arc I ever watched. And it was the Sanji episode in particular, which was amazing in all version
its so funny. the only time you have complained or been unsure about something implemented in the story is whenever oda is not writing it

Zoro cuts steel chains to save the dragon here but a few episodes later he's having to overcome his inability to cut steel against mr 1, yeah they're fun but they're a detriment if they add inconsistencies to the show.

That two episodes of buggy is canon it was from cover page story. i personally want see more of it get animated since there was only 6~7 that's get it. yeah some of it was out dated by a decade or so but still pretty good to see trough. And smoker hobby was pottery and play poker so yeah there's that.

well, i tried watching naruto and that has awful lots and awfully obvious fillers. so one piece fillers doesn't sound like a filler at all. the warship island, to be honest, is the only one that truly seems like a filler. so despite seeing people say don't watch the filler, i'd prolly would. after all, i dived in to this behemoth of a series for the adventure. every episode is one.
i'm also very tempted to read the manga, but i'd prolly wait until i can afford to buy the books. and then i'll relive the adventure.

Warship Island, the first full filler, as you progress youll notice fillers allways do something, lets see if you notice it, also most of Rouge Town side stories are also filler, only Zoros and the small encounter of Smoker and Luffy are canon
notice of Buggys big adventure is one of the first cover stories, in the begining of the manga chapters, he put small mini arcs like this one, but unfortunatly, only very few have been animated, when they actually inform continuity like this one showed that matters in the story
about Tashigui... there are theories... and some is thanks to Odas SBS in the mangas... but lets say it can be traced to One Piece current events
notice about Warship Island, the Calm Belt is the only canon part in it, minus Apis and the entrance to the Grand Line minus okama, and those arent Sea Monsters, they are Sea Kings or Neptunians depending on which translation you want, as for what role the Calm Belt takes, youll know soon enough

Buggys little arc is something that's done in the manga but they stopped adaptating, on each chapters first page there is a panel dedicated to a side story. These little story's about characters going on their own little adventures can take ages to finish. There's a character that dies but is revealed to be alive in the front page stories that I had no idea about until recently. I wish they'd adapt them all because sometimes past characters just kind of show up without an explanation because it was explained there
I totally forgot that dragons were introduced much earlier in the anime
The amount of plot canon in Warship island is actually insane -
- Calm belts introduced
- Luffy being able to hear ryu being a foreshadow of the voice of all things
- Millenial dragons basically rhymes with celestial dragons
- The corruption of the marines is put further on display in this arc
- Eric's devil fruit is basically a foreshadow to both Mihawk's & Zoro's future attacks which are both just air slashes
The scene with the bounty posters in the bar was anime original. Those guys aren't canon they're just background filler.

The Gold Roger Bar part is not canon so don't expect the Wanted Posters to be that relevant. Same for Usopp's duel. One Piece has a lot of filler in between canon material so be vary to not take the non-canon too seriously as it sometimes creates plot holes and even straight up contradict the story.
