    How do they legaly run this without headlights? I know 347c is just being pushed, but there has to be a way to jumper power from the WP unit to the lead unit to power the lights. Maybe its time for the museum to start fund raising to make 347c functional again.

      Docent here to answer the question!
      ATSF 347C must be operated only in broad daylight, with a fully certified Brakeman or higher cert in the cab when shoving the unit. The brakes are fully functional, but without the power tie to WP 913, the lights don't work. It is operated with a special order from the FRA, giving authority to proceed at restricted speed, or no faster than can be stopped within half the range if vision when leading. On our line, that equates to 20 mph.
      As far as the restoration, it is currently 5th in line. We have several projects that take precedence, for example a total overhaul on the 913. Hopefully the warbonnets will be running within the next three years, but who knows

    Nice preservations of these engines & coaches. That horn on that Western Pacific sounded awful. 😱 . I was wondering are these FP 9 Engines ? These are slightly to long to be an F 7 to F 9 units. Very good video. 👍🎥🛤️🛤️

    • @RailbrosStudios
      @RailbrosStudios  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both units are EMD F7A's. Also, WP #913's horn is an old single chime horn which was the standard of first generation diesels of the late 40s and 50s. It wasn't until the late 50s and early 60s that the multi-chime horn became popular with railroads.

      @@RailbrosStudios This is interesting, thanks for the information. I understand that orange flashing lights were also used for these purposes before (in the movie Under Siege 2 I saw diesel locomotives with them on the roof)

    • @FreihEitner
      @FreihEitner ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VeksTrainz I believe (I'm not expert on railroad law) that the bell requirement was much older than the flashing lights -- for instance the bells were used on steam locomotives in the early 1900s. I also believe (again, no expert) that they were required mostly during low-speed operations, when pushing a train, or in rail yards.

      Being a locomotive engineer for over 19 years, I always enjoy when I here rules being quoted. The point I was trying to make is "IF" there were to be a grade crossing accident regardless of operating under rule 6.27 or 6.28 (Movement at Restricted Speed or Movement on Other than Main Track) per 49 CFR 229.125 "Headlights and auxillary lights"; it "could" turn into a sticky situation. Several years ago I had a "severly impaired" driver run the gates and wedge her car under the fuel tank of the SOO 1528. I thought it was funny as hell because this chick could barely stand and was yelling at me saying "you need to move the damn train!". It took two tow trucks to get her car out from under the fuel tank. Her attorney tried arguing that I did not blow the horn to provide sufficient warning to his client. The best part was we were stopped on the crossing with the crossing lights and gates active waiting for my conductor to throw a switch at an industry when she hit us! They then tried to argue the "headlight" was not properly displayed making it more "difficult" for her to see the "big orange and black" locomotive sitting there! It doesn't take much for a lawsuit. @@RailbrosStudios
