Falling is such an intense concept and at first i didn't understand why Fujimoto tackled it like this, but then i saw the beauty of it. Falling is a primal fear, but everyone of us think of jumping when very high up. Also, falling in love? Out of love? To pieces? It gives me the idea of something unavoidable and visceral, we can't avoid falling in nature, it's a phenomenon we can only live and try to recover from. Must read it again! Thanks for sharing this, I'll definitely check out all the references! :)
What I like about the Falling Devil is that right after you see her wreaking havoc as well as one shotting the friggin justice devil, you get to see her bowing to this mysterious figure as if a being that powerful would actually do that to anyone, but lo and behold, there stood Fami. Her motives to be the chef of hell is also very interesting, perhaps the most unique one out of the other devils we've seen.
When the people had the instinct to jump off of the balcony reminds me of the phenomenon called L'appel Du Vide which is when you get an urge to jump when you are very high up
That's interesting. Besides the falling part, it's actually the opposite for me. L'appel du vide is a strong cognitive dissonance where you are very much aware that you don't want to jump but deep inside there's an urge or instinct to jump. Whereas in CSM, they are very consciously choosing this under the influence without misgivings.
24:49 Falling Devil is the most Genuine about her role as the Chef of Hell. It like you mistreat Sanji cooking and be surprise to get Sweet Chin Music your way. Also, Let us not forget that the Falling we saw in that arc was 50% in strength given the information Fami told us when summoning Guilly
You're incorrect about something. Fami didn't state that the pawns she controls are weakened by exact 50%. Fami instead says this: "The Devils I summon with my power are weak. They can't use their full strength." This means that the pawns she controls could be even weaker than 50% of their original strength. This makes most sense since Falling Devil would be unfathomably stronger (It's been established in chapter 65 that the Primal Devil are alot more powerful and destructive than "some Gun Devil" who killed 1.2 million in 5 minutes. Weakened Falling Devil, fluctuated the gravity around the world, killing thousands and causing landslides and caveins. This shows that the debuff from Fami is alot higher than 50%. It likely makes her pawns around 85%-90% weaker or something when comparing the Gun Devil to the weakened Falling Devil who was holding back).
@@We_see_all Which would make sense. Unlike makimas chains The Devil that Fami Summon are generally independent and can disobey Fami orders if they want to. All in All, Fami is a parasite that needs to use other people to obtain the power needed to fully stand in for Makima (Who was a deitylike figure similar to Sukuna)

If you still didn't understand, then the Weapon Devils are the hearts inside of their body (The sword Devil, for example, is a weapon Devil, and is the heart of Miri Sugo who is a Weapon human, aka a Hybrid).
@@We_see_all Interesting... So the narrative wants us to associate Denji & the other hybrids (Samurai Sword, Reze, Quanxi, Barem, Miri, etc) with _humanity_ rather than _devil-kind?_ This has a lot of potential interpretations. (Maybe the paranoia and discrimination against Denji & Chainsaw-Man during the Chainsaw-pocalypse arc was inherently irrational?)
Before Falling, there had already been devils that have been shown or said to encompass multiple similar fears, but I believe she's the first one we've gotten a way more detailed look into. Darkness's fear obviously encompasses the fear of the unknown, as that is why we're scared of the dark in the first place, but we never really get to see how that plays into his abilities. We know Justice, Fairness and Equality exist and overlap, so I'm super curious if the Fear of the Unknown Devil is a thing or not. With Falling, we see her get people to commit suicide, fall emotionally, leading to falling physically. While her powers are so strong this wouldn't be worth mentioning, I have no doubt she'd also be able to make people fall financially, maybe even able to get people to fall in love. It's just a neat little thing I love about Devils that I like got explored a bit more here.
I wish I could send images on TH-cam so that I could show you how the unknown plays into the Darkness Devils abilities. -Apart from the obvious fact that we don't fully know how his abilities function (unknown), in chapter 65 D-devil speaks an unknown language, which allowed him to create holes in the villains fiend out of nowhere. - When Denji makes a contact with the D-Devils forcefield (?), his chainsaws created sparks which illuminated in the darkness. Small humanoid freaks then begin to point at the light. -Then there's the cute little unknown frog (probably a reference to the greek God of Darkness: Kek). Whenever it ribbits, everyones limbs are suddenly detached from their body (We humans use hands to navigate in the darkness. Without them we are truly lost in the unknown darkness). There're probably more details that I missed which shows how the D-devil incorporates the unknown into his abilities. But that's all I could gather for now.
@@We_see_all Insane how already well aware I am of all these things but never thought to actually consider them as parts of the "unknown" or aspects of its abilities. Naw that for when the Chainsaw Devil eats it that the concept and devil are removed. Close but not quite. A devil dying in hell goes to earth, and on earth it goes to hell.
I would also like to highlight the fact that she is also terrifyingly strong. Not only she viewed Denji more of a nuisance than a threat but also just her being on the human world only for a couple of hours caused mayor damage all over the world. Let me remind you, she was not there to cause damage, she was there to prepare a meal. Imagine the damage she (and Darkness too) could cause if her objective was to cause damage
Her multi-limbed appearance is similar to the Darkness Devil, which I think is on purpose compared to other primal fears. Falling and Darkness were both labeled as primal fears in the same study, which showed that these are the only two things that babies can be considered afraid of without being taught. (Or rather, the only things that can be humanely tested for.) So Falling and Darkness are essentially two primal devils of the same "tier." (Death comes from a different study entirely, where it is the zenith of a pyramid and labeled as "extinction." "Loss of autonomy" aka Control was on the same pyramid two steps below it, meaning Makima might be considered a primal fear and would two steps below Death in power. Since War and Famine also have powers that involve taking control of someone, they might be under the "loss of autonomy" category in the hierarchy of primal fears, making them the same as Makima and thus also primal fears. Of course it might just be that War, Famine, and Control are considered collectively on par with a primal devil, however since Makima could stand her ground against Darkness and Famine could take control of Falling, I think they might just legitimately be primal fears.)
I’m pretty sure the bird Yoru first appears as is a Potoo, which despite the similarities to owls (nocturnal, large eyes, general body shape) is not related to owls
1:28 as soon as this segment started I knew it sounded way too familiar, lo and behold I check the description and I see limbus. This game is everywhere where I least expect it I swear
After reading the latest chapters, I'd say that you were onto something when you said the falling devil's appearance implies a change on the presentation of food in the story. Wow
something i don't see get brought up at all about her is her design resembling a motherly figure which i think relates to denji's and asa's trauma involving mother figures. denji, in a way, saw makima as a mother figure while asa had trauma from her fall that caused her mother's death and her caretaker(who's an older woman and could be seen as a temporary mother figure for asa) drowning her cat.
Something else you can see from a thematic sense is Denji’s further and deeper fall into depression between part 1 and 2, and now what’s gonna potentially happen with him post death by sushi incident. Denji is constantly falling in part 2 and hasn’t had a moment to get back up yet or even hit the ground in the first place.
Shes lived for millions/billions of years so I'm not surprised that she'd have a hobby of her own (especially when she has that kind of personality). Also, the fact that she is a cook and also is an ally of the Famine Devil is a fun detail.
It should be clarified that chicken legs do not have more joints than human legs. All vertebrates essentially have the same architecture. The same type of limbs, like hind limbs (aka legs), are just modified for a specific purpose. Like all birds, chickens are digitigrade, meaning that they walk on their "toes". The part of the leg that juts forwards instead of bending backwards like our knees is actually its ankle. They actually do have knees, which are usually hidden by feathers. However, I noticed that, like the humans arms, the featherless wings on the falling devil's back also have extra joints (quadruple jointed instead of triple-jointed). Again, wings are just specialized forelimbs, equivalent to arms. It's an impressive attention to detail on Fujimoto's part.
i didnt even watch 10 seconds of this video but i LOVE the motif in chainsawman of food becoming something bad for denji. i already forgot half of the references to this but like, for example, nayutas head in the most recent chapter. denji is gonna hate food after this.
Might be something, but all of Denji's interactions with Barem remind me of the temptations of the devil to Jesus like in Paradise Regained, which is Miltons sequel after Paradise Lost.
Maybe i`m a little deep on this but, thanks to this vid i get some idea about the primal fears. Maybe they are associated to the end of the world on some kind. Like darkness devil is the death of the sun or the absolute darkness. And Falling devil representing another alternative ending of the world that being the end of gravitation.
9:05 what if you just sincerely don’t care or can’t care? What happens when they get someone with such an insane chemical imbalance that there’s no reaction whatsoever? I ask because the idea of literally boring something to death is...amazing to me
The smt music is a real nice touch, lol. Feels outta place, but oddly fitting when gazing upon the designs of the Devils EDIT: so basically: she's the representation of Asa's journey/trauma, and the result and consequences of Denji's actions. Her being tied to both of them represents a, well, tie they share on a spiritual and emotional level. Their relationship, journey, and consequences of their lives culminated into a perversion of itself, but one meant to be overcame.
by the way chicken legs aren't triple jointed, pretty much all vertebrates share the same body plan; sometimes have elongated bits making them _look_ different
You mention the war devil original appeared as an owl. I wonder if that's to moke Athena(the Greek god of strategic war and wisdom) or maybe was Athena in the past?
Am I the only one who noticed that Fami explained later that devils summoned by her have a special restriction? so this explains this whole Chef fiasco from a supposedly overwhelmingly strong primal fear devil such as Falling devil, that's its appearance is less impactful compared to Darkness.
The association to the Moon that the Falling Devil has coule be more about orbits and gravity? Since an Orbit could be considered an infinite state of Falling?
For the falling devil chef theme I thought it might of been linked to Tyoko Ghoul because there’s one scene where it shows the ghouls gathering and eating the corpses of humans who fell off roads and died in car accidents. But that’s probably just me.
I like to think that there are some names in manga meant to be read as a Japanese and English pun. For example, I wouldn't be shocked if Denji's name being a portmanteau of "tenshi" was as intended as it sounding like "dingy"; gloomy and drab.
for me the "vonla" dish is a mistranslation from japanese, because if they went for a purely phonetical writing, it could be "vont la", which in french means "going there" (plural, 3rd person), so it would fit that the "essence of going there" would be the one moving people the most out of all the dishes

"Loss of autonomy" aka Control was on the same pyramid two steps below it, meaning Makima might be considered a primal fear and would two steps below Death in power.
If Famine also represents "hunger" in general it would definitely make sense for her to be a primal fear
I wish we couldve seen more of the Falling Mommy
I’m pretty sure the bird Yoru first appears as is a Potoo, which despite the similarities to owls (nocturnal, large eyes, general body shape) is not related to owls
Tatsuki is one of the greatest creatives and mangaka of our generation, and possibly ever.
I was just thinking about you doing a chainsaw man analysis video yesterday! Can't wait to see what you got in store for this one.
21:47 i love that Barem panel so much, you can barely distinguish his eye from his hair, and it looks so fucking scary
There is so much R34 of this devil. Not as much as Power or Makima, but enough to give her third place.
I mean, considering she literally appeared naked the first time, it's to be expected I'd say.
Only if you don't count humans like Kobeni or Himeno. Or Reze's human form for that matter.
@@AndreasNicklasson i try not to. Especially Kobeni. She's been through enough, ogling her just feels morally wrong.
how do u know that 🤨🤨🤨
@@gilbertotabares8196 fr I cant just look at kobeni that way, I root for her though
1:28 as soon as this segment started I knew it sounded way too familiar, lo and behold I check the description and I see limbus.
This game is everywhere where I least expect it I swear
Only Fujimoto can make an amalgamation of corpses look attractive
I have been looking forward to more Chainsaw Man or Dungeon Meshi content, thank you!
After reading the latest chapters, I'd say that you were onto something when you said the falling devil's appearance implies a change on the presentation of food in the story. Wow
Love your content! Thanks For this ❤❤❤❤
Cool video, please continue to make more ❤
something i don't see get brought up at all about her is her design resembling a motherly figure which i think relates to denji's and asa's trauma involving mother figures. denji, in a way, saw makima as a mother figure while asa had trauma from her fall that caused her mother's death and her caretaker(who's an older woman and could be seen as a temporary mother figure for asa) drowning her cat.
You really cooked with this one
it always amazes me just how in depth chainsaw man is.
New Video for Aging devil must be coming soon.
Love the falling devil
SAMJO JUMPSCARE!!!! I forgor you played limbus company hshshs
Good character analysis like this is so hard to find, keep it up homie.
13:57 oh i totally forgot about that, its very 15 years old of her lmao
food taking a new meaning in light of the newer chapters might be right
Something else you can see from a thematic sense is Denji’s further and deeper fall into depression between part 1 and 2, and now what’s gonna potentially happen with him post death by sushi incident. Denji is constantly falling in part 2 and hasn’t had a moment to get back up yet or even hit the ground in the first place.
18:09 Plucky and the bird like devils in general could also be a reference to Plato's man or a featherless avian biped
Patema Inverted is an amazing movie. Awesome plug, I can see the resemblence.
Really sick video, a lot of stuff I never noticed with Fallin- holy shit is that Samjo?
I think she is a cook because her ability has something to do with trauma and demons get there power from fear
She can take fear to a whole new level
As a chef for 20 years i can appreciate the design of the falling devil 👨🍳
You forgot that the power is a reference to Fujimoto himself trying to levitate 😛
you should do one for yoru and asa (love all your videos man, keep going)
The Menu was a big inspiration was it now? If that's the case, can The Falling Devil make a classic well made cheeseburger?
Only time will tell.
@@damonlam9145 That was the one dish that Slowik was happy to make.

just do NOT ask where the meat came from.
i didnt even watch 10 seconds of this video but i LOVE the motif in chainsawman of food becoming something bad for denji. i already forgot half of the references to this but like, for example, nayutas head in the most recent chapter. denji is gonna hate food after this.
The king returned to the chainsaw man lore 👑🛐🛐🛐🛐
Honestly this makes me think part 2 will end with Denji and Asa eating a meal together.
great video
I’m not sure if the expression exists the same in Japanese, but I think it’s neat that the Falling Devil’s body “falls into place”
Even though her design is more simplistic than other devils, she is actually my favorite.
Yu-Gi-Oh mentioned 🎉
Didn’t expect Bucky to be used in this vid, and for it it make sense
you “ate” with this analysis🫡
9:05 what if you just sincerely don’t care or can’t care? What happens when they get someone with such an insane chemical imbalance that there’s no reaction whatsoever?
I ask because the idea of literally boring something to death is...amazing to me
2:58 this is your generic Madoka Magica witch
Falling Devil is so silly I love her
The smt music is a real nice touch, lol. Feels outta place, but oddly fitting when gazing upon the designs of the Devils
EDIT: so basically: she's the representation of Asa's journey/trauma, and the result and consequences of Denji's actions. Her being tied to both of them represents a, well, tie they share on a spiritual and emotional level. Their relationship, journey, and consequences of their lives culminated into a perversion of itself, but one meant to be overcame.
The background of the video is also the Shinjuku Demon Haunt from SMTV Vengeance.

So, this is basically the Japanese version of, "The stars look beautiful tonight. You know what else is beautiful?"
Muscleman: MY MOM!!

I always wonder what would the 2008 film would look like in Fujimoto's vision, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw The parallels for the first time.
Really glad you decided to address this one, would be better if you gave one on denji or Yoru(even Fami) Down the line.
by the way chicken legs aren't triple jointed, pretty much all vertebrates share the same body plan; sometimes have elongated bits making them _look_ different
You mention the war devil original appeared as an owl. I wonder if that's to moke Athena(the Greek god of strategic war and wisdom) or maybe was Athena in the past?
Hear me out, “The Heaven Stairway Incident….but in Japan.”
YEAHHHHHHH 🎉🎉🎉
Meti is like the Nardwuar of manga community cuz how tf do you find these references?!?!
Power😭😭
Oh i do love the ds2 intro
Black chainsaw man is back! Pochita has the control back
For the falling devil chef theme I thought it might of been linked to Tyoko Ghoul because there’s one scene where it shows the ghouls gathering and eating the corpses of humans who fell off roads and died in car accidents. But that’s probably just me.
one word, would
I like to think that there are some names in manga meant to be read as a Japanese and English pun.
For example, I wouldn't be shocked if Denji's name being a portmanteau of "tenshi" was as intended as it sounding like "dingy"; gloomy and drab.
Hold up let em cook
Wow new vid
Don't go skydiving around Makimas place! Trust me you'll regret it!
Wait, is that the Hell's Chicken battle theme?
for me the "vonla" dish is a mistranslation from japanese, because if they went for a purely phonetical writing, it could be "vont la", which in french means "going there" (plural, 3rd person), so it would fit that the "essence of going there" would be the one moving people the most out of all the dishes
Fujimoto after making the hottest CSM character a fucked up body carrying a disembodied head
Funny how the moment a primal devil is introduced and after their arc concluded it immediately flip the story part on his head.
Akaza : why hasn't he made am video about me yet ❄❄❄
the Falling Devil when Gordon Ramsay walks in:
I wonder what the Fire Devil or Drowning Devil would look like?
Patema Inverted mentioned!
Do a video on Heat from digital devil saga
When fisrt looking at the design and name I thought the reason she looks like a chef is because of accindents with in kitchens because of falling.
