This is Lake Ohrid in Macedonia, one of the most beautiful spots in the Balkans. I was blown away by Ohrid and would definitely go back. It's somewhere I'd never heard of before visiting Macedonia in 2018, but now I would definitely recommend!

Ohrid is like paradise on Earth. I haven't seen a place as beautiful as that. I took a ton of pictures when I was there. Too bad you didn't show Holy Mary Peribleptos' and St. Sophia's churches, they're amazing to see, especially the first one, but they don't let you film or take photos inside it. I managed to take one after asking the guard, and he gave a good thought before letting me, maybe he was merciful because I was a tourist. In St. Sophia, on the other hand, they let you film and take all the pictures you want.

You did great job visiting Ohrid, the oldest natural lake in Europe. Unfortunately you were too short to experience some other stunning places around.
1) You missed St. Naum, one of the most beautiful churches in Macedonia where you can also see the springs of the River Drim. You will definitely see swans and peacocks.
2) The Prehistoric settlement in the Bay of Bones,
3) you can climb on Galichica Mountain and see both Ohrid and Prespa lakes - astonishing view. From here you can fly with parachute :)

Great video. Next time you go, check out the cafes right beside the lake. Take the lower path round the lake. It's such a peaceful place and the people are amazing as you said. We have lost that in the UK. I lived in Macedonia for 14 years and have culture shock when I go back home.

Me and my friend were in Ohrid last year . It was amazing . Our room was not perfect , but who the fuck cares ? VERY NICE PEOPLE !! I did not for one second felt like i was in danger or trouble . You Macedonias are amazing ! We will be back , for sure!

Its a petty you didnt come in the summer when its hot. There are usualy traditional festivals, people in cultural clothes and doing cultural dances. People from other places in europe also come to show their culture and its very fun!

The landmark is super nice and the fortress itself was pretty good. I stood in the exact same stops years afterwards.

Great stuff. Took a different route to you with St. Johns. Walked right along the lake instead of going up the hill. But great stuff nonetheless, wished I stayed longer as I only did it as a day trip.

I had planned a Balkans trip this July-August from Ljubljana to Bucharest and up to Belgrade and Timisoara.
Is Lake Ohrid better on the Albanian side or Macedonian Side?
I didn't get to the Albanian side unfortunately but heard good things. I can say that the city of Ohrid was really great to explore though!
TheLifeOfJord it’s a little out of the path for I planned to drive from Durres to Pristina and then to Skopje since the roads from Tirana to Skopje are very beaten and the border crossing is said to be bad.

I was born on the Albanian side of the lake, in a town called Pogradec. I would recommend you visit both sides of the lake, because they are both wonderful and very clean. Both Albanians and Macedonians are very nice and friendly. If you enjoy visiting cool old Churches and tradition food I would recommend you visit Korca and Voskopoje in Albania, not too far from Ohrid lake.
