My mom was the same way when I was a child. She let my step dad’s best friends take me out of my bed at night to snuggle with him for YEARS before he finally started abusing me. I had no voice and my mom thought it was cute. Years later when my son was 2, this man showed back up at our house after more than 10 years of being gone and when I told my mom I didn’t want him there or around my son she said “he doesn’t like little boys”. That was the day I moved out.

If TBI causes executive dysfunction and diminished impulse control then Stephan didn’t have serious effects from it. grooming takes extensive cognitive effort in manipulation and planning (executive function) and having to delay gratification by abusing in secrecy means his impulse control isn’t compromised.

If indeed a 7 or 8 year old was "run over twice" there will be an incident report (police) and if indeed there was a TBI suspected, SS would not have been released from hospital after couple hours. I'm not sure the story we are getting is truthful, and I'm starting to think this interview was to introduce a defense (TBI made him do it). However, if there is no incident or police report, or supporting medical reports, we will know this is pure embellishment.

She said that her mother had pounded it into her head to never trust a man but she had never seen or heard Stephan do anything inappropriate. Plus they had been together for like 7 years and Maddy would ask if they could sleep together like a “slumber party”. (Obviously, that’s a product of his grooming.) After listening to the police audio, it sounds like she had her mom’s voice in her ear but was worried she was being paranoid since, up to that point, he had never given her a reason to not trust him.
That’s why she was afraid of them running away together once she turned 18, she handled her daughter over to a predator. She 100% knew she is just as guilty if not more than him. It’s likely that they were somehow profiting off of SA of a child. I would not be surprised.

As a nurse, I know that Traumatic Brain Injury can affect a person’s personality, mood, affect, etc. Nevertheless, I can tell you that many, many parents of psychiatric patients are often unwilling to accept psychiatric diagnosis because of the social stigma. If I had a $20 bill for every parent who states their son or daughter’s schizophrenia (or whatever) developed after they fell and “hit their head” I would be a rich woman. SS’s parents are in Denial. I listened to the entire interview and found that the Sterns’ spent 90% of it defending themselves. “We know that we’re not the cause of it.”

Even though his parents enabled their child-thru the years up to-adult child, causality for their son’s CSAB of Madeline does not fall on them. He is an adult & responsible for his own behavior. Parents cannot control the behavior of adults even if they try. And, even if we disagree with their parenting of adult SS, those behaviors/enabling did not (unless there’s more we haven’t heard) have a direct link to his crimes. Once they knew of sleeping arrangement, though, they are responsible for failing to report it (particularly when “precocious” is tossed in as a descriptor of Madeline & the stated discomfort they felt about it). Doing something may have prevented further CSAB & her murder. That makes them appear culpable to me, though not the direct cause. It’s quite possible he had a TBI then later developed mental illness. Nevertheless, he has no reasons that mitigate his responsibility for what he did as he clearly knows right from wrong based on his behavior.
When that detective called her out i almost jumped out of my seat! Finally someone said it! She certainly didn't forget to give her daughter her pills every night but she didn't notice literally ANYTHING ELSE! All she cared about was drugging herself and her child so she could sleep life away!! She makes me sick.

I think these parents aren't these innocent people, not like they want us to believe. They knew something was wrong with Stephen. I believe they even knew he was into CP. do you recall the interview with one of his former roommates who said that another roommate had caught sterns taking pictures of the guy's girlfriend from what I remember when she was in the bathroom, with a hidden camera. He said that stern's mother paid the guy to keep quiet.
I read something similar. But it was when he was a teenage and he was looking at his friends mom in the bathroom through the window. I don't remember where I read it so who knows if it's true. However, sick people like him usually have a long history of disgusting acts before they get caught.

I take such issue with that interview with the parents. At the mom got close to the camera to give examples of how her son was so compassionate and kind towards animals. How she referenced Jennifer as the True Villain here. How she made a point to mention his traumatic brain injury from a car accident and she almost looked delighted when she indicated that she doesn't know where the hospital paperwork is on all of that but his defense attorneys have assured her they will find it. Not to worry. I truly wanted to vomit when both parents complained about not hearing from him for 3 weeks while he has been in solitary confinement, how skinny he is, how this is doing horrible things for his ptsd. Every bit of that is about enabling, softening, humanizing and personalizing their son so that we forget what he did or how many years he did it. If indeed a 7 or 8 year old was "run over twice" there will be an incident report (police) and if indeed there was a TBI suspected, SS would not have been released from hospital after couple hours. I'm not sure the story we are getting is truthful, and I'm starting to think this interview was to introduce a defense (TBI made him do it). However, if there is no incident or police report, or supporting medical reports, we will know this is pure embellishment.

I think her mom was jealous of her. In photos Jenn edits herself with white teeth and good skin (we see how she really looks in interviews) but Maddy has yellow teeth and an unkempt look about her. My mom is like that that's why it stuck out to me.

As a nurse, I know that Traumatic Brain Injury can affect a person’s personality, mood, affect, etc. Nevertheless, I can tell you that many, many parents of psychiatric patients are often unwilling to accept psychiatric diagnosis because of the social stigma. If I had a $20 bill for every parent who states their son or daughter’s schizophrenia (or whatever) developed after they fell and “hit their head” I would be a rich woman. SS’s parents are in Denial. I listened to the entire interview and found that the Sterns’ spent 90% of it defending themselves. “We know that we’re not the cause of it.”

Even though his parents enabled their child-thru the years up to-adult child, causality for their son’s CSAB of Madeline does not fall on them. He is an adult & responsible for his own behavior. Parents cannot control the behavior of adults even if they try. And, even if we disagree with their parenting of adult SS, those behaviors/enabling did not (unless there’s more we haven’t heard) have a direct link to his crimes.
Once they knew of sleeping arrangement, though, they are responsible for failing to report it (particularly when “precocious” is tossed in as a descriptor of Madeline & the stated discomfort they felt about it). Doing something may have prevented further CSAB & her murder. That makes them appear culpable to me, though not the direct cause.
It’s quite possible he had a TBI then later developed mental illness. Nevertheless, he has no reasons that mitigate his responsibility for what he did as he clearly knows right from wrong based on his behavior.
When that detective called her out i almost jumped out of my seat! Finally someone said it! She certainly didn't forget to give her daughter her pills every night but she didn't notice literally ANYTHING ELSE! All she cared about was drugging herself and her child so she could sleep life away!! She makes me sick.

I think these parents aren't these innocent people, not like they want us to believe. They knew something was wrong with Stephen. I believe they even knew he was into CP. That’s what I believe. When the father found 2 thumb drives he didn’t turn them over to law enforcement immediately. He put them in a computer to see what was on the thumb drives. I find that absolutely sick! Knowing what e could possibly see? Why not turn them over to the police from the get go?

do you recall the interview with one of his former roommates who said that another roommate had caught sterns taking pictures of the guy's girlfriend from what I remember when she was in the bathroom, with a hidden camera. He said that stern's mother paid the guy to keep quiet.
I read something similar. But it was when he was a teenage and he was looking at his friends mom in the bathroom through the window. I don't remember where I read it so who knows if it's true. However, sick people like him usually have a long history of disgusting acts before they get caught.

I take such issue with that interview with the parents. At the mom got close to the camera to give examples of how her son was so compassionate and kind towards animals. How she referenced Jennifer as the True Villain here. How she made a point to mention his traumatic brain injury from a car accident and she almost looked delighted when she indicated that she doesn't know where the hospital paperwork is on all of that but his defense attorneys have assured her they will find it. Not to worry. I truly wanted to vomit when both parents complained about not hearing from him for 3 weeks while he has been in solitary confinement, how skinny he is, how this is doing horrible things for his ptsd. Every bit of that is about enabling, softening, humanizing and personalizing their son so that we forget what he did or how many years he did it. They themselves point out what a liar he was and how he had Strange Behaviors and strange habits and couldn't be trusted, but then they also I completely sympathetic to what he's experiencing right now! What in the world do they think a child predator and a murderer should be treated like?? Should we be giving him a steak dinner every night? I don't get it.

The question about the where the money is coming from could be an idea planted by his parents to make JS as culpable as their son - they seem to think that any repercussions JS suffers would lessen the severity of their son's crime.
