Traveling Cambodia: Phnom Penh

- After exploring Siem Reap (we loved it there), we booked a flight to Sihanoukville in the south, though we couldn't wait for the monsoon rains to subside, which are especially heavy on the southern coast. We're getting short on travel time, so instead we headed to Phnom Penh, the bus was cheap and comfortable. Phnom Penh is our last destination before crossing the border into Vietnam.
Thanks for coming on this journey with us!
xoxo,
Christine
I lived there for 2 years (2013 2015) and am now back in the UK. This video just sealed it for me..... I AM GOING BACK!!!!!
For my generation these names and places held a different meaning. I shutter when I hear them. Thank you for revealing a change that is refreshing! What a gift you both are. Be safe and God Bless.
I'm LOVING these videos. I've been on a personal Dave up for my Iceland, Thailand, and Europe trip. I'm drooling over your trip and how simple you guys are packing. Honestly, wishing you and Michael safe travels, a good time, and safe return. Hugs!
It's so amazing how the world has changed -- I can't seem to get the Vietnam war out of my head whenever I hear names like Cambodia, Vietnam, Mekong River, Phnom Penh etc. I want to erase it all -- it looks like such a wonderful experience. I believe you guys will be forever changed after this summer. God bless and TFS!
thank you so much for taking us with you.... no words can describe how generous this is as it cannot be easy to find places to upload, spend time editing while you're on the go. Sending you some wonderful thoughts from Canada. Can't wait to "travel" more with you guys.
WoW, @ 3:03 seeing ice for drinks dragged across the wide floor is something else!
Thank you so much. These are places I'll never see in person it is a wonderful gift. Actually cried there a bit. You both are so generous and sweet, bless you.
Many speak English in Cambodia. I had some of my best conversations ever there in 2011. They are very curious about Americans.
Thank you again Christine and Michael!! I look forward everyday for a new video!!!! Blessings my friends and safe travels.
omg. you visited my home country. awesome. i am so obsessed with your channel. can't believe you came to cambodia. i wanna meet u. but currently i am studying for my uni in australia.

Vicki
I'm impressed at how seemingly effortlessly you're making your way from city to city. Heck, I get lost in my own town!
thank you both for taking the time to share and upload this videos, you two are so humble and one of my favorite couples on TH-cam. You make travel look so easy, l cannot wait to see your adventures in India, wow! This is a trip of a life time, you look so pretty as well, l truly hope you get a job with the Travel network or agency, you did a really great job describing places and showing up how to go from one end to the other. BraVo!
Thanks for posting your trip, this is so fun to watch! You guys have such an exciting life, and are such good people. Bless you and stay safe!
LOL! don't worry about the ice. There are two different type of ice that Cambodians use, one to cool stuff for cooler etc.. (cheaper, however lower class still use it for drinks etc), the other one is call "safety ice" that one is safe to put in your drink. And those two type of ice can be easily identified, the "unsafe" one are usually not in any particular shape and usually you can see some particles inside the ice itself, the "safe" ice are usually in a shape of a cylinder and it's should be crystal clear.
Correct! The cylindric ice cubes is the safe to drink one. It's the same in Laos and Thailand also. And I never got sick when I was in Cambodia for 1 month. And I used a lot of ice in my beverages.
exactly! dont worrie about the ice, as long as there is a little hole in your cubes.
if you buy drinks at a very veryyyy local restaurant located at some farm next to a rice field, then you might have to check if your ice isent chunky (because sometimes they cut it of from those large blocks indeed.
I am really liking your series . I cant wait for the next video everyday ! Thank you so so much for sharing with me .
These videos are great Christine. So ready for you to be home and getting into your new place so we can watch the organizing process take place. I am so out of the organizing mood. Need a jump start! Stay safe! Lots of love from the main land!
Loving your travel vlogs, Christine! I'm super excited and can't wait to see your next video when you and Michael are in Vietnam. Pretty sure so much have changed there since i left 20 years ago. Have fun, be safe and thank you for sharing your journey with us.
I've been enjoying your video travelogue since the beginning and don't know why I haven't commented more. Just wanted to say that you've done such a great job, and the two of you are just adorable. Safe travels. Looks like you are truly enjoying yourselves. Good for you!
First comment!! Loving your travel videos sweety! Have a safe trip! You too look like your having a blast :)
Loving these videos. You are both. So sweet with everyone you come across. Loved Michael sliding with the kids in one of your previous videos. Eww, the blocks of ice...
Actually, the ice block is dragged to the market to be crushed and used as bedding to fish and meats. Also, blocks are usually rinsed a few times before they are crushed. In many SE Asian nations, seafood and meats are sold in their fresh or unfrozen state, so ice beds are used to keep them stay fresh. But these ice are not used in food. Restaurants serve ice from their own freezers. If you got sick from the ice coffee, it's more likely due to a bacterial strain which you are not used to.
Christine, thank you and Steve for sharing this awesome vacation, each day I'm looking for a new video from you, I will never be able to go to Thailand but with you sharing your vacation videos I feel like I'm also there vacationing with you guys, I can't wait to see the videos from India...Thank you again!
i tell my friends about what you're doing. i think it's really amazing & i love love love that you're taking your viewers along.
To think that my husband took a swift boat up the Mekong in 1969. Thank you for pointing out the river.
Safe travels.
I have been living in cambodia for 7 years and have never gotten sick. I feel for you. When you saw the ice drag across the ground, there is a difference. There is drink-ice and there is chilled-ice. Unfortunately for you, you assumed both are the same.
Good call but you are wrong
+Scotty Davis 7 years mate? That is mental.
My parents were born and raised in Cambodia! I've been there twice and i loved it! :) going there again next year :)

thats where im from.. after watching this really make me miss my hometown, i havent been back 3 years already
I love the fact you guys chose such a different vacation spot, My idea of a perfect getaway would be Hawaii, but you both live there already so it's interesting to see where a person from a tropical paradise would travel on vacation.
just love the quality of these vids - the best I've seen so far........tnx....:-)
Luv watching ur travelogues!!!! Safe travels & thank you for taking the time to share!!!
Other then your flights from/return home, did you book your flights within South East Asia before you left home or did you book them along the way? Thanks

What was the hotel called? Thanks
I'd be scared to death in traffic. No way would I attempt driving in that chaos. So want to travel there. Thanks for showing your travels!
Good stuff! Thanks for sharing, be safe out there and keep the vids comin!
You guys are having my dream vacation. Will be following in your footsteps soon
You are Good at Vlogging as you go! So anxious for you seeing all the crazy TukTuk driving. Here in Scandinavia insurance companies do not cover accidents in those... Be careful now, and a continous wonderful experience!
Ahhhhh the ice part.... Every time I drink anything with ice while im out now I am going to think about this.
Thanks again for sharing! I really look forward to your updates. Take care!
Hi Christine! I love your videos, you have inspired me to go vegan. Can't wait for your next video. I am Canadian-born Vietnamese and went back to Vietnam for the first time with my mother about 5 years ago. It was quite a culture shock for me but I loved (and hated some parts) it. We stayed for a month and explored what we could. It was super hot and humid, and I only got a minor stomach ache even though we were very careful. I looooved the fresh tropical fruits!
I love your vlogs! I really want to go out and travel now as well!!
Cambodia is an amazing place to go and explore. Its cheap and very gorgeous. People r amzing and not to mention abt angkor wat. The best
Another awesome video..... I wish I was in your backpack traveling with you guys....
Hi,
What program did you use to make a flight path from Siem Reap to Sihanoukville?
Really appreciate your response. Thanks,
Hi! Not Christine. ☺She does have a vid explaining "what" they each packed in their backpack. It's at the very beginning of her trip before she left HI. I'm thinking she was in the hotel the night before their plane left. HTH ☺
Thanks for the video. I can not wait to move back to Cambodia!!!!!
That's an awesome video. Loved it. Thank you for the upload.
im a student from Cambodia . I really love this . It awesome
Looks amazing! I would love all the market shopping!
I believe that the ice blocks are for the fish vendors. They keep the fish fresh.
It's never long enough. You're making me want to give up everything and travel.
Beautiful. :) surprised you only stopped by in Cambodia for a short time. When you passed by the Mekong river, all I thought about was that NARS eyeshadow and was like oh so that's where that place is. Haha. :P NARS really likes to use places to name their items. I love all the fruits in Asia. :3
I love these videos! You guys are so brave!
Great video! I love what you guys are doing!
Very informative video(s) you have posted. I'm planning a trip there ... Could you please tell me the name of the hotel you stayed at? (could not understand name from video) Thanks!
I love stockpiling your videos until i have a little collection and then just sitting down and having a marathon! I love travelling but india and alot of the area youre visiting has never really been on my radar and I'm not too sure I'd travel there, but I love getting to experience this with you :)
This is such a nice experience traveling to several countries at the time.....wish I had the same will to do that!!!
You are so lucky . I'm Cambodian, I wish to go there when I'm older. Your so beautiful .
Thanks for visiting my home land
Thank u for sharing, what a adventure for me to see from my bed in Texas. Safe journeys
Thank you again for another interesting video. I am amazed at the way they drive in the city. How is it there were no wrecks?
I think Christine and Michael should go to the Philippines also. So many islands there to go to, and they probably will enjoy there as well...
wow that traffic is crazy!!! I can't imagine driving in that. Having to be aware of all those bikers is nutty!!!
We may go to Cambodia next year. Did you hear French at all? I want to speak to the natives, do you suggest Khmer?
U mean do Cambodian speak French much ? They don't but lots of people use english
I ask my cousin if anyone spoke French in cambo apparently not even though it's suppose to be our secondary language?
***** don't talk shit about my country
***** fuck you and you country who care about you.... Fuck
Van Sem There are some people still speak French but it's easier if you speak English.
Thankyou so much your video will be a great help on my visit.
The last shot wasn't crossing the Mekong, it's basacc river..
Love your videos. Keep them coming!

Looking forward to see your next video!
Nice video. Have safe travelling :)
Wishing that you're safe and well....missing your vlogs.
Well, I'm not really concern about ice dragging on the ground, it can be washed out later or the out side should be melt out, The water that they made the ice from that worry me, It could be water from the river.
And yes, these particular ice perhaps purposely used for cooling foods product such as meat.
How long did you stay in Cambodia? - Kayla.
I am going there as a side trip after Thailand in September and like to get an idea of how many days is nice for a taste of it.
Would love to visit one day! I miss the mother land!!
I like the map effects
Hi Christine.. keep these great travel vids coming~ I'm enjoying each and everyone. ☺ I was wondering how your choosing safe "food" for every meal in the different cities??
$25 bucks for a room for two is a great deal
Seriously, $25/ night- their own room, tv, aircon, etc... bargain
