    Siem Reap is SO MUCH MORE than just Angkor Wat. We can't recommend enough booking a full day or two just to explore this city. You'll basically have it all to yourself!! Have we missed something else that people need to do when in Siem Reap? Let us know down below (& also please let us know what type of bats those are lol). Thank you so much for watching & see you in a few days!!

      I just got back home yesterday from Motherland. There is Kyung Yu, also named Road 60. It's like a nighting where the locals like to hang out other than Pub Street. They have food vendors, food truck, shopping stands.

    Those were the harmless fruit bats but unfortunately I had to eat a lot of them during hardship under Khmer Rouge Pol Pot. I had a chance to visit this historical place with my family way back in the 60s before the civil war was erupted. Most of my family members did not survive the genocide there and I was still a teenager then. Only memory lives on. Life is short to do the things we don't love doing. Be mindful and be happy of what we have today. Enjoy your travels. Peace out from a genocide survivor 🎉

    • @ProbablyLost
      @ProbablyLost  ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I'm sure that has to be tremendously difficult😢 We're so happy you share the same mentality on life that we do. It's WAY too short not to find things that bring happiness to yourself & others. That's ultimately what brought us to Cambodia in a sense. We love traveling to new places and experiencing differences in the cultures, cuisines, etc. But I think the thing that strikes us the most is how everyone everywhere is generally more or less the same. People value their family, their religion, their community, & the things that bring them happiness, & the overwhelming majority of people we've come in contact with are so kind. That's the BIGGEST thing we've learned while traveling & it's something that we try to get across in every one of our videos. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch our video, it seriously means the world to us!!!❤️

      So very sorry to hear of your losses it was a very tragic and dark time in Cambodia's history I lost my father in that regime.They said he was a traitor because he was a vet and trained and worked in England UK.
      I'm in UK and haven't been back to Cambodia for a long time.Looking forward to going back,i'm sure there's lots of changes to Siem Reap since back then.

    Hi I'm Devid from Cambodia, as I remember from my friend who was originated from Siem Reap, the garden you have visited was originally built to showcase Khmer Cultural Show with many fantastic performances from morning till late evening in each parts inside of the garden , however after the pandemic they cannot afford the performers anymore so they had to close the shows and converted it to a Green Garden . I am glad they kept the park and reopened it.

      The Cultural Village has been closed since the pandemic. The reason for the name change is that it is now under another company that does not have the vision to maintain the events inside the Cultural Village to be the same as before. At that time, more than 300 workers lost their jobs.

    Hello, we have been watching most of your videos and we like your energy. We were wondering, are you doing a 1 year travel or do you plan to travel full time ? Do you have a planned budget ?
    We’re considering pre-retirement (1 year off, maybe more…) so we’re wondering the expected budget for slow travelling.

    • @ProbablyLost
      @ProbablyLost  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch our videos!! As far as our plans, we traveled full-time for 2022 through Europe & are going through Asia for (most) of 2023. As far as a budget, we really don't have a STRICT one or anything, mostly because Hannah also works part-time remotely & we live so cheaply that we never come close to spending it down here (things are VERY affordable compared to the US). As far as considering retirement, that is an INCREDIBLE achievement!! If you're looking for an expected budget for slow traveling, then we probably aren't the best source of information for you. BUT, we have a couple of friends named Brian & Carrie who have a TH-cam channel. They've retired early & slow-travel & do an exceptional job breaking down what that looks like, so we HIGHLY recommend checking them out. They'll be much more in line with what your looking for. I hope this helps you a bit, & thank you so much again for taking the time to watch our video. It means the world to us!!!❤️

    Hello welcome to Cambodia 🇰🇭. 🤗💕 I do like your videos a lot. Thanks for visiting and sharing your videos to the world. We do appreciate that. ❤😍🥰
    There are few things I think I can help answering:
    1. The garden you’re walking pass at the beginning of the video which is closed for visiting is Siem Reap Royal Palace, where the King stays whenever he visit Siem Reap. Therefore, it’s not open for visiting. We, Cambodian, also can’t go inside but can walk around, take photos, relax or exercise at the garden next to it.
    2. The Cultural Village, it used to be crowded and a very popular place for visitors (before Covid-19). There were many shows about different cultures of people lifestyles such as Khmer, Mon, Kuy, Chinese, etc, which were shown by many talented people and the shows were very funny. Unfortunately, after Covid-19, this place become… as you can see. No visitors, no more shows. Hopefully, it can come back to live again soon. 🤞🤞🤞
    Anyway, again, thank you so much for visiting us. Hope you had a great day and welcome back anytime. 🤗😍🥰💕

    Would you recommend using US Dollars or Cambodian Riel?
    I'm travelling there in February from the UK with GBP

    • @ProbablyLost
      @ProbablyLost  ปีที่แล้ว

      So we'd definitely recommend carrying USD but I'd get it before arriving. The reason is because the ATMs in Cambodia mostly just give out 100 dollar bills which are almost impossible to break down. Most restaurants/stores won't accept them. So prior to arriving I definitely recommend getting USD in bills no higher than 20s. Most of the change that you receive between the dollar mark will be in Riel so you'll have to do a bit of conversion after your transactions (which is necessary because some places will try to short change you unfortunately). Sorry for the long message but hopefully this makes a bit of sense🤣 You're going to have a great trip though. Cambodia's so great. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch our video!!!

      We couldn't agree more!!!! We had some beef lok lak in both Siem Reap & Phnom Penh & both times it was INCREDIBLE. We're currently in Malaysia right now & while the food's good here too, we're definitely craving the food we had in Cambodia🤣 Thank you so much for watching our video!!!😊

    Those are Fruit bats. They look scary, but I don't think they bite or spread the disease like cave bats. There are a lot wild fruits in Cambodia that these bats love to eat, but they love to come to towns or cities, usually, in the evening for different fruits. I am surprised that you see them during the day. I used to help my grandma cover lychee or leece fruits with fruit baskets or the bats will eat them all at night.

    These Asia vlogs are causing friction in my household. The boss says we are going to Asia in 2024 but I'm planning to follow Scotland football team winning Euro 2024 in Germany.

    • @ProbablyLost
      @ProbablyLost  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's hilarious🤣 So in MY (Trey) opnion, I would 100% recommend following Scotland to Germany for the Euros. Asia will still be here in 2025 & beyond, but missing my man Billy Gilmour score the go-ahead goal on Jordan Pickford to shock the world in Berlin will be something you'll never forgive yourself for. SO, you only have one choice in my mind🤣 Thanks so much for watching our video Alan!!!

    I just got back from Cambodai, staying 5 nights in Siem Reap and 5 in Phnom Penh. I was working in schools in both areas, and found that during the bulk of the day, most people are working, but kinda chilling due to the heat. Nights was when the city came to life and people came out. I loved it and can't wait to get back.

    I love Siem Reap too (or at least I used to in the old days about 8-10 years ago) but some of these channels are literally just happy talking up a lot of places that have turned pretty dark in some ways. If you walk outside the center Pub Street area where sometimes strange people follow you around talking nonsense (probably scammers) now the riverside is littered with young male junkies sleeping on benches who will stare at you or stand in your way in threatening ways. Years ago, there were families and couples along the riverside and it used to be really enjoyable and relaxed at night beyond the center area where you could stay up all night and walk around without any problems. Now if you're walking around past 9-10 pm outside the center area strange people on motorbikes with unknown intentions might follow you around and there's no one else on the street. Also, the tuk tuk drivers will block almost all of the sidewalks in the center of the city and rudely and aggressively accost tourists to take a tuk tuk (then act nasty and make rude comments when you don't). Happy talking up countries doesn't do anyone any good. Then there's the gays and ladyboys that are constantly staring at and harassing Western foreigner men who aren't with a girlfriend or wife (robotically believing every foreigner to be homosexual or wanting to be). Southeast Asia has changed and not for the better (almost to the point of not being worth going back to anymore) but let's at least be honest with people.

      Hi!! We appreciate you taking the time to leave us some feedback on our video!! I can see why you feel that way with regard to some of your points. We never really experienced anything particularly dangerous or seriously uncomfortable during our visit, but there were some low-level things that would continuously happen that would certainly leave us frustrated (like your point of the tuktuks being pretty aggressive, or not receiving the correct change from restaurants/bars on or around pub street as well as the RIDICULOUS 7-Eleven in operation at the end of Pub Street). We certainly had our moments of frustration, but we really can only speak to what we experienced & we never felt in danger at any point during our visit. Granted we were only there for 4 nights so it was a short trip. We've heard it was very different about a decade ago so to say we're jealous you got to see it at that time would be a bit of an understatement😅 Ultimately, we spoke so glowingly about it because we didn't have much reason not to. I hope that makes sense & in any case, we do appreciate you taking the time to watch our video!

      Compared to what we're used to, we thought it was pretty affordable!! Just off Pub Street was the best for us though. We found some pretty good deals on beer there. And regarding tuktuks, that's why we always just called them through Grab & paid through the app. It avoided that situation entirely! Thanks so much for watching our video!!!:)
