Excellent list. I do agree with you on those figures. My number one has always been and always will be the very first figure I got-- Darth Vader. I remember when I first started to get these figures. Darth Vader made me lose sleep!! I asked my Dad if I could get a Darth Vader action figure. He said that we will go to Toy R Us tomorrow and he will get me one. I was so excited that I didn't sleep all night long. That weekend was when the magic of Star Wars started with me.
Great story! Darth Vader is a special figure that’s for sure.
AT-AT Driver was always a favourite of mine as a kid. When pan&scan (4:3) VHS was the only way you could watch ESB, the cardback for this figure was the only way you could see the front of this trooper's helmet.
The AT-AT driver is another solid choice. I think I wore my VHS set out! LOL
My Top Ten in reverse order:
10) Princess Leia: In Combat Poncho
9) Princess Leia: Boushh Disguise
8) Bossk
7) Gamorrean Guard
6) Yoda (orange snake)
5) Snaggletooth (red)
4) Greedo
3) Luke Skywalker: X-Wing Pilot
2) Luke Skywalker (Tatooine)
1) Boba Fett
Not a bad list! 🤙🏻
Was awesome that you could actually holster her blaster
I would also include Squid Head on my list. Such a unique figure: head sculpt, hand sculpt, fabrique, belt, blaster, don't see him often on Top 10 lists though
Squid Head is a great figure. I’d have to agree with you.
Nice list man
Thanks, Sir! Tune in tomorrow morning for my complete Playset tour!
great list gq my number 10 Death Star commander number 1 Death Star droid he was the first Star Wars figure i got he holds a special place in my heart. thank you gq your content is special too thank you so much😊
Thanks, Grant! How you "feel" about these toys definitely has a bigger impact on you than how they figures look. Absolutely!
Great 80s like intro!
Thank you!
Great list mate my number one from childhood was always Hoth Snowtrooper they are bad ass
Snowtroopers are just too damn cool. Period.
A great list! The best thing about top ten lists is that they make interesting conversation starters. Especially when the people you are talking with have reasons for why they place each item in its spot on the list like you have. There are some you've put in your top ten that I would also, but there are some differences as well.
If I could talk to my ten year old self and ask him which ten figures he liked best I think he would say:
10: Two-Onebee (2-1B) I was really into things that were transparent or translucent as a kid, so I loved the look of him with his translucent bacta tank in his body and that sort of hospital greenish blue color of much of the rest of him. I remember playing that the tube that goes into his microphone mouthpiece was what he took out to give bacta to injured people and the accessory was what he used to sew up wounds.
9: FX-7 I loved playing with him in tandem with 2-1B. I had a fascination with healing, probably from watching our county veterinarian when he'd come out to my grandpa's ranch to help us with a sick animal. I thought that the medics were the most important people in armies, so I held 2-1B and FX-7 in high esteem among the Star Wars characters. I love the way his head telescopes and how the multiple white arms come out. I imagined that he could fly with some kind of hover motor in his bottom like the Sand Speeders or Speeder Bikes. It was fun to imagine these two droids stitching people up and healing burn wounds after battles that my figures would have.
8: Yoda. It was hard to decide where to put him on this list, but he definitely belongs in the top ten. I got the orange snake version paired with the brown eyes variant as a kid. I loved that he came with so many accessories! I also loved the soft goods cloak that he wore that even had a belt that went over the top of it. I remember wondering why he got that while the Jawa didn't get a bandolier over his hooded cloak. I think I only took his belt and cloak off once, then put it back on because the belt was kind of difficult for me to fasten. Loved the snake and pretended that it was Yoda's pet who would actually communicate with him through the Force. The character in the movie was my favorite out of all the ones in ESB. So amazingly brought to life that you could forget he was a puppet and really get into his scenes. I was fascinated by puppets as a kid and loved trying to make them. Never made a convincing looking Yoda one, but it was fun trying. Loved trying to imitate the way he talked. I imitated a lot of the Star Wars characters, but him especially. Up the wall, it drove my parents. Yes. :)
7: IG-88. This is another character who didn't do much in the movie he was in so I could imagine him any way I wanted to. I was fascinated by robots even before I ever saw Star Wars, so I loved all of the droids in the movies. I especially loved the unique, highly mechanical look of him. I loved examining the parts that real-life machines were made of as a kid, so I appreciated how highly detailed he was, even as an action figure.
6: Jawa. My favorite alien from the first movie. I loved the glowing eyes peering out from under the dark hoods. I loved their weird language too and how they lived in the Sandcrawlers. I too loved the soft goods parts of the action figures and this was the first figure I got that had a soft goods part to him. I remember wondering why all of the characters who wore outer garments didn't have soft ones like he did rather than vinyl ones.
5: X-Wing Fighter Pilot Luke. Luke is a great character and I like all of his figures, but for me, this was his best one. Partly because he could hold his blaster very well and partly because of all the great flying scenes and when he blows up the AT-AT. I loved fighter planes as a kid and loved the X-Wings which were the Star Wars version of those. When I got a Bespin Luke later on, I often gave his lightsaber to Pilot Luke.
4: Logray. I love the Ewoks too, but for me Logray was the best of them because of how he looked in the movie and as an action figure. I dug his cool skull headdress, staff and pouch which I imagined held his witchdoctor medicines and talismen etc. I also liked his striped fur which makes him quite distinctive. Wicket is awesome in all of his scenes, but Logray is just a bit better to me, especially when I was a kid.
3: Darth Vader. Of all the lightsaber wielding characters in Star Wars, he's my favorite both as a character and as an action figure. He really IS Star Wars. I know what you mean. You can show anyone even a silhouette of Vader, or just play a recording of his breathing and they know who it is. Now, that's iconic. As a figure, they did such a great job on him that they could just rerelease him on new card backs for each movie without changing the toy itself. He was perfect to start with. None of the other vinyl caped figures look quite as good as he does, partly because of the black on black look of him. The telescoping lightsaber effect looks best with him too. I remember for the longest time my friends and I debating over how much of him was machine and how much was man. He was an enigma which added to his cool factor on top of his powers and amazing voice.
2: See- Treepio (C-3PO) with removable limbs. I love both versions of him, but this one is the best because of the way you could take him apart and put him in the net that you put on Chewbacca's (who would be my #11 favorite figure) back. The playability or 'toyetic' (as the Kenner guys used to say) nature of this figure is off the charts because of this feature. I also loved how amazingly shiny he was in both of these figures designs and in the movie. So striking! Loved his voice and the way he moved and reacted to things as well. I really related to him as a kid.
1: Artoo-Detoo (R2-D2) with sensor scope. I love all of the R2-D2s and have them except for pop up lightsaber and droid factory versions. My all time favorite Star Wars character and action figure! Loved the Swiss Army Knife/toolbox/comic relief/hero nature of him. The design of the domed head has been done better in terms of being more screen accurate on newer figures, but I still love the shiny chrome look of this one, especially how it clicks when you turn it. The stickers on the body got damaged easily from getting wet, which sometimes happened, especially when I wanted to reenact Dagobah scenes, but they still looked cool. Loved being able to stick him on my finger like a finger puppet as a five year old kid. The fact that you could unscrew and take him apart through the bottom screw fascinated me too. I did that several times, pretending that he was getting repaired after an especially harrowing adventure.
Great video! I love it when you really get into these figures and talk about them in depth like this.
Had to make this video as I've never really gone over my favorites before. Glad you liked it.
I collect Star Wars figures as well. I don't have multiples of any figure, just one of each. My Top 10 are:
#10) Lando Calrissian (General Pilot)
#9) Walrusman
#8) Warok (POTF & Last 17)
#7) Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight)
#6) Boba Fett
#5) Imperial Dignitary (POTF & Last 17)
#4) Imperial Gunner (POTF & Last 17)
#3) Luke Skywalker (Battle Poncho Endor)
#2) C-3PO
#1) Yakface
We had the option of purchasing Yakface right here in Northern Ontario. Almost 40 years ago. I got him in 1991.
Solid list, man.
Great Top 10 ! Nothing better than the OG Kenner
Thanks! I agree!! 🤙🏻
Nice list! POTF R2 for the win! ;)
Thanks, Scott!
Thanks for sharing your list. :)
Those are awsome choices.
My figure list in somewhat random order:
1 Stormtrooper
2 Chewbacca
3 Obi-Wan (white)
4 Jedi Luke
5 Endor Leia
6 R2 w/ scope
7 Snaggletooth
8 skiff Lando
9 Gen. Lando
10 Boushh Leia
Honorable mentions: Squidhead, AT-ST driver, Wicket, Han Solo (small head), RA-7, DS monster :)
Gotta give the trash monster some love. :) haha
I'm in total agreement about Leia in Boushh disguise being in the movie more.
I'm nowhere near finished collect Kenner SW, but if I were only allowed ONE more figure, it would be the Stormtrooper Luke.
It would really round out my collection nicely, but I still need a Luke Skywalker in my collection. :)
Thanks for the video
You have a good list, man. Boushh is amazing to me. And yes Stormie Luke is the man!
Glad you enjoyed the video, brother!
I only collected the Empire and bounty hunter figures. Dengar and ig-88 being my favourites, also the At-At driver and Tie piot. The Empire looked bad ass.
The Empire figures all look pretty sweet. You’re right!
I felt a strong pull towards the Imperials as a kid too. ESB was an incredible film. I was able too touch all the areas of the line too some extent. But they were my must haves. 😊
Imperial Gunner too. All the kids wanted him.
Wow😮 I was super excited for this video and you didn't disappoint.... looking forward to you next one...thanks
Super happy to hear that, man!
In no particular order:
Lando in General pilot outfit…a classy figure all around and the apex Lando
EV-9D9 - movable mouth!
Zuckuss- cloth robe, cool harness, unique blaster
Imperial Gunner- so evil and cool looking
Emperor’s Royal Guard
Han in trench coat
Jedi Knight Luke
Power Droid
Barada- looks like a bruiser who’d kick butt for Jabba
Cloud Car Pilot- you only glimpse their heads in the cockpits in the film so Kenner had to fill in the blanks and he looks snazzy
Good list.
No arguments here on your list! I’m very jealous of your Taiwan Boba and that very clean X wing Luke hanging out next to him. It’s getting harder and harder to find either of those figures for a decent price, and they’re 2 of the few vintage figures I’d actually care to own.
Wish you luck securing your figures for your collection!
@@GQJedi Thank you sir! Until that time, I’ll live vicariously through your collection.
That intro was even better! Thanks for sharing your top ten. It’s hard to narrow them down as they all have a unique aspect that I love.
Glad you enjoyed the new intro to the channel!!
A great top 10 count down GQ. Funnily enough, Farm Boy Luke was one of my first figures I remember having as a kid. And he is one of the few that went missing in action from back in the day…I still need to add him back in! I appreciate you giving Wicket a shout out - the Ewoks were a big part of ROTJ and deserve props!
Glad you enjoyed the video! Luke is the man. And where would we be without the help of the Ewoks?! 👊🏻
Great list. It's awesome that so many Kenner Star Wars figures are great figures.
Yessir. Kenner did it right!
Great list, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Interesting choices. Not sure what my top 10 are, as everytime I make a list I end up with 20 or more in it. Yoda for sure we are in agreement. Fantasticly cool tiny figure, and so many accessories! When I first got Yoda, when he first came out, it was a total surprise! There was no forewarning that the figure was coming, it just happened. I remember at first doubting if it was even real or legit. I have a whole story about that day, but I remember it well even though it was 43 years ago..
Oh and the flashy new intro did not dissapoint! Getting saavy with the graphics are we?
Yoda is a must in any list in my opinion. And thanks for noticing my new opening;) Splashing some new paint. It was time.
Fantastic list. Hard to disagree with any of those choices. Luke Jedi is my personal favorite, but there is NOTHING more iconic than Luke farmboy. Cheers!
Thanks, buddy! I do love Jedi Luke. He's rad. Farmboy is classic, iconic Star Wars!
Vader, hands down. Good list!
Thanks, man!
Great channel. I've also always had a serious connection to the first Darth Vader figure. I remember crying when my mother wouldn't buy it for me, but in the end she did. I think it cost $3 or maybe $5.
Thanks, Peter!! Darth Vader is a must for any child...or collector. Amen!
Like you said they're Kenner and they're all cool. Farmboy Luke is probably my favorite too. He is Star Wars in every one of my friends when I was six years old when Star Wars came out everybody had farmboy Luke. C-3PO and R2-D2 and that Jawa soft good are awesome. So many great ones. I always remembered Han and Leia chewy they're all so great and their Kenner
Kenner did a great job representing what we saw in the films. I consider them to be the greatest toy company.
Good list! Small head Han Solo would definitely be on my list. I love the bent arm sculpt and he was one of the first figures I got. (My brother already had the Early Bird pack)
Early Bird Set! That’s beyond cool. That’s awesome! Wish I had that tray set up and everything.
Hammerhead was always a favorite.
Classic choice 👍🏻
Love the new intro.
Thanks, mate! It was time to splash some fresh paint on the channel.
Great collection
Thank you.
Love your list fully agree with them although if I were to do one for myself I would have to have Bossk somewhere near the top of the list. Despite his very limited screen time from the moment he first appears on screen he fascinated me, with his reptilian look. He just looked evil and scary and I loved it.
Bossk is a great character/figure. I totally get the appeal for him. No doubt!
Hi mate great choices! I was expecting Boba to be #1 so that was a refreshing change. It's so hard to choose a top ten from such a great selection eh?
I wouldn't disagree with any of the figures you've chosen... If you had said General Madine or Carbonite Han maybe I would have worried a bit😉but even if that was the case, everyone deserves their own preference.
Too hard to rank them but generally I prefer the figures that are the least "human" looking, so IG-88, Hammerhead, Chewie, Squid Head, lovely shiny C3PO, Bossk, Boushh, Vader, etc. would have to be on my list, however my go-to guys as a kid were Bespin Luke and Han... I just don't know! Boba Fett is definitely #1 for me though (predictably). As Peter Griffin said-" No matter the stakes, I never risk the Fett man"
Hey there! It's really hard to choose. Too many dang good options, which is a great thing. Fett rocks!
Looks like you have a lemon yellow Luke Farmboy there.
I'm not too familiar with all the different "shades" of farmboys. But if that's what I have, that's cool to know.
there was a lots O details on the 83s. seemed so different from Empire pretty quick. unless it was released in the comb over between films.
like hoth luke. he seemed really detailed and different in between them. that yoda is my favorite. the kenner power of the force yoda 97? is the only one that comes close. so many yodas released and they arent as strong to me as the 80s version.
Kenner really hit their stride when they got around to the ROTJ line of figures.
Jesus Christ you guys, do I have to say anything else? He's Boba freakin' Fett.
Couldn't have said it any better myself. This was a fun video. Always nice hearing about people's favorite figures & why.
Thanks for sharing your top 10! Think there will be a bottom 10 video to partner with this? ❓
It's a tie for me between Farm Boy Luke & X-Wing Pilot Luke. But regardless, you can't beat vintage Kenner SW. Until next time GW.
There could be a Top 10 Worst figures video but I think I did one of these videos a long time ago. Still…could do an updated one.
I wish hasbro would do some of the prequel characters in the kenner style
That's something I've never heard anyone say. That would be kind of cool.
I have luke in stormtrooper disguise also from Kenner but sadly a have lost the helmet ( its a big bummer)
Hope you can find another bucket for Luke.
@@GQJedi I have a luke stormtrooper disguise from later Star Wars action figure line after the Kenner vintage luke stormtrooper disguise it was whit a separate part where where you couldt build a space stormtrooper dont now annymore what the name of that line was it included also Han Solo stormtrooper disguise.
GQJ should i get the hasbro retro collection , they are less expensive, i do own some of the original jedi figures .but its hard to get the original luke and ben kenobi ?
I don't collect any modern. That's a question only you can answer for yourself, if you want original Kenner or modern Hasbro copies. The vintage Kenner is out there in the wild. You can definitely find Luke & Ben. You just have to look. I suggest digging around on the Facebook Star Wars groups. Best of luck whatever you decide to do!
I order them according to action and beauty. My list. 1. Luke Bespin, first one, Empire card, 2. Stormtrooper Hoth, Empire, 3. C-3PO, Star Wars, 4. TIE Fighter Pilot, Empire. 5. Sandpeople, Star Wars, 6. Rebel Soldier Hoth, Empire, 7. AT-AT Driver, Empire, 8. Biker Scout, Jedi, 9. Dengar, Empire. 10. AT-AT Commander, Empire. I once had all except for Bespin Luke. He must have been a top sold I beleive. By the way, the list is not enough for a top 10. Stromtrooper Star Wars and Luke Tatooine Star Wars should also have been included.
Lots to choose from! Making a list is difficult.
Very good choices and video. I grew up with Star Wars like so many others of my generation, although my connection with it stops at Return of the Jedi. I love the figures and playsets very much. BTW- my name is Mark Boudreau, and I just found out recently that was the name of the designer of many Kenner SW products, although I believe he puts an X on the end of his name, whereas I don't. I was floored!
Hi Mark! Yes, the designer was responsible for many things like the Falcon. We are lucky to have him create so many awesome things.
Do you know, did the Luke Skywalker Jedi figure come with a green and blue lightsaber both? I see yours has a green one, but mine came with a blue, and I got it back in 1983 new.@@GQJedi
Jedi Luke was packaged with a blue and a green saber, just depends on which one you got.
Why is your hair so GOOD
LOL
100% Yub Nub, I love the Ewoks
Glad to see the Ewoks get some love!
This (superb) video is of course about YOUR top 10. Do you want viewers to list their own personal top 10 ( regardless of reasoning ) or is it just going to clog up the comments? I don't wanna flood your comments section, if you'd rather viewers not do so. Peace out GQ
Thanks for the kind words! As you've beautifully stated, time is a factor, so reading everyone's top 10 list would take a bit. LOL. But generally interested in if people agreed or disagreed with my list. Any standout points to make ? :)
@@GQJedi keeping it on point, with regards to your request, RotJ really started hitting those notes perfectly, although my personal favourites would probably come from the ESB line, but maybe my choices would be biased because of the movie itself. The RotJ(onwards?) line definitely gave me the most excitement, upon seeing them arrive in the shops. Kenner really had started paying particular attention to details, although a little late sadly by then. There was so much more they could have released, but it was obviously not financially viable at that point perhaps ? I won't give you my top 10, but my No.1 will always be Bespin Luke, just because the back half of Empire (and Luke in particular) is all that stands for Star Wars in my own universe haha :P - Hey with regards to Kenner's releases, I have to say that your Stan Solo ( et al ) release videos are the ones that i love the most, as they show what COULD have been. Stan Solo and all the others are truly keeping that vibe alive, i love watching everything you release about that stuff ! :)
ESB is the best of the 3 movies. No doubt. Bespin Luke is a great choice. I know he makes it on quite a number of lists. I get why :)
@@GQJedi have to say, the General Lando is freaking amazing, really accurate and you're 100% spot on about the soft goods on him in particular. Would be in my top 10 for sure. As an aside, I would like to point out that I really love the way you are filming this. Introducing a figure (not by name) whilst filming many other figures around it, before suddenly focussing in on the slotted figure at the last moment is a really great, fun way of doing this. Kudos to you for somehow creating a little suspense in a Top 10 video, it's genuinely appreciated :)
Glad you enjoyed my take on this style of video. Cheers!
bad list i love them ..i must say on my top ten i wouild add on mine jedi luke ,,,,,
Thanks, Warren. Jedi Luke almost made my list.
