  • How to Reset a Dodge Transmission Control Module. In this video you will learn how to reset your Dodge TCM step by step using any of the three resetting methods.
Learn the 3 Methods to Reset a Dodge Transmission Control Module (TCM)
This video teaches you how to reset the transmission control module (TCM) on Dodge vehicles using three different methods - the pedal dance, battery disconnect, and OBD2 scanner. Read on to understand what a TCM is, why a reset may be necessary, and how each approach works to refresh the component.
The TCM, which can also be referred to as the transmission control unit or transmission computer, is essentially the brains behind an automatic transmission system. It is composed of computer chips that store data and help optimize gear shifting. Over time, the accumulation of data can cause transmission problems if the TCM becomes overloaded or develops faults. Resetting it clears out old shifting patterns and allows it to relearn appropriate parameters based on current driving style.
Resetting your Dodge TCM using one of these methods can resolve various symptoms like harsh gear changes, delayed engagement, trouble codes triggering the check engine light, and reduced fuel mileage. These procedures essentially reboot the transmission computer and give it a fresh start. The easiest approach is the pedal dance method which involves pressing and releasing the gas pedal to trigger a reset. Disconnecting the battery is also simple and forces all computers to restart by removing and restoring power. For the most robust reset, an OBD2 scanner clears codes, monitors data, and directly commands a Keep Alive Memory reset.
By following one of the demonstrated procedures to reset your Dodge Ram, Challenger, Charger or other model's TCM, you may be able to restore smooth automatic transmission functionality.
This simple maintenance task costs nothing and is worth trying before resorting to costly transmission repairs or replacements. Watch to understand what a transmission control module is, how to tell when a TCM reset is required based on certain symptoms, and how to execute the pedal dance, battery disconnect, or scanner reset from start to finish. Learn to improve transmission performance in your Dodge vehicle.

The dodge journey 2016 I have with R/T whatever that means. It’s a v6 .3.6 variant and it has a negative post on the shock wall and the positive has like 3 different wires stacked on top each on the post.

I just did a same engine,3.5 to 3.5 swap. Used the new engine wiring harness as it looked fine. Now it has transmission issues it didn't have before(undrivable), thinking fluid was low, I added two quarts of fluid, can that be the issue? I also have a hand ful of transmission codes.

I’m not a mechanic but when my trans was leaking I always had to be within .5 of a pint or less , otherwise it would tweak I had also bought a dipstick cause my car doesn’t have one. Changing the fluid might be worth a try I would get a new filter as well, my cars a dodge charger and it takes 7 pint I only added 5 because i only got 5 out of it there will be some you can’t get

That code can be triggered by a bad battery cell which will stop you from starting the vehicle. Try jump starting the vehicle or replacing the battery.

Isn't that harsh on the engine with it running to hold the floor pedal down for 10 to 15 seconds

The engine should be on "On" also known as accessory mode not running

@@HonestMechanicChannel You need to fix your instructions! LOL! In the video, the engine is running when you say to hold the accelerator down for 10-15 seconds. 😲🤣
