Iron Maiden is a History themed band. Most albums jump around to different moments in History...
yes they should be played in schools and listened by children only
Most of the songs by Iron Maiden were named after films that Steve Harris and Bruce Dickinson watched when he was grown up there are a lot of songs which are based on old World War II British classics and horror classics like where Eagles Dare and a matter of life and death and of course of the wicker man.
In this case I have to agree with Judson though, it feels weird hearing Iron Maiden from Native American prospective. I mean, something like Empire of the Skies feels more authentic.
They're like the OGs before Sabaton focused in on that aspect
I had this played at my wedding, when this had just come out, and it was the first time my family had seen me headbanging. I got asked if i was on drugs several times that night!
I love that first Iron Maiden song you played on this video!
Watt is Love? Baby, Don't Hertz Me! Don't Hertz Me! Ohm's Law..
Perfect moment to Rick Roll.....
Just wanted to say, Judson's piano noodles and covers at your intros are so great.
Maiden had practically zero radio airplay (I got into them in 83. Lived in a huge radio market and the only time they got any airplay at all was on a local station's metal shop Saturdays at midnight a few years before other markets started doing it). The metal magazines always raved about how their albums sold so many copies and they sold out arenas when radio stations deliberately avoided them.
I was hearing a dramatic slowed down version of Radiohead - Street Spirit in the intro haha
Most of Maiden songs are narrative, immersive cinematic stories about stories and history. In 'Run to the Hills', the story is told from both the perspectives of the indians and the settlers. I love your channel, hello from Spain!
Jajjajaja that intro! 😂 Nice reactions greetings from Chile 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Gotta love that "What is Love" intro! One of the best songs ever writen!🤣🤘❤🤟👌
Let me help you here. Maiden never got any radio airplay, simple (except on dedicated hard rock and metal brodcasts)
Whatever is written and known about the atrocities committed against the Native Americans , you can be sure of one thing …it was worse
There's no such thing as migration here - let's call it what it is, it's pure and simple appropriation. Something like what Hitler called "creating living space".
Brilliant haha I needed that! Love you guys
That was a good chaotic video! Random dance tracks, interlopers, it's all good.
Clive's drumming on the first three albums changed me as a drummer. All love to Nikko the single bass king and one of my idols, but Clive and Steve working together is IMO where the Iron Maiden gallop comes from.
I have seen Iron Maiden seven times and yesterday I saw Bruce Dickinson's solo band first time. I have had a difficult time in my life last six months (divorce and all kind of crap) and I have been really passive and haven't enjoyed life too much and I was so sure that first time EVEN live music or EVEN the best band's lead singer can't lift my mood up. But oh boy how I was wrong. I should never have doubt power of music, power of live music, power of Iron Maiden nor power of Bruce Dickinson. Today I feel a much better. Thanks to music and especially thanks to Iron Maiden and Bruce, saved me many times and keeps me going. Of course I have many favorite bands and genders but Maiden and Bruce's music stayed longest and is the most beloved to me. ❤ Amazing concert yesterday! ❤
You should check out Bruce's solo albums, plenty of great heavy metal classics! Btw, I like to watch your reaction videos, you seem to be really nice guys and energy between you is pure 😊 best wishes to you from Finland! 😊
don't worry mate it all be fine if you keep a positive atittude..also you will sooner or later realise that the divorce was a blessing in disguise.
Up the Irons dude, feel ya was feelin the worst, im terminal months weeks who knows. I was pretty depressed listening tonite I'll be danged if they didn't pull me out. Shoulda known, we got to remember they're gonna pull us out
Super fan since 80's.
I totally understand and respect Judson's points of view.Maiden does a lot of songs about history and war,so I kind of disagree with him saying they did it for popularity. It's a thing they do a lot!Maybe you should play Paschendale to him next. That song catches the dramatic and the horrors of war way better musically then this one.I also always thought that Run to the Hills has a far to 'happy' sounds for lyrics like that.Btw...playing that stupid pop song in the beginning was epic, loved it! Stay heavy & UP THE IRONS!!! 🤘😉
Their best new era song
they did it because the record label told them so
@@brucedickinson12I prefer Brave New World o The Longest Day.
You nailed it Judson. Nice ending commentary. A smart person sat me down and explained history to me when I was cranking this song as a young kid. I still rock to Maiden once in a while, but it's good to know your history. Never felt proud till now to be a sub. Love what you two do!
Thank you so much for the kind words and hanging out with us!
Thank you for being so sincere about the topic of this Classic rock song. Don’t be insecure about your reaction, after all is your opinion about that historic event.
Everything is about you point of view, or how you were affected or benefited.
I went to Mexico 20 years ago to the Maya territory to know about that culture and was almost the same situation in different area.
The Maya was an EMPIRE right? at the same time THE AZTEC so the small civilizations between them were almost extinguished.
The Maya’s struggled and battled themselves for power
So when the Spaniard came to America they did the same…..to Conquer and kill millions of people like many others did before and after.
Everyone has their own history, tales, stories, legends about any war, invasion.
You could choose the red pill or the blue pill.
You have to Congratulate yourself, keep your mind out of the controversial lyrics.
Given Judson's reaponse, I would recommend "Trail of Tears" by Testament.
Thank you for your authenticity. Keeps me coming back.
😂😂😂😂😂 It s a prank....... what Is love ?????You great Richard saluti dall' ITALIA🇮🇹⚽,IRON MAIDEN .......run to the hills is iconic song
the DunDunDunnnnnn gave it away,
and Hadaway had me doing the Night at the Roxbury sideways head bob.
Cool song, great album! The Beast over Hammersmith live concert from 1982 is awesome & essential. Bruce's voice during that concert is incredible! Also, check out Scott Lavender's 2005 cd, The Piano Tribute to Iron Maiden, this is one of the songs on his cd.
cool reaction 😃👍✌️
first hear it 1982 on the radio 😃
should have Rick rolled him on that intro....
great vid. great song. thx guys.
Dude we are too serious in the metal community
Iron Maiden is just History in fkn bang-on Mode Activated!!!🤘❤🤟
There was no metal radio in Oklahoma (where I grew up) in the 80's. Hell, it was to hard to even find a heavy metal magazine. It was pretty much all word of mouth and tape trading as far as finding out about metal bands.
FYI: The verses actually alternate perspective from the natives to the colonials
Classic song by Iron Maiden unfortunately they never played it live when I saw them in 2010 but I’m sure they do sometimes.
Hey Peter☺️ If that interruption isnt youngest sibling energy, i dunno what is. “Can yall stop whatcha doin so i can just…”
Happy song. It´s in major.
Have a lovely weekend you wonderful people
Judson doesn't know What Is Love? either?! Dang! We need some Eurodance and Eurobeat up in here! Some of my favorite 90s music, it's so FUN.
First verse is the Natives POV telling the Europeans to run
Second verse is reverse
Loved the surprise encounter with Haddaway!
🤣🤣 awesome beginning on this
It's funny and interesting that Judson was uncomfortable with the clean operatic voice of Bruce Dickinson over metal riffs, and now would prefer death metal growls. I know a few metal heads that are kind of similar, and who are only engaged by very heavy growls or vocals similar to Max Cavalera. I learned to love both but Judson almost saw it here, it's like different music genres. Power Metal (like Rhapsody, Stratovarius, etc. who absolutely inherited a lot from early Iron Maiden !) would be a nice path to explore too, then :)
Rock in Rio 2001 is the best live version of Run to the Hills imo, specifically from the channel Calamar Plancha. The crowd singalong noise is absolutely insane!!
I kind of agree about the vocal mismatch with the music (I prefer the Paul Di'Anno vocals and Bruce's first couple of albums before he went off the rails and tried to be a prog singer), but I think it's always better to hear the studio version of a song first. You hear all the nuances, and get the closest to what the band wants to convey.
fucking love the haddaway fakeout let's go! BOPPING
Run to the measures!
That was great 😂😂
"We WILL get into the Roxbury"
My grandpa Joe Toahty was the first American Indian to step foot on Japanese occupied territory in WW2 GUADALCANAL August 7th 1942
Duh, everyone knows this
On Live After Death, it sounds just as good. Also it's exploring one aspect. Just like today you have to consider each individual situation that happened. Every relationship
I love Iron Maiden and I ALSO love that great shuffle dance song.
i thought it was hells bells at first and then the tail of the riff confirmed it 😂
👍🤟
Got em 😂
Many reactors tend to do the same songs from Maiden. There are tons of cool songs they've done, many ignored. For example, "Strange World" on their self-titled album Iron Maiden. I recommend the studio version. Yes, it's raw . . . the sound isn't great. I think the latest remaster is from 2015.
Judson may or may not like it, but at least it's different . . . has an interesting theme, too, which I think Judson may appreciate.
Thanks!
Haddaway is a german Singer.
Great style in the early 90th.
Would love to see yall get around to Alter Bridge! Their concert at the royal Albert hall with an orchestra is everything. Blackbird is their masterpiece, Words Darker may even be the best vocal performance I’ve heard ever.
Since Judson likes it when the music mirrors lyrical content of the song, a great example that does just that is Victim of Changes by Judas Priest. And it's about addiction, so double whammy. #suggestion
HELL YEAH WE GOT RICK ROLLED❤ THANK YOU MAN 😂😂😂
Interestingly and coincidentally, that take on Hell’s Bells first made me think of Maiden’s song Death of the Celts.
I first thought it was Children of Bodom. )))
I love Maiden, have since I was a kid. But, I never LOVED this song... it's fine, but kinda boring in my opinion. They have so many other songs that are way better, I just find this one more "accessible" I guess. Also, you gotta check out the new Black Dahlia Murder song with Brian on the vocals, it's surprisingly good and actually pretty reminiscent of Trevor's vocals from Unhallowed.
I initially thought that piano intro was Radiohead - Street Spirit (fade out)
Just thought you would realize ör mention the double perspective of the lyrics,
No, you're right. Hallowed by thy name is from NotB. Awesome trolling btw!
I understand Judson's point of view. It is a complicated matter. A ver gray area. Anyway. Maybe you could try Phantom of the opera for the next one or Running Free? Be well. Love your work.
Two suggestions: WINTERSUN and Rusty Cooley's OUTWORLD, two incredible bands.
Completely off-topic.
Near the end of this reaction, TH-cam ran a commercial advertising Stone Temple Pilots appearing/performing at the Ohio State Fair in July 2024.
In my mid-20s is when Grunge hit the scene and Stone Temple Pilots was one of the best, with Scott at the helm.
If Scott was alive today, I wonder if Stone Temple Pilots would be performing at state fair’s.
Arena’s to state fair’s.
Things that make me say, Hmmm …..
You need to do LOVEBITES "Swan Song" with Chopin piano intro. It's here on TH-cam. Live from Zepp DiverCity Tokyo 2020.
Gonna be honest here for a few seconds I thought that intro was Street Spirit by Radiohead. Quite similar.
I love Radiohead intro lol
Finally AC/DC
Sounds like Fade out Radiohead but more fast
Classic Banger! Then do Frayed Ends of Sanity 🙏🏼 bAbY DoN't HuRt Mə
"Don't take yourself too seriously"
- Richard.
RIP Clive Burr.
Always do studio versions before live versions.
Just an opinion.
You guys can be first on Iron Maiden - The Talisman
Definitely not the only time a whole people were wiped out. Look up the Ainu of Japan, for example.
I think it's all about the intent of what Maiden was expressing. I don't they were trying to right the wrongs of the past, if you listen to the first track of the album it's about Norsemen attacking England and the blood bath that took place. It is an expression of storytelling (wherever the truth is exactly who knows). Anyways it's also meant to be enjoyed and probably not to analyze the lyrics too much, it's kind of campy especially the video.
'Native Blood' by Testament might be worth a look from a anti-colonial point of view. Great story video to accompany the tune.
Isn't that Street Spirit by Radiohead instead of Hells Bells?
They are very similar
Why does hells bells, played at that pace, sound like Street Spirit by Radiohead?
The Best Heavy Metal Album 💿 of ALL Time & You Richard picked the least best song on the Album , Flog yourself 50 times on your own back , until your alive in Spirt Again ! Did I say Please make this right ! (Hallowed Be Thy Name) , The Prisoner, Invaders , 22 Acacia Avenue , I’ve Got the Fire 🔥,,, Remake of Jethro Tulls Crossed Eyed Mary ! You pissed in my Corn Flakes this morning & I already have a headache! Bruce Dickinsons solo albums lyrically melodically will raise the dead 😵 , Accident of Birth ,, Chemical Wedding Day ,,,, Balls To Picasso ,,, etc ….. INERTIA…… ???? lol 😆
Yeah but even their worst is still pretty kick ass.
Just sayin.
It would be more interesting if he reacted to the entire album A Matter Of Life And Death, which is an album that talks much more in depth about war and current human crises.
This song does not name Americans per se. It's more of a generalization of the white man going so far as to "exterminate" the Native Americans. There is no reason to feel attacked, you as Americans, by Iron Maiden.
My first Iron Maiden song was 'Aces High"
I do need to add a small correction.. You said the song was written from the perspective of the Native Americans. Only the first verse was from their perspective.. the rest of the song is written from the perspective of the European Americans. It describes various ways that the white men fought against them.. dirty tactics and all. It paints the white man as merciless and ruthless while the white man justifies his actions.
Anyway just had to point that out. ;) Feel free to slap me down for it.. but my brain was screaming at me to say it.
🤣🤣🤣
Close but um...
Haahaa
I agree Iron Maiden are TECHNICALLY not heavy metal. Sabbath is heavy blues, Priest is technically the first metal band. Chugging = Metal.
If you want some north American Europeans nodding to Natives I'd suggest Agalloch's And the Great Cold death of the Earth.
"Earth is floating on the waters like an island,
Hanging from four rawhide ropes
Fastened at the top of the Sacred four directions.
The ropes are tied to the ceiling of the sky,
When the ropes break, this world will come
Tumbling down and all living things will fall with it and die. . ."
"We" didn't do shit. The gov't did.
How do you not know which live version to play, Richard?? Anything off of Live After Death (1984 World Slavery Tour) And you call yourself a metal head 🤔
If you are going to go old school, do your research first..
It's so frustrating watching your awkward attempts at explaining the history of the old bands and their songs to Judson.. It's so cringe to those of us who lived through that amazing time in metal.. I know I shouldn't feel that way, but I do, sorry!
You guys are still the best thing on TH-cam! Your prank on Judson was pure Gold!!! 🤟🥇🤟
11:10 Judson, you should listen to or read Thomas Sowell . Liberal rhetoric, nowadays, is very reductionist and misleading. More events happen both sides, positive and negative… not only from one side.
pop song dressed as heavy metal
100%
That's Maiden in a nutshell, AC DC too hahhaha
@@leomahmet7555 acdc the one hit wonder one riff one chorus structure
No it's pure heavy metal
Absolutely.
Fake pianist 😂
also, the pre-contact indiginous population of what is now the US was around 2 million.
there are now around 10 million.
just sayin'
What was the population of european settlers pre contact, compared to now?
@@timpyle3435 irrelevant, unless you can do the math to exclude subsequent waves of migration.
So you are defending genocide because their population recovered? Weird flex but you do you. I also highly doubt that 10 million number are 100% ethnically pure, probably far less are direct descendants.
Yeah they were hardly genocided at all, barely. Look at them now, they are flourishing on their reservations.
@@jonnyguitar747 only 1/8 live on reservations, and nobody forces them to. but don't let me spoil your narrative.
Love maiden but hate this song
hate both this song and the band
@@naturalianoss and ?
Song def doesn’t hold up to me anymore…and neither does Maiden… not sure why though cuz I sure was into them in my teenage years in the mid-80’s..
@@dubkjay because their music is monotonous and not necessarily in the songwriting but in the sound..same drums same bass same guitar style same story telling approach.Same formula gets boring
