@@gardenphoto I'm a classical pianist myself (that is the very reason I go see videos like this). But for the issue here, I do respect this audience, 20 minutes they sit in silence and listen attentively this great sonata by Beethoven and (needless to say) Brendel's great interpretation of it. For me personally that "before time" applaude doesn't "spoil" anything whatsoever

my 1st vinyl 45 years ago was Appasionata, Mondschein and Pathetique with Brendel, he will always be my inspiration for the classics!

I heard Brendel many times in concert. Always appreciated his excellent preparation and businesslike stage presence. With him it was always about the music.
I am sorry to disagree, but to me Brendel is all about Brendel and not Beethoven (or anyone else). I can't watch him and his affected body language. Listening without is a bit better. But in the first two movements here he seems--to me--to miss completely the pathos of the piece. He's a bit better in the 3rd and 4th sections.
I meant listening without watching him is a bit better.
No worries. Happy to disagree. My comment was actually more about his preparation and stage presence than the specific merits of this Op. 110 performance.@@jamesnickoloff6692

The right hand - left hand exchange in the opening descending arpeggios is a wonderful idea I hadn’t thought of.
Get yourself a good edition like Tovey. He breaks the hands, which makes so much sense.

Prefiro claramente a interpretação de Barenboim. Esta peça é , a meu ver, de tal modo moderna que pede uma atitude mais ousada....

Der dumme Alfred denkt mittelmässig, mittelscharfe Senf, .... in einem Wort : Zeitvelurst für den Zuhörer.
