I’m a San Francisco native born and raised in the Mission District and the fact that they only ate at Restaurants that are own by people who are not natives to the Mission (white people that came from other parts which cause our *Latino, Black, Asian, Pacific Islander, Muslim* folks to he kicked out from the Mission due to gentrification) instead of actually go eat and experience the culture of the Mission. It was so misrepresented in this video it makes so upset for the folks that make the culture of our hood

    • @oceandrew
      @oceandrew 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Alexis, it's very clear from the title that the video is NOT about San Francisco or even foods typical of San Francisco... it's about fried chicken and other items that are NOT native to the city. I mean it's like reading a Louis L'Amour book and complaining it wasn't a steamy novel.

    • @j.b.5230

People are gonna read this and have no clue what's going on in SF or here in the Mission. Like people don't understand gentrification here, when my family came to SF it was 14% black. Now most blacks have been pushed out and it's 4% black. Most black eateries and businesses are *gone*, entire black communities pushed out. People from some mid sized city/a town/bumfuck nowhere, etc.... Won't understand how it happened or why it's happening to other people

She's one of these girls that craves attention more than food, and uses food to get attention for being skinny. It appears she deliberately stays thin for the attention she craves. She acts like she possesses a craving for food, or maybe she's showing off that she has expensive "taste." She'd probably never wear a pair of jeans under $750.00, nor would she ever stoop to the level of eating a slice of Domino's pizza. She seems arrogant, elitist and privileged...the kind of woman who smiles at you not because she wants you to like her, but because she needs you to be jealously envious of her.

In fact, she appears as if she avoids eating for the most part, you end up wondering if she has an eating or exercise disorder. It's like she mocking the viewer like, "Haha look at me eating all this food when I've obviously transcended my appetite and keep it amazingly in check by drinking water and eating apples for the most part everyday."

Wow. I live in San Francisco. I hope someday I meet your friend, that we get into the same circuit, and I can also have such artistic introductions to food. It isn't normally that exciting eating with my friends even though _I_ do think that way. It's OK that most don't but what fun it would be to be around someone that loved food like I do. I suspect I would be finding a kindred spirit. Wouldn't that be amazing?
Normally my public artistic impulses are in constructing and in casting jewelry, but you know my heart loves food.
Still, I'm not entirely sure. Crystal hot sauce is such a New Orleans thing but it isn't my fave, I like it, but I like other things more. That doesn't at all mean that the New Orleans taste is anathema to me, there is tons of New Orleans food that is just perfect for me. What I would most love is a vinegar salsa, something like Cholulu with a bit more spice. (Maybe a lot more spice.) Crystal just seems a little bit boring and perfumy to me. I also love fermented salsas like sriracha. It's SO much more complex and fermented sauces bring such health benefits.
So. I eat at Brendas sometimes. They are literally yards from where I live, but for my taste, if I had my druthers, I would change things. I'm not against New Orleans cooking by any means, but if I could I would shift it toward different New Orleans food a bit. I want something a little more simple. Still New Orleans, but a simpler version. I've had it there, it's also normal part of New Orleans cuisine, and I would totes love to walk around the corner and have it here. Love you Brenda's, but just saying. My food aesthetic does exist in New Orleans. I love your food, but I'm always left wishing for a little _less_ notes. Something like red beans and rice you'd have in somebodies back yard drinking a beer.

    People in the comments:
If you happen to be in or live in sf, PLEASE SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES THAT HAVE BEEN HERE FOR YEARS AND YEARS! These pretentious new businesses are part of the root cause for why gentrification is a big issue in our city and affects stuff like the overpriced rent.

The fried chicken there is pretty good. But the best fried chicken in SF used to be Pioneer Chicken, from the 1980's. Wish somebody would revive it, at least up here in SF, as I avoid the L.A. heat and smog like the plague. (the people there are nice though)

“Best” is up to ones interpretation. I appreciate the series, but my best is completely different. I am happy for more food driven net shown rather than waiting on one cooking reality competition show a couple bourse a week on tv.

First off it's a dan tat not an egg tart. And the best fried chicken is at San Tung in Sunset. And if you guys are reading this and looking for some actual good spots that aren't just overpriced hipster garbage you want to go to Saigon Sandwich, Hai Ky, Sai Jai Thai (and anywhere else in the TL), El Farolito, etc. Also a shout out to El Techo, even though it's expensive it's still bomb mexican food with an amazing view.

The $8 toast is pretty controversial here. Most people see it as a symbol of gentrification. These places mainly appeal to tourists and rich yuppie transplants.

Now think of the title says “best fried dog” in frisco? See the connection? Flesh IS FLESH regardless of its owner. It’s all
The same species, tortured, slaughtered, hacked apart, guts ripped out, veins ripped out, bones removed, blood drained, flesh hack off then dipped in batter and fried and eaten.. same species, different animal.

You really need to hit up Theresa and Johnny’s in Marin County CA (right across the Golden Gate Bridge. Best comfort food and coolest place you will ever eat! Also Feng Yangs is so good for the best Chinese food in Sausalito CA (Across from Mill Valley CA) and if you want a great and classic place to eat, I would hit up the Spinnakers also in Sausalito CA, but you can be dressed up or down. They have some of the best seafood and the views are truly outstanding! A great dessert place is Sweet-things in Strawberry for cookies, cakes, etc... but for ice cream, I would go with Three Twins in Larksper Landing. These are all over the Golden Gate Bridge and at the most 20 minutes apart. Hope this is helpful

Here we go again! 5:44 "...teach the Bay Area what really good southern food should taste like..." With all do respect, there have been Many southern food places here that have come and gone.
Owners passing away and their children not wanting to continue the business, retirements and gentrification to name a few reasons. Ya sounded kinda arrogant to me...maybe that was not your intent. Oakland Cali native with 40 plus years here....

When you want real fried chicken, come see us in the south. As far as the rest of this, I'm... Not sure what I'd think about the rest of the food.
Edit: I stand corrected. When in New Orleans, you dine like a king.
