  • The C32 AMG was a pleasant surprise for me, and a fun sleeper alternative to other six cylinder performance cars at its price point. With this C55 AMG though, the ante is upped to the level you would more typically expect from a Mercedes AMG - big V8, effortless torque, and a penchant for eating rear tyres. But since this is an early 2000's Benz, the price still doesn't break the bank.
That being said, its not without its issues, a glaring one for me being the amount of steering dead zone, at least on this particular car. So let's take a deeper look at the W203 generation Mercedes-Benz C55 AMG...

My C55 as not the steering problem you describe. It give, on the contrary, a feeling much sharper than other classic W203 i drove before (i owned a 200 K for 8 years befor the C55). It might be a recurrent problem but it's not standard based on my experience.
I'm very found of that car, i like the torky feeling very much, and it's actually the family car, the one we use for weekend or holidays. It travels France very easily, and we're not tired when we arrive !
By the way, i do also own a 92 Clio 16V for the fun, one of the best 90's hot hatch... 😋

Hi from Western Australia, nice work mate. Love these and the ml55. Couldn’t find a decent one here , quite rare. Ended up stretching for a 2007 ml63, did the exhaust and ecu and transmission tune. Wow, it moves. Cheers

Ey nice, I'm yet to feature an ML63 but certainly look forward to it

The C55 in this video has worn steering components if it's not tight. In Comfort mode in my 2006 C55 AMG, the steering is super tight and super precise. In Sport mode, it makes it even tighter and heavy feeling, like a track car. If you're doesn't feel this way, it's just due to wear and tear and needs to have it's bits serviced. Cheers!

Could be, it shares the same steering deadzone and floaty feel with the ML55 which I also drove from the same era though.

You're right, I also think that 2000's Mercedes' interiors seem very tacky, as well as the other Daimler chrysler products, just look at a 2000's dodge charger interior

How would it be in snow

Could get slippery if you push too far for sure, with RWD and that kind of V8 torque, but with traction control and appropriate driving I wouldn't imagine it should be too bad. Be curious to hear from an owner if that stacks up in practice though

    I have a C32 and I’m 37 …. Should I buy a C55 aswell? I look forward to your reply… because I’ll quote it to my wife 😂

Go for it, haha. Obviously a test drive would be in order since their personalities are quite different. The C55 is less playful in my opinion, but has more of a muscle car feel

@@beardsncars you need to rev the c55 out. It doesn't really come alive until 5000 rpm with red-line at 6800rpm.
I bet you didn't drive it in a manner to get performance out. Turn in is also fantastic and really driver oriented.
Thing is you can waft along in the C55 but it can also be pushed hard and is quite different to the supercharged v8.
It is not all torque. Max torque comes at 5000rpm but max hp comes above 6000rpm.
Saw you e55 review. Lovely car but quite different. E55 w210 is much more of a cruiser and the engine was tuned for more and lower down torque/less hp. C55 is more of a drivers car with engine tuned to rev hard.
Don't believe me see my car on autotopnl :)

Its possible, but the same thing was present in the ML55 when I drove that too. Very wide dead zone on the steering wheel before any actual turning response, like you'd expect more from one of the classic American boats I drive
