I love how deep their relationship was. And the curse. She kept saying she hated him so he’ll live! I was crying. Their relationship really was full of love! I never had a regret with these two.
It's pretty damn sad, there entire immortal lives, they were cursed to kill the people they loved. Zeref went mad, closing himself off completely and deciding that it was better to hate the entire world than see it suffer because of his uncontrollable curse. Mavis on the other hand, couldn't close herself off, she cared to deeply for the people she helped raise and guild she started. So she went to the only person who could possibly kill her, Zeref and for the first time he opened his heart again and she died as a result. When Zeref didn't die, he assumed Mavis never loved him, but the truth was harder to understand. Mavis loved Zeref deeply and didn't want to see him die, so she closed herself off at the last moments. But Mavis didn't fully die, instead she was sealed away as fairy heart. Zeref learned of this and decided to either die trying to destroy everything, or destroy everything and finally be free of the curse that kills whatever he cares about. Mavis learning that the only way he'd stop is if he finally died finally resigned herself, she loved him, she knew she loved him, but she didn't want him to die. But the pain both of them went through had just finally been enough, it was just finally time for both of them to rest and confess themselves to one another. What they're talking about in the end, the origin of magic, which is love. Was quite literal, they used that magic to reincarnate themselves and provide a destiny of where they'd meet and fall in love all over again. As a slight spoiler after this, they are briefly seen meeting eachother for the first time again at a Fairy Tail party for Lucy's new book. After this, they are never mentioned again and they never appear again. The other guild members who recognize them, don't approach them and don't try and help them with anything. Leaving them to their own lives and allowing the two's relationship to start. Even when they started the new series, they've yet to show or mention anything about the two. So it's just assumed they started dating and will probably get married in the future, but it's no longer important to the story.

It's really sad that Zeref lived for more than 400 years, and he made so many demons just for them to kill him, but little did he know Mavis is the one who can kill him
Nelson V zeref doesnt have the curse but when he keep finding a way for natsu to live the god cursed him to never age and die thats why zeref created demons in attempt to kill himself but it didnt work thats why he created END eternal natsu dragneel zeref even said that he made the one who can kill him and hid brother natsu will also live see now
I’m so happy that in the end, zeref and mavis died happy and loving each other, it was truly the best and only way to end this series. I cried so hard, these were two of my favorite characters.
Imagine loving someone that much, imagine being loved so much. Zeref and Mavis really are what Fairy Tail is all about. Just love, the good and the bad
I really loved Mavis and for a time I really hated Zeref but right now after watching the whole episode I don't know how to feel with him. I am really gonna miss Mavis and honestly this moment made me cry worse then when we found out Zera was only an illusion. I'm happy things were good in the end but I wish they didn't have to die to be honest Mavis still had a lot of life in her. First Master you will live on in our hearts and souls may you rest in peace with Zeref.
Trevor Moser She lived a long enough life. She saw her guild grow and even saw her best friends live and die. She was ready at this point to leave along with Zeref. I never hated Zeref he really had no control for the lives he took for a majority of his eternity. No one other than Mavis can understand an immortal life so they really cared enough for each other to have these conflicting feelings. I mean can you really imagine yourself having a life resumed after all everyone you cared about in the beginning are gone. Yeah she loved the people in Fairy Tail but I mean I would never compare it to the her original friends. This was a good enough ending for them. My one complaint is that they bodied Zeref and The main antagonists way to easy for there not be any equal if not more casualties to be done on their side as well. I’m looking at you Markov and Gildarts.
don't worry they will have a supported scenes at the 100 year quest you will still see Mavis together with zeref even larcade and august let's just wait
Mashima very often writes some bs to get the good guys to win, but having the curse beaten by the contradiction of wishing the other would both die and live out of love, which also tied in rather cleverly with the oft-repeated "love is the root of magic and the most powerful of them all" even, was definitely kind of brilliant.
What pains me the most is they both died without knowing that they had a son suffering from both of their curses. The son who died while seeing her mother save somebody else.
I finished watching the last season yesterday and today I was thinking about this scene. In every film / anime / series, we have always been told that love can even overcome death, but in this scene Mavis and Zeref lose their immortality, their "eternal life". In this scene, love is represented as something that can overcome life. This is so deep.
Bottomline. When MAVIS kissed Zeref, he got happy cause he can finally die but also because at that moment also he knew mavis did truly Loved him that is why he is also truly Happy he can finally rest and feel loved at the very moment, as for Mavis, she died cause Zeref did really loved her too.. If one of them did not love the other that person will live, if you are the one who loved the other then you will Die, in this case they both did love each other, then they Die. My only regret with the Whole Fairy tail story so far is that MAVIS and Zeref never had a chance to know that they had a son. TT__TT
Remember in the beginning when we just heard about Zeref as some urban legend, basicly the Devil of how he is some great evil... after he was introduced I never once considered him a villan
Zeref is down right the best character in fairy tail. You understood his pain and can see why he lost his mind in the chaos. I do wish him a Natsu could of restored their relationship even if he still died at the end. Zeref is a tragic character.
The writing of ankheseram curse is absolutely brilliant. The fact that he’s really immortal even after got beaten by Natsu, what really kills Zeref is that another person with ankheseram loves him and not wanting him to die, which contradicted the feelings and causing him to actually die
The best part is because they both have the same Curse, Mavis and Zeref literally both killed each other. Cancelled each other out. The greatest love, killed the greatest curse. Not once, but twice. Great writing.
Their story has to be one of the saddest love stories in all of anime. I can only imagine Zeref's pain when their first kiss killed the only woman he's ever loved. Curse so powerful that it killed an immortal who was his only solace of hope to not have to walk alone for eternity. And i know Mavis blamed herself for not being able to love him as much as he loved her, or else they would have both died peacefully 💔 like in this scene.
From the first time he appeared in the serie I loved him I felt bad for him and I just wished that someone would save him so he could live a happy life with Natsu because it was for him that he got the curse he wanted to revive him but he ended up creating him so he could kill him, but I loved how natsu didn’t hold a gridge against him and called him neechan when he was leaving. This is so heartbreaking 😭😭
My guy suffered for 400 years. All he wanted to do was die. He's not the enemy. Anyone would have went absolutely insane. Zeref deep down is a pure guy. All he wanted was to bring his brother that he loved and didnt deserve to die back to life. He got cursed over it. This was a fitting end to Mavis and Zeref arc.
The fact that Zeref falls in love after so many years wandering , and also after a lot years went by again rest peacefully , with the one and only woman he loved ! And that's beautiful and deep 😭😭😭😭😭💜
I like how despite being dense at times, based on what he tells Lucy, Natsu understood what happened and that Mavis wanted to die alongside Zeref there.

i never have seen such a impactful and meaningfull main villain death in my entire life, like this is a masterpiece if you understand why mavis were twisting her words when he died and when he responded with "i feel truly happy" in that tone. this is so tragic, zeref is the best main villain of all time in my opinion, natsu knew whats going to happen as he said "can i leave the rest to you? first master" if you understand the story in fairy Tail behind those entire episode then you should know that the key was to be loved and love the entire time, the ultimate magic. Fairy Tail is a master piece and had a great ending, i dont care what anyone says, if someone comes up with the hate that natsu is one shoting acnologia without sense, then they forgot that zeref also got one taped but he did NOT LOST TO NATSU, he died to love. natsu was one shoting the 2 main villain because E. N. D was rewritten by lucy. she changed the future to make natsu not lose to them in fights, lucy made natsu burn time itself. its called "fate"
I'm not sure of this, the first try when they first kissed, their love is rooted differently. I'm not sure but for my understanding, Mavis like "I love you, pls die with me", while Zeref, "I love you, pls live" and that's why it clashed and didn't work. In the end, Mavis realized something, to love someone that you want him/her to live even if you die. In the end, they both hope that the other will live fr the bottom of their hearts that's why they end up to where they want to be: together either dead or alive:ethernal love
this scene is soo deep. dont know if he did it on purpose but it reminds me everytime i see it to daoism the ying yang symbol mavis vermillion, a kind warm person like light, with a part of opposite in her > the black magican like she was called in fairy tail zero zeref dragneel, a person decided to close his heart and lost in darkness, with his opposite part > white magican zeref as the fairy heart version in fairy tail final series when the dissapeared the lie together like the ying yang symbol^^ united with / ascended to true love blond haired mavis with black clothes black haired zeref with white clothes (at the end) from fairy tail zero to fairy tail final ^^ thats how i see this scene everytime. (also i wrote a short version of what i got in my mind xd but i hope it can be understand) have fun ;)
Ahhh this scene always gets me. Both characters were phenomenally written throughout the series and i’m really glad they were both able to have peace in the end. It must’ve been rough living for 400 years with the curse.

i really hope he was reunited with his little brother natsu in this season, and remove the darkness inside him i never feel hatred towards him because in the first place he never want this, all he cares is his little brother natsu ... i don't know what to feel , this scene is really sad.. i like zeref and mavis to have a chance and also a chance to be reunited with his brother because he waited it for so long that he can see his littlr brother natsu
there are a lot of things about the final arc which I didn't like that much, but this solution to the curse was great. Love being the first magic has been a theme since the very beginning of FT, it really was nice to have it become so essential at the end.
They made a lot of mistakes in this arc. This was not one of them. Perfect end to my second and third favourite character on the show. What makes this so good is the fact that it calls back to their first kiss, where mavis died. If you think about what a low point mavis was at there, you realise just how pivotal that moment was for the whole show. I keep thinking what if Zeref had died. Would Mavis have done the same thing as he did and carry on the creation of Alverez? I think she could've done. There's so much of the show that hinges on that moment and it's brilliant how the show makes two characters that seemed diametrically opposed to one another so similar and flawed. Beautiful stuff.
Definitely. Another thing that got things right is that the we get to see the side cast conclusions to their respective arcs like Kagura to Jellal and Sorano to Yukino.

I think Zeref, of course, knows that Natsu is always going to be his brother, regardless of how Natsu grew up away from him. But to be honest, Natsu stopped being his brother when he originally died because when he got resurrected, his memories of his parents and brother disappered. In my eyes, the brother that Zeref lost died centuries ago alongside their parents. This Natsu is essentially a stranger to Zeref.
In the start they say that love is the essence of magic Irene was super strong but had a lot of love for her daughter August was super strong but had love for his parents Mavis and zeref biggest sorcerers of the world and had love for each other
Imortality is not a gift but a curse for eternity. Seeing loved one gone old and die one by one. Thats so pianfull. Zeref wish only to rest. A simpl wish.
I keep seeing this scene over and over again, and I find it increasingly bizarre how the god Ankhselam in his ruthlessness had a heart so big that he allowed them to die together in the sweetest and most romantic way there is, as well as to continue living under another identity.😢😊
I've already watch Fairy Tail 4 yrs ago, but I still cry, fall in love and act like a newbie of this series. I just love Fairy Tail so much😭💖 Crying over their death, but I'm happy coz they are alive at the end of the season but without their memories💖 cant wait for the animation of 100 year quest.
Fairy tail was so full of hype and overcoming the impossible. But the ending is so sad, so bittersweet. Everything is overcome, but you can't escape the inevitable end. Mavis and Zeref's deaths.. it still hurts remembering it honestly. My favorite characters with such tragic backstories and interesting character design. Agh, pain. I wonder.. do character's deaths in anime hurt so much because we cared for them, only for them to die and no longer be seen doing new things? Because it makes us feel lonely?
Admittedly whenever I read the manga, I always listened to background music and in this specific scene in the manga, I decided to play the Sonic 06 OST “Just Smile” and when I just got past the part where Mavis kisses Zeref one last time, and right at the moment when Zeref finally lets his barriers down and cries happily, the ending of the song I had in the background had just reached its ending violin portion and the song ended JUST as I got to the end of that scene when they faded.
Of all 99 animes I've watch this is the most beautiful love story i ever seen . The most beautiful scene of death that had me satisfied ( zeref x mavis).
Minami Try watching Seven deadly sins, to me, the love stories in there are even more tragic then the ones in Fairy tail, the saddest story was told in season 3 (or 4, it depends on the website)
Best scene in the whole series. I pretty much only read Fairy Tail for Zeref and Mavis's story and once it was over, I was done with Fairy Tail since they were the most interesting characters to me and drove most of the plot.
Everytime i search fairy tail... that two sentence with 10 words brings me back memories when i was 11 years old where fairy tail all began in 2009 air on anime.... that was my first anime and i will ended with fairy tail... FAIRY TAIL ❤👆

Zeref is down right the best character in fairy tail. You understood his pain and can see why he lost his mind in the chaos. I do wish him a Natsu could of restored their relationship even if he still died at the end. Zeref is a tragic character.
The writing of ankheseram curse is absolutely brilliant. The fact that he’s really immortal even after got beaten by Natsu, what really kills Zeref is that another person with ankheseram loves him and not wanting him to die, which contradicted the feelings and causing him to actually die

The best part is because they both have the same Curse, Mavis and Zeref literally both killed each other. Cancelled each other out.
The greatest love, killed the greatest curse. Not once, but twice. Great writing.
Their story is so so tragic, a beautiful ending to their love story.
Their story has to be one of the saddest love stories in all of anime. I can only imagine Zeref's pain when their first kiss killed the only woman he's ever loved. Curse so powerful that it killed an immortal who was his only solace of hope to not have to walk alone for eternity. And i know Mavis blamed herself for not being able to love him as much as he loved her, or else they would have both died peacefully 💔 like in this scene.
All those battles and fights Zeref put up... and the answer for his peace all along...was to be loved...

Zeref and Mavis's death in Fairy tail and Meruem and Kogumi's death in HxH are the most beautiful anime deaths I've ever seen
From the first time he appeared in the serie I loved him I felt bad for him and I just wished that someone would save him so he could live a happy life with Natsu because it was for him that he got the curse he wanted to revive him but he ended up creating him so he could kill him, but I loved how natsu didn’t hold a gridge against him and called him neechan when he was leaving. This is so heartbreaking 😭😭

My guy suffered for 400 years. All he wanted to do was die. He's not the enemy. Anyone would have went absolutely insane. Zeref deep down is a pure guy. All he wanted was to bring his brother that he loved and didnt deserve to die back to life. He got cursed over it. This was a fitting end to Mavis and Zeref arc.

I like how despite being dense at times, based on what he tells Lucy, Natsu understood what happened and that Mavis wanted to die alongside Zeref there.

i never have seen such a impactful and meaningfull main villain death in my entire life, like this is a masterpiece if you understand why mavis were twisting her words when he died and when he responded with "i feel truly happy" in that tone. this is so tragic, zeref is the best main villain of all time in my opinion, natsu knew whats going to happen as he said "can i leave the rest to you? first master" if you understand the story in fairy Tail behind those entire episode then you should know that the key was to be loved and love the entire time, the ultimate magic.
Fairy Tail is a master piece and had a great ending, i dont care what anyone says, if someone comes up with the hate that natsu is one shoting acnologia without sense, then they forgot that zeref also got one taped but he did NOT LOST TO NATSU, he died to love.
natsu was one shoting the 2 main villain because E. N. D was rewritten by lucy. she changed the future to make natsu not lose to them in fights, lucy made natsu burn time itself. its called "fate"

I'm not sure of this, the first try when they first kissed, their love is rooted differently. I'm not sure but for my understanding, Mavis like "I love you, pls die with me", while Zeref, "I love you, pls live" and that's why it clashed and didn't work. In the end, Mavis realized something, to love someone that you want him/her to live even if you die. In the end, they both hope that the other will live fr the bottom of their hearts that's why they end up to where they want to be: together either dead or alive:ethernal love
This is why I love fairy tale, couple, friendship and FAMILY

i never feel hatred towards him because in the first place he never want this, all he cares is his little brother natsu ... i don't know what to feel , this scene is really sad.. i like zeref and mavis to have a chance and also a chance to be reunited with his brother because he waited it for so long that he can see his littlr brother natsu
there are a lot of things about the final arc which I didn't like that much, but this solution to the curse was great. Love being the first magic has been a theme since the very beginning of FT, it really was nice to have it become so essential at the end.

They made a lot of mistakes in this arc. This was not one of them. Perfect end to my second and third favourite character on the show.
What makes this so good is the fact that it calls back to their first kiss, where mavis died. If you think about what a low point mavis was at there, you realise just how pivotal that moment was for the whole show. I keep thinking what if Zeref had died. Would Mavis have done the same thing as he did and carry on the creation of Alverez? I think she could've done. There's so much of the show that hinges on that moment and it's brilliant how the show makes two characters that seemed diametrically opposed to one another so similar and flawed. Beautiful stuff.
Definitely. Another thing that got things right is that the we get to see the side cast conclusions to their respective arcs like Kagura to Jellal and Sorano to Yukino.
The most sad thing about this death is that when they wanted to live for each other the most, they had to die because of the curse...

I think Zeref, of course, knows that Natsu is always going to be his brother, regardless of how Natsu grew up away from him. But to be honest, Natsu stopped being his brother when he originally died because when he got resurrected, his memories of his parents and brother disappered. In my eyes, the brother that Zeref lost died centuries ago alongside their parents. This Natsu is essentially a stranger to Zeref.

I keep seeing this scene over and over again, and I find it increasingly bizarre how the god Ankhselam in his ruthlessness had a heart so big that he allowed them to die together in the sweetest and most romantic way there is, as well as to continue living under another identity.😢😊
I've already watch Fairy Tail 4 yrs ago, but I still cry, fall in love and act like a newbie of this series. I just love Fairy Tail so much😭💖 Crying over their death, but I'm happy coz they are alive at the end of the season but without their memories💖

Admittedly whenever I read the manga, I always listened to background music and in this specific scene in the manga, I decided to play the Sonic 06 OST “Just Smile” and when I just got past the part where Mavis kisses Zeref one last time, and right at the moment when Zeref finally lets his barriers down and cries happily, the ending of the song I had in the background had just reached its ending violin portion and the song ended JUST as I got to the end of that scene when they faded.
This scene made me cry like a baby 😭 I didn't wanted them to die still 😭 I loved them so much♥️

Best scene in the whole series. I pretty much only read Fairy Tail for Zeref and Mavis's story and once it was over, I was done with Fairy Tail since they were the most interesting characters to me and drove most of the plot.
I think Zeref probably is one of the best written villains I have ever seen, Mashima couldn't have done it better.
Everytime i search fairy tail... that two sentence with 10 words brings me back memories when i was 11 years old where fairy tail all began in 2009 air on anime.... that was my first anime and i will ended with fairy tail...
