Truthfully I think Mavis did love zeref as much as zeref. but It could be said that Mavis maybe someone where deep down partly blame zeref for the tragedy of what happen. That she couldn’t accept what happened and that feeling blunted her love It wasn’t until much later during the war and having to experience much grief. The pain of her family and comrades the pain she herself had to endure and the pain her lover had to endure! Facing all of that she could understand and fully embrace the love she felt for him! Atleast that what I think

Mavis lost her friends and zeref was the only person who could be with her. One had noone and finally found someone, other had friends but in the end could only be with one person

Sadly, if they both knew. It wouldn't have ended well for anyone; and like a dominoes effect, someone still in touch with Mavis would soon feel the peril of witnessing her curse
Which is why (even though it is despicably heart-wrenching), them not knowing about August was the only way they wouldn't have to see him die (until the end, where they are somehow forsaken by Ankhseram, and been given new lives)
I've seen loads of couples where that's the case. It's not that wierd. Also Zeref was maybe around 18-20 when he "gained" immortality while Mavis was only 13 so that also explains it.
I knew a couple that had a height difference of 1 foot 10 inches she was 4' 11" and he was 6' 9" tall. This was in high school. It was funny to watch them kiss, it looked kind of like when a parent penguin is feeding their chick.

I loved fairytail because it was my first anime. And yes I also didn't appreciate some parts of it. But ost, comedy, eng dub were on point..and some moments did hit very good. It's just that after this I watched Naruto, deathnote and read one piece so my standards just reached next level Fairytail ain't even top 15 for me but it's still very special to me.
