  • Palomino is a great "middle of the market" truck camper. These campers have a lower price point while still offering important features like A/C, solar, an awning, and electric jacks. The SS-1251 model is their most popular pop-up truck camper floorplan. The dry weight on that camper works well for 1/2 ton trucks, and its key feature is the interior toilet + shower.

Raising the roof will only work for a short while, the small motors located in the rear and in the middle only last for a short while, they operate very poorly

Sad looking at the shower inside, its still the same as in the 80s... why are the overall interior still built so cheap and ugly. These RV company need to evolve!

So a 1251 is 1,800 lbs dry. How is that great for a 1/2 ton. Most half tons cargo capacity is less than that. by the time you add people, supplies etc...you're pushing 2500lbs.

i bot the 1200 and used it on one camp out. The motors that lift the top quit. Dealer said new motors could take 6 months or so to get replacements. I traded it to another dealer at a loss for a Cirrus 620

EXCELLENT video on the Palomino's connections.
I learn best with visual representations.

I love my 2023 1251 Palomino. This is my third Palomino over a 10 year period. I really liked my Maverick but it was too high profile for some of the windy Rocky Mountain passes. The truck handled it just fine but I prefer to have a lower profile camper for some of the placed we go.

Looking at the solar panel on the roof, the white sealant around the edges looks like its been pushed over, whether intentionally or unintentionally onto some of the individual cells in the panel, won't that reduce the performance of those cells? And when you have some cells of a panel underperforming doesn't it limit the rest of the cells in the panel down to the poorest performing cell? And that charge controller looks like a $20 Amazon/Ebay PWM controller rather than a decent MPPT that will actually keep a battery charged. Wow, pausing on the overhead view at the end of the video look at all the campers with solar panels, some are squarely placed, and others look like they were just tossed up and glued wherever they landed...

I bought one in April a SS 1251 Badland Edition I've been living in it since April as well haven't had any trouble got down into the single digits and it handled it really well with no water freezing or anything the heater in that camper circulates the air through where the water tank and water lines are keeps them from freezing and the instant water heater will fire when it gets so cold for freeze protection it stays pretty warm in that camper I think it's just as warm as a hard sided one
