I have a similar Palomino popup camper. We always drop our camper as we pull our drift boat. Much easier to back your boat down the ramp without a camper attached, plus it allows us to be more mobile. One purchase we did make was a stabilization system from a company in Sandy OR, called Stable Camper. Very happy with how that firms up the camper and the price, approximately $500 was right. The craftsmanship on the individual pieces is amazing and you're looking at 2 hours to install it. Once it's on, it's there. Stows away almost sight unseen! Everyone's different, but for us, a popup, pickup camper works well. Also, it heats up quick. Our first trip, it snowed overnight, got down to 19 degrees and we were fine.

We just un-tarped ours this weekend and fitted it to our new truck. The video will come out on the 13th.
It has sat for 5 months and we were getting nervous, hoping everything still worked and if it was going to even fit on the Nissan.
Camping season here in Colorado is right around the corner.

i bought that camper today actually. we have camped for years , but my wife packed so much stuff i quit camping with her to was to much like a job .so i got this to go camping alone .beer hot dogs and chips shouldnt be to much .im planning on getting a small 50cc bike or an e bike dont know yet , for running around . i cant wait to get out there im 73and want to go go go. thanks for the heads up!

We have the very same Palomino slide in pop up camper. Its a 2023 and my only regret was getting the air conditioner. Its just more wind drag and lowers the clearance. When we sleep its usually after dark and we are usually in the mountains so the nights are cool anyway. As for plates. Paper plates are your friend ! The sink is for brushing teeth and rinsing a cup out. I built a back porch for my camper and I have sturdy running boards so I dont have to do the "dance" with a ladder. Anyone with a slide in pop up knows about the dance you do tucking the fabric in and latching the top down. We have had every type of camper and I find that this Palomino suits us best for what we do. We stay on the move quite a bit and I deliver equipment so I need to be able to tow so a bumper pull camper is out of the question. I can set up or tear down in 10 minutes whether it be at a campground or a Flying J.

We got the AC because we were in Texas, and you really cannot camp in Texas without one. Now that we are in Colorado, I don't think we have used it once. But, just in case of outside noise we can always turn in on and drown it out.
I would love to see pictures of the back porch. It may be something I would be interested in doing and taking on that project after next season.

I would get a Portia potty with a cassette that way you can dump in the woods. I put toilet paper in the trash so it's just fluids. #2 goes in a bag. No more black tank.
I use paper plates, bowls, cups and silverwear. No dishes. Use the sick for hand and wipe ups.
Over packing that's habit after having a big rig.
I wondered about wind in those campers, bummer it's noisy.

I take my 1251 off regularly. After you do it a number of times, you'll find that you become a "pro" at backing in under it. I simply raise it enough during the day to lift it off the bed then back under it when we return and set it down for the night. I also use "Fast guns" which make securing it a breeze. And you're TOTALLY right about overpacking!lol!. After a few trips you'll get it dialed it. We lived in ours for 15 days while out west with very minimal stuff...and like you said, even at that I had crap I didn't use at the end!lol! Oh, and if you don't think of it as a soft sided camper, rather a hard sided tent...you'll be pointed in the right direction!

Totally agree with you about packing light! No need to overpack. Isn't that why we go camping is to live simply? I have a Forest River Rogue truck camper and took it to Montana/Yellowstone/Grand Teton for 12 days and used about a third of what I packed. My sink is small, too, so I just use paper plates & bowls. No problem. Don't want to use my water washing dishes.

I agree that paper plates are the way to go, but the wife wanted something nice in case we had other campers over for supper, but yea, I always over prepare for every trip and learning how to just minimize everything.
I have a 1500ss 2021. I put storage under the bed and gained about 30 sguare ft of storage. Theres so much dead space in my camper that could be used. Ive had to fix alot of stuff on this camper from new. Putting dowel rods in the hem on the bottom of your curtains makes rolling the up alot easier.

Well, yes if you compare camping to living at home there are so many sacrifices to make. One of them will be dishes. I always see people here that go "Camping" and they have their home pizza in the oven in their stove in the camper. That's not camping. paper plates is the solution for the dishes. Or smaller plates. But better paper plates.

I like the camper. Since the sink and stove are small and not used much (from your other video) , would it be better to leave that space empty or counter space?

That's what we do. The sink has a little magnetic thing that goes over it and doubles for extra counter top. The stove, we do use on occasions. If the weather turns bad and we need to cook inside or finish cooking, like what happen at Echo Lake. There was a hail storm come in and we had to scramble to get everything inside and finish on the stove top.

We tent camp and use a 3 or 5 gallon bucket with a screw on lid as a compost toilet. Then we dump it into a pit toilet when full. That may work better than a pull along septic tank. Nice video. Thanks

Soft side vs hard side? Do you wish you had gotten a hard side? I'm trying to make that decision.

We toured several of the hard side models and just didn't like how closed in they were. We are very happy with the soft side, but it is a preference thing for sure. I will say it is a little more work than a hard side.
Last weekend we camped in it with low temps and we were nice and warm with one little electric heater.

Yes. Especially if we want to camp in one spot for multiple days, but want to go sightseeing without breaking camp.

I've learned not to buy this camper during a pandemic. It's July 2020 build and its a POS. Countless craftmanship issues. The biggest is the roof's ply under the rubber skin is pulling up and is spongy. I'm going to have to pull the skin off, fix the damn plies and re-skin it. I told FR about it when it was warrantied but they denied my claim among several other issues I had. If I did it all over again I wouldn't get a Palomino anything.

I know what you mean. I have bought things before that sucked so back I boycotted that brand for the rest of my life. On the other hand, I have bought items with horrible reviews and never had an issue.
My fingers are crossed and I have knocked on wood, I have not had any issues yet and know of others who have the same camper who swear by them.

Step up, sideways or close to the same. All depends on your needs really. We wanted more flexibility than pulling a trailer and more comfort than a tent. We got that now.
