    I cannot believe it is taking decades. In Norway they build a tunnel in a few months, even making a temporary road until it is being built to let traffic flow. I know, my husband used to work on many tunnels there. It is easy task for them, very efficient and fast.

    Thank you for giving us your update and we understand all of the different entities you need to placate when you take on such a vast project. You have clearly done a great deal of work in ticking the right boxes to keep people on side. We'd encourage you to break ground NOW as the need is a desperate one for the people who live and work in Dartford. Its indescribable what the roads look like when the crossing has a problem.

    That this is still in the planning and permission stages after I don't know how many years is deeply depressing. Having read about it for years, I thought they would at least be digging for years. I'm 86-not in my lifetime!

    Agree with all the other comments. This is long overdue and has been spoken about for years. When will it be started, let alone finished? Also it will disrupt the existing roads nearby for how long? We in Thurrock have seen total disruption for a number of years already enhancing a major road. So we can look to see more major roadworks etc. in the future. We should also be looking at the effect on the environment that this will cause.

    Whilst the LTC is needed the really sad blinkered vision is not to add rail tunnels. Benefits would include extension of euro tunnel trains to reduce the through traffic across Kent. Possible linked into HS2 avoiding the need to break journeys into London. So shortsighted to the benefits that could have been achieved.

    • @PhillipParr
      @PhillipParr ปีที่แล้ว

      HS1 already exists, and rail is prohibitively expensive. Given the current state of technology and the future predictions of AI and homeworking, it's unlikely that any new rail infrastructure will ever pay for itself.

    You are building it in the wrong place. Your own figures suggest that it will only alleviate 14% of traffic at Dartford. It should be built alongside the existing tunnels and bridge. logic dictates that this will alleviate much more traffic.

      No. You assessment is wrong.
      All roads make travel easy.
      We may need one more crossing after Lower Thames as the road traffic has increased.

      You are absolutely correct. Who will queue to get off the M25 to get on the A2 to travel east for 10 miles to rejoin the M25 a few miles along from dartford - no brained, stay with M25 through Dartford tunnel

    • @PhillipParr
      @PhillipParr ปีที่แล้ว

      @@roberthardy8034 A good chunk of traffic is just trying to go from the coast to the North and vice-versa; at the moment that traffic goes around the M25 to get onto the M20. With the new road and improvements to connections between the M2 and M20 I can see lots of it migrating to use that route as it'll be faster / fewer miles. Note that improvements to the M2 J3 and M20 J6 were approved in 2021: www.kent.gov.uk/roads-and-travel/road-projects/planned-road-projects/a229-blue-bell-hill

    A solution to the pressures at Dartford in peak periods is required- accepted. The proposed LTC is however a project that is flawed in so many ways and is being dragged forward many years after a decision was made on this being the “best”solution. The project now costs twice the original at £9 BILLION now! And the effect on traffic reduction has reduced to now just taking less than 1 in 5 vehicles away from the Dartford bottleneck . And it will take 8 years to materialise. Poor show and lazy from NH - this is simply a vanity project and Ltc is not fit for purpose. A short relief crossing WEST of existing crossing linking a206 to a13 across marshes will be much cheaper and remove same volume of traffic. A long tunnel on same m25 loop is the most realistic solution taking all through traffic leaving the poorly planned multi-convergence existing crossing to deal with local and logistic park traffic. And yes I am a regular user of the crossing and local resident so I know the reality more than marketing /spinners at NH

    What is your definition of stakeholders and who are they?
    Are you going to make this the greenest road by overcharging the road users and buying carbon credits that magic way of saying that you are GREEN whatever that means?

    • @PhillipParr
      @PhillipParr ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gardenannex in business speak, stakeholders are those who issue the directives to make something happen, and those who have interests in the project. For example, an archaeology team is likely to be a stakeholder (you must do this and that before you can build, etc). For public organisations like government there may or may not be direct financial outcomes; in the case of the LTC it's simply to improve efficiency of the existing crossing, which in turn should improve productivity in the general area.

    More waffle about what you are going to do. This has been going on years with no realistic light at the end of the tunnel. It is an abject failure and when you say you are working as fast as you can, that is the problem, rather like when the government says “they are doing their best”. That is the root cause of the problem.
    This government is so bad at any sinificant construction project! This was planned before 2016!
    This is not an update video it is a marketing video. 😡

    Its twee to look at the peripheral issues and plans - when will it be finished? Its pathetic at least and bordering on criminal to allow the ludicrous choking of economic and personal activity a moment longer at Dartford. In the 21st century, we need to learn to get on with it and not spend decades trying to find reasons to remain moribund.

  • @Old-Skool285
    @Old-Skool285 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The filter roads need improvement (especially where Sainsbury's is)leading onto the tunnels entrance. The traffic around Dartford is getting worse and worse the people of Dartford are choking on the exhaust fumes and also remain prisoners in their own homes as they don't want to risk getting stuck for hours. We need more than the one proposed tunnel to cure this congestion crisis.😡

    How many on the Planning and Consultation Teams have already retired without seeing a spade in the ground? The Net Zero and Carbon Capture Zealots have already delayed this project known as 'LTC' for several years. After 50 years of living with the Dartford crossing and all its failures to keep pace with the population expansion in the country, along with the increase in vehicles, I have lost faith in the ability of anyone in authority to solve the problems. Perhaps we should return to the days of the Tilbury to Gravesend Ferry!

    The current design only enables people encased in 1 metric tonne or more of metal to use this tunnel; these vehicles are also energy intensive to use. This tunnel excludes the use to those travelling in environmentally friendly modes of transport such as pedestrians, bicycles, mobility scooters etc. In my opinion, this is a human rights violation because people are treated differently according to the method of transport that they choose to use.

  • @sianroberts9488
    @sianroberts9488 ปีที่แล้ว

    I fail to see how encouraging more vehicles onto the road is going to help our net zero targets as a country, please halve the cost of rail travel and put more freight onto the rail system. making , growing and developing our own products and food would help remove much HGV traffic off of our roads, we have no joined up thinking everything government does has a knock on effect to road transport , this is a very very expensive sticking plaster which this video attempts to green wash.

      We need more rail infrastructure for that and that not only also cost money that could slow down public transport commuters. We have to make a decision, people or money?. East London's river crossing issues hasn't really been fixed despite rail infrastructure being added.
