  • This fly-through is an illustration of the design of the A122 Lower Thames Crossing, 15 years after road opening. It has been produced for information purposes only, based on the preliminary design in our Development Consent Order (DCO) application. Due to the level of detail presented in this visualisation, some elements of the project design are not visible. Full detail of the design, its parameters and environmental impacts can be seen in the DCO application documents.

    This really captures the accuracy of the road network, even in animations the drivers can't stay in the left lane :D

    Needed a rail crossing as well! Getting south of the river by train from Essex is a pain

      I agree. When the bridge between Sweden & Denmark was built a rail crossing was automatically incorporated. Why should public transport be omitted from transport plans? If more people were able to travel by train, there'd be less congestion, so it'd be a win-win. Could it be because our railways are not publicly owned and shareholders don't want to make that kind if investment without some payback guarantees? Probably too long a timescale for them!

      There are plans for that tram between Kent and Essex so that will probably be your rail crossing

      Yes, building new roads is always an air quality bonus(!) Sorry for the sarcasm... But new roads bring more cars, a rush of new houses and businesses, Dartford will very soon be just as busy. That's why they're built, as a spur for economic growth.

  • @CliveBlatchford
    @CliveBlatchford ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Seems to have brought together a lot of good things. Surprised the wooded areas are so small, and don't seem to link up well with existing areas and themselves. Even more surprised that there is so little cycling infrastructure; there are a few footbridges, but no mention of cycle bridges/tunnels. I would hope/expect that at this timescale, cycling will be an even bigger part of UK life, and this sort of project has to think about this now.

    • @alanlittle4589
      @alanlittle4589 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wish I felt the same sense of surprise. Completely what I expected. A big road, and some trees planted to ease our conscience. Roads for cars are a known spur for economic growth, cycling isn't viewed as providing economic growth. My hunch is that it's much smaller, and that there's very little in the way of evidence.
      I wish we built the world around people more, that more things were done as an economic loss but gave a social gain.

Traffic in this part of Essex is already at a standstill this road will not help.

    • @ALEX15here
      @ALEX15here ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean traffic traveling anti-clockwise (or from the south on a map) can't join at the new m25/Lower Thames junction? If you do, then that would make 0 sense considering you would have just passed junction 30, the A13, which has a direct and closer connection to the LTC a few miles down the road..
      Edit: If you were coming from beyond junction 30, you'd need to cross the QE2 bridge, so not sure why anyone would do that just to go up to this new junction and then back down through the LTC. Just get the A2 from junction 2 and save yourself 15 miles..

    It's certainly needed and I'm cheered to see some concessions to wildlife but green "corridors" and/or wildlife tunnels need to be created in order to make habitats viable. I would also like to see a cycle path and think there's a real missed opportunity in terms of a new rail line. One should be built with every new major bridge or tunnel. Why not get 2 engineering projects out of the way at once, save mess, disruption and share cost?

    That new A13 junction is absolutely ridiculous. It has to be one of the largest motorway junctions in the country in terms of footprint apart from maybe M6/M1/A14, Spaghetti or the M6 toll Junction in Birmingham? If they can build relatively compact junctions for other high use junctions such as M25/M1, M25/M3 or M25/M4 why does this new A13 junction need to be so large? It will cost a fortune to build and maintain. Even allowing for future proofing It looks like overkill. Some of those slip roads could be built way shorter than shown on the plan. 🙁

Still not to worry we have a token lake and token green bridge to help nature. Odd this is still being considered with the government focus on green transport and electric cars. The civil engineering will look really superb devoid of cars ! Seems like a vanity project, not for the benefit of Kent inhabitants.

      this is exactly the same comment that was made about the cut-through for the M3 by the wetlands near Winchester. the delay was years, the cost spiralled and once the work was done environmentalists had to admit that not only did the wetlands and surrounding countryside return to its former glory - it was better, much less polluted, wildlife has returned and thrived and residents did not have cars and lorries thundering past them at all hours, instead they were contained on the motorway. (also said about M25).
      In this instance, not only will the traffic disperse quickly and cleanly, it will also prevent the huge polluting delays further up - ie Dartford and Blackwall. the real nuisance and unnecessary tunnel project is Silvertown.

Why this continual focus to one point which is now inconvenient to whole country. It speaks of money in high places. Forget all the outside money from foreign countries and take control of our own borders and development. Labour want policies to put before the public so there is one but they have always failed on investment. Conservatives expect investments by others but want a kick back. Liberals want investments but offer nothing but hand wringing and nobody else wants anything but bloody badgers. Come on Britain we can do better than all this rubbish!
