    Love the editing and effort on the video! I have a question, currently I'm trying to setup a drawing tablet on a mount. I bought the Amazon basics one ($100ish) and in general, the quality is phenomenal. However the tilting mech that allows the monitor to look up and down, is so damn stiff even on the loosest setting that it feels like I'm going to break my screen. Does the LX mount have a wide range of tightness on the tilt head?

    • @ruleofones
      @ruleofones  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!
      So here’s the thing: the tilt is adjustable in tightness, and admittedly it is still quite stiff. However, tilting up is much easier than tilting down. Not the most useful input i know, but wanted to be comprehensive. I find that the feeling that i might break my monitor in tilting is more apparent when i try to be gentle. Its like an arthritic joint, being more decisive in my input makes the joint flex more easily. I would say ESPECIALLY with Amazon just give it a shot, you can always return it.

    • @Myselfsama
      @Myselfsama 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ruleofones I have the same feeling with this one. Tilting up is far easier than tilting down. After an hour or 2 of messing with it and looking at videos/reviews I decided to order a replacement. Some people have had good luck with it, and I cant imagine its that hard on every single unit. HEY! If you're still in the market for an arm, there's an Ergotron LX Dual on Amazon for 55 which is an INSANE price for one like it. It's labeled "Amazon Basics Dual Monitor Stand", but trust all the reviews, the manufacturer is Ergotron it's just chosen and rebranded by Amazon.
      It supports 20lb monitors on each arm, has a wingspan large enough for two 34inch ultrawides or many other setups, has C bracket and grommet (hole through the table) mounting options, and a ton of adjustments and positioning options.

      If your budget allows and you want the versatility, Id say get this one. You wont be disappointed in the quality at all. But ultimately its a matter of whether this suits your wants and needs. I have no complaints and still feel satisfied when i see it. The nice thing is that even if you want a center-positioned monitor stand, this folds in a way that allows that too.

    • @ruleofones
      @ruleofones  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!
      The monitor can swing past the back of the desk so it can hit the wall. However, to be honest it doesnt swing so freely that it would bang into the wall. As an extra precaution i put a square piece of clear tape on the part of the wall where the elbow of the arm sits, and i also just push the arm to the wall relatively slowly. But the arm is built so tight that the movement is slow and controlled anyway. Hope that helps!

      @@ruleofones Once a person discovers monitor arms they don’t go back to crappy monitor stands. The best monitor arm on the market is Humanscale. They are 2X the cost of Ergotron however. I love my Humanscale. My only (very big) complaint with Humanscale is that they don’t emphasize a critical fact. You must be sure about the weight of your monitor when choosing the Humanscale model. If your monitor is too light, the Humanscale monitor arm will not work. It will stay stuck. I tell people to always get the M8 model. Its the in between arm and will work for most monitors. I once boight the M10 and couldn’t use it because it only works on monitors over 30lbs (ideally 40lbs +).

    • @ruleofones
      @ruleofones  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The whole arm is holding up really well. I actually still kinda smile when i see it, it just brings a minimal yet functional aspect to the space, plus it makes me think of all the love ive gotten here. The tilt is actually on the tighter side at least for me, but nothing is lax.

  • @Trey_Dobbs
    @Trey_Dobbs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Is the normal Ergotron LX the one to go with over the "tall pole" version? I don't have a standing desk, and I want my monitor to be at eye level. Not sure why I'm seeing so many recommendations to get the "tall pole" and what value it provides.

    • @ruleofones
      @ruleofones  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! So i just tested it out with my ergotron, and im 5’9. The ergotron doesnt articulate high enough for the monitor to reach eye level, BUT if I bring the ergotron to its highest and then tilt the screen up, i can stand straight and am able to comfortably look down without bending my neck. At that position it feels sort of like looking at a podium if that makes sense.
      Ergotron does also have a tall pole version so the pole that you attach to the desk has a higher attachment point for the arm. This should solve your issue.

  • @MrSpike77777

    Good review, do you find that you're getting enough height adjustment? I'm looking at getting the HX for the LG C1 48" but not sure 11" will be enough. I'll check out your other videos to see if you have additional feedback.

    • @ruleofones
      @ruleofones  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      EDIT: Have you considered the LX dual stacking? they claim a weight capacity of 44lbs. (they really need to sponsor me at this point haha!)
      Hmmm, that's an interesting question. Initially I was going to suggest the LX with the taller stalk but the weight limit isn't enough for your monitor. Another thing to consider is that the 11 inches of height adjustment will be less for you because, if I'm thinking about it correctly, some of that height for you will be to accommodate the large screen. So you're already starting at a certain height to begin with. But correct me if I'm thinking of it wrong.
      For me, I have a 27" monitor and a standing desk, so I don't use the height adjustment to it's extremes really ever. But for whatever it's worth, I have between 13 and 14 inches from my desk to the bottom of my VESA mount at max height. Let me know what happens, ultimately it may just come down to giving it a shot.

    • @MrSpike77777
      @MrSpike77777 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ruleofones Thanks for the reply, LX dual may work but not sure how to go about mounting two arms. The HX would already need an adapter to do vesa 200x300. I guess I either order and try or wait for someone who is planning the same setup to ask. The 11.5" shown on Amazon is pretty vague since they don't show what the lowest or starting height is. One of the bad reviews also states no returns so could get stuck with something bad if it doesn't work good.
      Anyway, good videos. keep them going. I just subscribed.

    How far behind the desk can you push it assuming that you would had some space behind? I am thinking about getting LG C2 and install it on this arm but I have not so deep desk.

    • @ruleofones
      @ruleofones  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keep in mind that as you push it back the side of the monitor will come up against the arm, so technically the arm pivots at the base 360, but the monitor itself might stop you from pushing it back. I suppose if you raise the monitor up enough, it can clear the first arm attached to the base, if that makes sense.

    • @Hextorio
      @Hextorio 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ruleofones definitely makes sense. Thanks a lot. So 360 it is, the only limitation would be the size of the display itself.

    • @ruleofones
      @ruleofones  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Marcin Kapusta OK! So I just tried it with my 27 inch monitor, and if you turn the lower arm coming off the base 180 to the back, you can bend the arm 90 degrees to face you, which will give you about 6 inches. However, that is wit ha 27 inch. With that said, if desk depth is an issue and you like cannot clear 42 inches with the monitor arm, you may want to just get a different size
      To put it another way, if you get the 42 inch screen and put it on your desk but have to push it back because the desk isn’t deep enough, then perhaps if you got, for example, a 32 inch screen instead, it would be more appropriate for your desk depth and you wouldn’t have to push it back, you may even be able to bring it forward.

    • @ruleofones

      @jeremijakrstic1968 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HUANUO is great. I have one myself and it hasn't failed me yet (knock on wood). When it comes to price, they are within the 'for normal human beings' category. Still, quite well designed and executed, while maintaining utilitarian looks. They just do the job.
      However, if you want everything a monitor arm should provide, like in the case of Huanuo, and premium finishing quality on top of that, there are, in my opinion, only three choices:
      - Ergotron
      - Humanscale
      - Colebrook Bosson Saunders

      Dude you beat me to it! I’m in the middle of moving and was going to slightly redo my desk set up and mention that. Definitely zero complaints. I do need to mention the caveat that I don’t move the monitor around a lot. The most that I do is move it forward and backward a couple of inches and adjust the height occasionally, but I have taken it apart a handful of times and it comes apart and goes back together smoothly and it still works great.
