    Half of these conflicts could have been avoided if the king of Leinster had just kept his gub shut.

    Pictures & commentary aren't consistent on dates: e.g. partition:1920 per pictures but 1921 per commentary (1921 correct); independence: 1922 per pictures but 1921 per commentary (1922 correct); republic declaration: 1949 per pictures but 1948 per commentary (1949 correct). Also 05:40 "two newly formed states": No - NI is and not and never has been a State. Rather it's a UK region and the UK was not a new state. Finally, i'ts a pity adoption of current name & constitution for Ireland in 1937 was skipped over.

    You state 'The IRA began attacking the Police and the British army' when talking about IRA activities, However when mentioning the UVF, UDA and Army you say that they targeted Catholic civilians and used repressive tactics. The IRA led a policy of Ethnic Cleansing against protestants living in Northern Ireland but notably South Armagh. This is shown with the Kingsmills Massacre, The Tullyvallen Massacre and the Darkley Massacre. All three atrocities happened just 10 minutes from my house and were an obvious attempt by Republicans to destroy and intimidate Protestants from the area. The kingsmills massacre was carried out by the IRA against a mini bus of Protestant Work men who left Glenanne factory. 12 workmen were on the bus and the only catholic of the group was told to step out and run. The remaining 11 Protestants were mercilessly gunned down. Your attempt to hide and shelter the IRA from blame of these atrocities is disgusting. I would advise everyone to investigate the murders of innocent Protestant and Catholic civilians as well as innocent UDR men, Police men and army before shouting support for these terrorists. The Americans supported these terrorists for 3 decades, no wonder the world finds it Ironic that you lead the 'War on Terror' now.. Maybe Karma? To IRA men who slaughter and butcher men like Robert Nairac and my Granda, Your day shall come, but not the day you suspect.

      The closest thing Ireland has to our Republican Party, and in terms of membership numbers proportionally as big, can't get a majority in their Parliament, first, because the founder of the party died; second, because party members in said Parliament were proven to be so bad at math the consensus was they shouldn't be trusted with running a whole government. This last having happened four years before the Great Recession in '08.
      We're minor league compared to the Irish. 😜

      I hope I'm not considered one of those. Maybe I should explain. My dad's side is Ulster Scots (though he denied having any Irish at all until my adulthood), my mom's is Catholic from Longford. Not surprisingly, I was brought up favouring an all-island Irish nation, autonomous and free from GB. I'm no longer keen on it if the majority in the North want to remain in the UK.
      I fancy myself an Irish nationalist but I'm also amenable to the views of the majority in the North. I could easily side with either tradition, but the wheel of history tells me my original instincts are right.

    Fun fact. St. Patrick is actually more associated with the color blue than with the color green. He earned the green part because he used to tie shamrocks to his robs since he often used them as a metaphor for the holy trinity, each leaf of the clover representing one person of the God head. However, his order and he himself wore blue robes of a lighter shade. While we're on the topic of the whole blue green thing, since the twelfth century, Ireland's national color was blue. You can see this for instance in the ancient Irish standard, a golden harp on a blue background. However, in more recent times, Ireland has become more associated with the color green due to the IRA. Just some interesting facts about Ireland and St. Patrick (I'm Irish-American).

      There are few "FACTS" when it comes to Patrick,(if any) it is not known where he came from. Most believe it was somewhere in Britain but it cannot be ascertained for certain where he was really from, however some even postulate that he may be from Brittany.
      Some say he wasn't real at all, merely a fabrication or origin myth to unite all Irish Christians behind one powerful figure. Some say he is a mixture of three different people.
      The only thing we know for certain is that he was not the first to bring Christianity to Ireland.

    I went to Belfast in August, I had a fantastic time there. As someone who grew up unaware of the situation from 1969-1998, I first heard of Northern Ireland as a result of the signing of the Good Friday Agreement, I wanted to see for myself what it is like there. One of the aspects of the agreement that got my attention, was that by voting for peace, people were being asked to vote for the release of their loved one's killer. All political prisoners were to be released. It really struck me how much Belfast has changed (looking at pictures from the news anyway) for the better. I filmed my stay in Belfast and divided it into 3 parts, feel free to check it out as you please.

      +sbaker190189 That's why we (Protestants) would undo it all in the morning so to say. The recent activity by the IRA have shown and in the recent MI5 report that the IRA did not go away like the said they had, the IRA army council still retain control over Sinn Fein. The Protestant people of Northern Ireland were sold a lie. We have been attacked by Sinn Fein telling us to move on and forget about the troubles but yet they still hold their Easter Rising commemorations and remember their 'Martyr' Dead. Sinn Fein have told that many lies and spins that I think they start to believe them themselves. I think Republicans are treading a dangerous road because even the moderate Protestants and Unionists are sick to the death of the IRA bombing and disrupting our lives that one more straw can break the camels back. The retaliation will be ruthless and relentless.

    • @SiVlog1989
      @SiVlog1989 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Pagan Lord the first stretch of road I traveled on, on the shuttle bus from George Best Belfast City Airport, I traveled through a unionist area, and saw more Union Jacks concentrated in individual areas than I see in the entire area of England I live in, greater London. Even the area around where I stayed (Dublin Road, Belfast, about 5 minutes walk from City Hall) I didn't have to walk far to see more Union Jacks.
      I would like to read your opinion, (don't worry, I will not express one view or another, purely asking for devils advocate purpose) what do you feel when there's news broadcast during marching seasons about sectarian clashes on marches routes?

    • @paganlord9493
      @paganlord9493 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sbaker190189 I believe that the reason for so many Union Flags in areas is that of two reasons. 1. The people here are much more patriotic and fervent in their country as at all times our position in the country is unstable. England will never be removed from the UK however at any time Northern Ireland may be and so I believe this is a sign of loyalty to a government that would probably give us away. 2. The people in these areas could be intimidated. I know a place called Latt outside Republican Newry and they have a ridiculous amount of flags and signs, however the main reason for this is that they are constantly under intimidation and threat with the most recent shooting happening about 3 weeks ago. The flags are to lay out a kind of border or 'No-go' area and give a sense of security to these people who feel helpless in the relentless attacks of the IRA.
      Onto the second part of your answer. Being an Orange man I am ashamed and sorrowful at the same time at these clashes in the street. I am ashamed that people and supporters of my Organisation would bring it into so much disrepute, however the fat that a biased Parades Commission is now ruling over the parades in Northern Ireland leads to the fact that many parades, which have marched for 150 years are now being stopped due to Catholics moving into areas and then requesting them to be stopped. The Protestant people are people of Tradition and don't like change. We have accepted Murderers into Government however it seems more and more ground is being concede to Terrorist Republican movements that suddenly it becomes effective to carry out violence. I feel that our culture and Identity is being eroded by people who wish to destroy us and use 'Equality' as a 'Trojan Horse' as Sinn Fein President said 'We will break these Bas***ds with the Trojan Horse of Equality'
      My people are being attacked on all sides telling us to move on and forgive and forget. We have not even had an apology for the murders carried out by those who sit in Government.

The media treats people like my dad has criminals even here in England , when all his job was to stop both sides from killing each other but In the end the IRA attacking the soldiers only caused a hate to begin to boil in some of the soldiers , my dad saw this happening first hand, a IRA road bomb caused severe damage to my dad and ended his military career and caused issues he's still suffering from today, but not once my dad has said he hates the Irish he was just doing his job.

The name of video title shows just how much of a thug you really are, and this is coming form a British and Irish men, there's no such "north Ireland" or "North (of Ireland)" but the official name is "Northern Ireland" in the United Kingdom. Some people in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland back from 1801-1922 were happy to be in that country, regardless of religion. But times change and in 1921 along with the 1921 Irish Anglo Act (later became active in 1922) Ireland did become fully independent with it's own laws and government soon after. Adam Mc Garrity The only reason that England was so desperate to maintain authority in Ireland was because of the French. If the French had arrived to aid the United Irishmen, chances are that sooner or later, with the then growing paranoid concern of a French Empire dominating the world, Ireland would have eventually became a military base for a French armada, a stepping stone for the French to finally launch an invasion attempt against Britain. This was always a concern of the British, the primary reason they didn't want to give Ireland up.

    You forgot to mention that loyalists specifically targeted civilians while the IRA at least sent in warnings when bombing cities

    Very informative and newspapers never followed this. I always had to depend upon word of mouth to understand. Then people always made vague comments long ago that I could never understand as a teen. Thanks.

      The value of the pound has dropped massively. I wouldn't call that a booming economy.

    funny how my response to this was "wow people are terrible to each other" and most of the other comments are indeed people being terrible to each other.

      Pretty sure you are confused. IRA murdered a lot more civilians than the British army. Also we don't kill civilians now you dumb twit. Go back to your potato fields. If you support the IRA, you are the same as an ISIS supporter.
