Yes but too bad Toyota never built the infrastructure for Hydrogen and has never released Hydrogen On Demand, which there are at least SEVEN companies that can build this. A lot of customers are interested in Mirai but the bottleneck is the availability of hydrogen stations, which are very few or non-existent in many states. Toyota needs to up their game and invest in Hydrogen station building if they want Mirai to succeed.
@@maximilianraphael9853 I’m being dramatic, because it’s annoying when you go to fill up, even when the station says it’s up, just to have it be down. I don't like hydrogen fuel cell cars right now because they are incredibly slow compared to other electric cars. But I wish there will be the revolution that will change the car culture in the near future. Thanks.
Why Toyota lied to us about the range of this vehicle? I went to the dealer in LA, and they told me that EPA is only 280 miles while toyota mentioned that ranges is 409 miles. That's a BIG difference on the road. (watch minute 1:20' of this video, 256 miles with full tank)
It's a new technology. This is not a car for mass production. The Mirai is a developmental product that Toyota sells in small numbers as it develops the technology.
The beautiful Toyota Mirai, equipped with a gasoline powertrain, would have made for an Avalon so popular it would still be in production. Instead, the Mirai is the best looking Toyota sedan most people will only see in pictures.
It Hurts too see such amazing technology being phased out due to poor decision making like high cost for hydrogen refills to less availability of hydrogen filling outlets
These cars aren't ready to be purchased. Where do you refuel? So after the "hydrogen phase" fails you'll be stuck with a $50,000 brick you can't refuel. I just looked up fuel stations around me, there are only two and this is what they show "We regret to inform you that our supplier of gaseous hydrogen for our Southern California stations experienced a major service disruption, which has stopped our supply of gaseous hydrogen. We do not have an estimated date for when hydrogen supply for these stations will resume. We appreciate your patience"
Recently saw a video of a lady filling her Miria. Once full she showed the cost on the “pump.” The hydrogen was $163 and the car said her range was just over 300 miles. Charging my Tesla is maybe $9 at home and the car has 500hp.
Thats a silly comparison. The Mirai is a pilot program that the public can purchase as Toyota develops the technology. It's as simple as that for now. Comparing it to any mass production car makes no sense.
You don't need to. Just keep a gas-powered generator, a few buckets of water and an Electrolyser in your trunk. Then you can make hydrogen whenever you need it. Simple

Why are you lying? The range of this car is not 402 miles as you claim, but 250-270 miles. Even in the 1.20 minute video it is clearly visible that a full refueling shows a range of 253 miles. PHHV - a Plugin Hybrid Hydrogen Vehicle would make a lot of sense. With a range of 70KM people could drive normally every day and when they need a longer trip, they use hydrogen. You build hydrogen charges along major highways, reduce the price. Then some time in the future you put a solar roof on the vehicle using that extra energy you start producing hydrogen onboard using a distilled water. You can also do that while charging. Hydrogen then compressed and pumped in to tank for longer storage. This all happens on board the vehicle. Now if you do long trips rarely you will never need to fill up the hydrogen. If someone do this it will kill electric cars for real.
Automotive fuel cells are not reversible, you can't produce hydrogen on board , and even then it would make a poor choice in efficiency as the round trip would be 25-30% whereas the around 65-70% efficiency of storing said energy in batteries, plus even if you are somehow able to produce hydrogen you need to compress it >700x times before even managing to store it in the h2 tanks or a specific redundant sealed tank with the same volume of the car itself (to manage a meaningful amount of uncompressed h2) . For a PHHV with a 70km range to work you'll need also need a big SUV the 2024 Mirai for a 5 meter sedan it's quite cramped inside with a minuscle boot , this because the fuel cell stack and the tanks volume is quite substantial compared to the total volume of the car, fitting a battery big enough for 70km of range (plus an AC/DC/DC charger/converter) would mean eliminating the boot altogether and probably eating a bit into the rear passenger already cramped space.
The Mirai is a pilot program that the public can purchase as Toyota develops the technology. It's as simple as that for now. Some people are willing to pay to be a guineas pig and Toyota gives a big warranty in return if something goes wrong
A very nice looking vehicle! Wish it was available in gasoline and I could get one in Florida. Better looking than the ugly, unaffordable Crown. Ive got a Camry, and would gladly upgrade to this vehicle, just as long as it was as large as the Camry, and not small like a Prius.
