      @@alle_namen_schon_vergeben708 Why not? It doesn't hurt to, it is about what the video contains rather than the length of it in my opinion. But more importantly, allowing viewers to look at what is discussed and jumping to/rewatching the parts relevant to them with a single click of a button instead of scrolling through it makes life easier

    I got the 10 the other weekend, as an upgrade from my 8. I took it out to Jupiter/WPB to see what it can do with the Goliath. Like you I was very impressed. The new white balancing is pretty damn good, I really don't find the need for the deep filter anymore, as it just needs a little kick in the right direction. In fact I decided to remove the deep filter in favor of a green filter.
    Though low light wise, I'm not sure it is better to very low light compared to the 8, the larger sensor is just a bit too grainy for my liking. But I might have to test it side by side in the caves... when they divable again.

    Thanks for this high quality divers review! I had considered the 10 more of a 9.5 but after seeing some of your shots, I can see this may be worth considering. The low light looked great and love the ability to crop in 5.3k to 4k quality. It's great the accessories fit as that makes it less of a painful purchase!

    • @toriless

      It is even worse is night. It does great stills at night but video is still horrible. I think it needs a sensor 4 times as but to handle low light on video. Try and shoot fireworks, it makes underwater look easy. Only thing harder is shooting picture of the sky at night. Anyhow, if you are just OW it is fine. You need a real rig for wreck and cave dives.

    Thanks for the great work, James. I have a GP 7 and I am definitely going to upgrade. I just wonder: What do you do with all of that footage? I spent a week on a liveabord in 2019 with my 7 and before I knew of it, I was out of diskspace on my laptop with a 250 GB disc. That was at a much lower resolution and framerate. Do you just bring a lot of SD-cards?

  • @Chogogo717

    Ok, that’s pretty sick for not being edited. I’d love to see what some of the footage you shot looks like color corrected (the turtle footage looked like it might have some highlights clipping). And also I’d love to see what it looks like with some lights added. I was about to buy some lights, but that adds a huge cost, and more gear to travel with and lug on the dive. So far looks awesome. The only down side I see to the 5k is it’s a HUGE file to edit. I’m sold though on the camera since Olympus hasn’t added manual to the TG camera line yet if ever.

Do most people simply take video and then screen capture an image to get just the right frame? How easy is it to capture a frame as a jpeg or other image?

    Just put my order for one of these in. After dozens of pool dives and 12 dives in OW with absolutely no vis thanks to being permanently fogged up, I went for a dive in Stoney yesterday and finally had perfect clarity from my mask (spit, don't wash off apparently works, if a little yucky!) and getting to actually see the Stanegarth and other intentional wrecks properly, I want to share what I can see... Photography was the main thing I wanted to dive for and it seems like the GPH10 is the way forwards for compact and fun shooting.
    I was originally going to go for a 360 camera but that can wait... for a long time.

    Nice test footage from a artistic standpoint. My computer only played the video in 480P so I can't comment on quality. I have never been one to really care about the # of Ps or Ks anyway. I would like to know how the battery life changes with the increased frame rate and quality. I would only be filming in 1080 as that is the best display quality I have at home on my computer or TV. Also without dropping a bundle on fancy editing software or a supercomputer to process the video such high quality is unable to be fully utilized. I would like to see some test footage from northern climes with 15 ft viz in darker or green water. Also How does this compare price wise with a lower level still camera that shoots video such as an Olympus TG6?

I’m just wondering about the many problems that are written in the Internet about the instability of the GoPro 10 software and the heating of the GoPro 10… I like very much the 4K 60 videos and I think this is more than enough. for special slow motion you may use 2.7 240 and upscaling it to 4K but I feel that the sharpness decreases…. The footage of the 10 is great, the flip-filters are just horrible,
    1 minute color-grading and the result is better. Even easier, make your own for postproduction. different reds as an overlay in low opacity are much better (easier and cheaper), as you don´t want to filter any light away from the sensor of the camera, which is already in low light conditions.
    Anyway, your shots are brilliant, and show that in general, the low light capacity of the Hero has improved a lot. Can´t wait to get ours wet.... housing should arrive any day now.
    Thank you for taking the time to put all that footage together! I really appreciate the effort, and even more the footage.

If they increased the buffer to allow 1K FPS at 1080 or at least 720, preferably a 15-30 second shoot before write vs my current 7-10 second clip ability @ 1K FPS, would have been an instant buy for me. For now I just use separate cameras for separate things until someone comes out with something that does it all. For now I'm going to snag a couple 9s from people upgrading and keep my rx100s and alphas for slow motion.

      It really depends what story are you going with, is this case, water so blur, then the only thing to photograph is one animal for example, so we all focusing on one animal at scene, slow motion created beautiful feeling, if we got clear ocean view for example coral view in Australia, I wouldn't sacrificing any sharp resolution.

    Have you run into the overheating issue? I’ve seen a few videos where it overheats and shuts down after 35 minutes underwater in a housing, compared to an hour with the 9. The 9 is legit out of battery and the 10 comes back after it cools.

    • @AtraxJoe
      @AtraxJoe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Two sides of one coin: on one hand, the overheating issue isn't really an overheating issue but a safty feature. The running time of the GPH10 at 4k120fps is in average 15 mins. depends on the circumstances. Comparing to high quality cameras like the Canon EOS R5 that costs around 4500 euros with a limited recording time of 15mins at 4k120fps to avoid overheating, the running time of the GPH10 is pretty good 😉.
      On the other hand, sure, it sucks if the GP shuts down cause of overheating but in fact, it's pretty rare to do videos longer than 15mins during a dive.
      Cheers

I'm assuming voice commands, GPS, and WiFi are off and maybe the screen brightness is at 50%. Anything else?

      Turn on the feature which turns the screens off while still filming. The chosen shooting modes will also effect batteries as it is trying to write more data onto the memory cards. Everything is a trade off.

On land though I cant help but notice that the camera gets pretty hot with no air flow at those resolutions. battery life really sucks at these resolutions, definitely need to be picky with shots. overall though, the 10 is a great action cam for divers.

    • @tastycake1969

      For snorkeling you would be fine, but how often do you really NOT go past 33ft in a dive? Also, what is advertised is under ideal conditions, LIFE is not "ideal". I'd really recommend getting the factory housing and the backscatter flip. I got the 10 and flip back in October and like it. Just buy extra batteries, you only get about an hour per battery.

    @Divers Ready what kind of max ISO are you using on these clips? Also, did you use the new Natural Color setting for the 10?
    As for the Vaquita, I have shot it against a GoPro 9 and a 10 and at depth, in my view, it does look better than the GoPro - especially at higher frame rates. As I understand, EIS is on the door step, but not yet here, so that's one disadvantage for now but color and noise wise, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

    • @yoragistri
      @yoragistri 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you uploaded a video of this comparison? Thanks!

    • @AntiVaganza
      @AntiVaganza 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yoragistri Nope:). But have reviewed the clips and my conclusion still stands. Also, GoPro clips at low light are always flattered by youtube as the compression takes the edge of the noise. I'd still love to hear from @Divers Ready about his ISO settings just to see if mine was alright.
      Actually, often "the internet" says never to use more than ISO 400 on a GoPro for diving and to use a red filter. I did that and the result is super under exposed footage if you are just a tad deep. The alternative is to raise the ISO or not use a red filter. High ISO leads to noise and not using a filter still reduces red colors though perhaps less than in previous models(?).

    • @yoragistri
      @yoragistri 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AntiVaganza I bought the vaquita recently and actually agree with you. The video quality is better than my GoPro 7 black+red filter, BUT it needs image stabilization, especially if you use it on your mask.

    • @AntiVaganza
      @AntiVaganza 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yoragistri Couldn't agree more but I hear they are working hard on EIS. The hardware, the gyros and sensors are all there, it's a software thing and supposedly complicated - but it will come:)
      As for your mask mount, try adding a block of hard foam or a cork or similar at the rear of the camera - in between the mask mount and the camera and then somehow strap the camera hard against the plate. The idea being that the camera will be fixed to the plate in two places instead of just the front. I haven't done it myself yet, but heard the trick from a spearo who did it.

    • @yoragistri
      @yoragistri 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AntiVaganza Yes, they say they're working it. Until then, I'll have to move my head more slowly, although it's quite difficult when spearfishing, I'm not used to do so. Thanks for your tip, I think it has to do with head movement combined with wide to medium field of view.
