I used to own x100v. I currently own xt5. And i did preorder x100-6. But the more I think of it. I could just buy a Fuji 23/f2 lens for fraction of the price of x100-6 and have the same sensor. Ibis. Larger evf. Sd type 2 card slot in fact two of them. Faster burst rates. Larger battery. Very quiet shutter sound. In a package which is larger than x100 but not by much with 23/2. Lots of advantages. The 2 things I would be missing that I like is build in nd filter and ability to fire a very convenient little flash at very high speeds without going into high speed. Personally, I’m buying x100vi because I want a fixed lens camera, compact size, and, point and shoot without worrying about editing. If you have xt5 already, you don’t need the x100vi, it’s the same camera with 23mm f2 🤷‍♂️. So yeah that’s it really

As someone who has had the x100v for 2 years, I did not order an x100vi. The x100v is great for family snapshots but one thing many people don't talk about is the horrible lens distortion it has if you shoot things like cityscapes or architecture. I have had so many pictures ruined by this distortion. It is not something I have been able to correct in post. Also I have the XT5 with the 40mp sensor and one thing to note is that diffraction sets in about f8 on the 40mp sensor vs f11 on the 26mp sensor. So if you like to shoot a lot past f8 the x100vi might not be for you. Like Mark said I rarely use the x100v outside family snapshots because I really dislike 23mm for photography. But it is a fun camera to have and use once you realize what it's good at.

The digital crop mode is NOT giving you the equivalent 35, 50 or 70mm lens. Its the same 23mm (which is 35mm equivalent) but only cropped or zoomed in. That does not make it a 50 or 70mm lens, it still has the 23mm characteristics and 'lens distortion'

This sounds smart, is commonly believed but is entirely wrong. There is no inherent characteristic to a focal length that’s independent of the FOV obtained by cropping (except for DoF). Easy case in point: Tele cameras on phones. The Tele photo lens on a Google Pixel has less than 7mm focal length, still gives you the same characteristics as a 110mm lens on full frame would (again except depth of field)

And still you are not getting 40 megapixels, same size files when you shoot in the 70mm lens mode etc etc. Its just a crop and definitely not only difference DOF. Also i highly doubt that your 7mm phone lens isnt being processed by your phone, and then there is sensor which also plays in part. So i dont think you can compare a phone lens in this. Yes the X100 vi would be a great upgrade to the XE, but I was hoping to have uniformity across my 3 camera for batteries when shooting events and weddings etc. also miss the d pad like on my current cameras. One is housed in a cage and the other usually has one of the F1.2 WR, F1.4 WR, or Red Badge zoom lenses attached so they are not my go-to for a daily carry package. The deal breaker for me is single card slot, or the lack of not adding some kind of internal storage. For professional use (which this totally camera could be used for, such as a second body for weddings etc), its an unnerving process to document such important work with out a fail safe backup. IMO every other complaint is nitpicking (such as the same battery yadada), but to have this second iteration of the X100 with still no secondary data storage was a big woopsie by Fuji and nerfed an entire market of sale revenue.
I understand that this camera is not AIMED at that market, but even hobby and enthusiasts would appreciate a secondary means of storage, and if adding it in and it opens up the system to other potential markets then that can only be a good thing. How hard would it have been to bung in 128gb? Or even the microsd card ZF solution (I mean its still only a UHS-1 system anyway).

This is likely aperture dependant. As long as it can resolve the the extra detail at f5.6 or f8, like you would shoot for street most of the time, it would still be useful. I don't have the camera, so I obviously don't know. 40mp is pretty demanding, so it will be interesting.

IMO this camera would be AMAZING if it allowed you to swap lenses. The F2 lens is probably super sharp, but sometimes you want a faster lens for a shallow depth focal plane. There are plenty of super fast, very affordable, X mount lenses out there which would look so cool on this body. The TTartisan 35mm f0.95 for example.

xt30ii is the same size and design basically with interchangeable lenses. The only problem is that there are currently no lenses as slim as the x100, because it is designed to be really close to the sensor. once you add interchangeability you lose a little bit of the size benefit. but there are still some pretty small lenses like the 27 and 18 on the XT30 which are still fairly compact but not optically as good.
