BSN RN here! Yes, it's mentally draining, toxic work environment, it does pay the bills but is it worth your peace of mind? Your mental health is everything. I have some friends who left the profession all together. I am on my way to other things, looking into NP and other less taxing profession .......If you choose to stay in the program, be ready to work your ass off and I mean it!!!! If you think you can cheat your way out of nursing school, good luck because you have a board to pass in the end. I still have friends who are trying to pass it 2-3 years post grad. You get some good and bad days in the profession but the bad outweigh the good period. I push through it because I come from nothing, and I am the only one supporting myself, no mother and father. They have passed away. Nursing was my way out to support myself. I would choose something else if I could do it all over again. There are so many medical professions.
Hi, my daughter is 24 years old and has her BSN RN and I was a medical assistant and phlebotomist for many years so she was already exposed to the healthcare environment through me! However , I always wanted to get into the nursing program! She would tell me, mom choose something else! I said if I don’t do nursing I will go to a social worker program! It was supposed to be a team career but ITS NOT. I have never seen so much back biting and clicks since high school. There's alot of BULLYING and BLACK BALLING!!! I witnessed a lady be fired and the state called on her because she didn't agree with homosexuality. But the kicker was she just refused to give her opinion on the matter..... I promise sometimes I tell my family just take me to a bush doctor if something goes wrong. And let's not get into how employers are throwing nurses under the bus. We ate being sued and jailed behind doctors negligence. But a nurse is easier to replace than a doctor. CYA because when shyt hits the fan, the lawyers will not be there for you. They will protect that hospital and the policies will be turned in their favor. Be careful y'all. Make sure you carry your own insurance if you can.
Omg im in an OTA program... thats I've decided to withdraw from. Like being there is mentally tired which started to affect me physically.. like im a happy person... i smile at everyone... im telling you its so bad that i cant fake a smile... i just look sad.. overall my heart is not in the program and its not what I thought it was.. im more of a talk therapist person so im going back to school for that.. my mental health class this semester made me realize i was in the wrong field. I just cant stand going to the school & being in a cohort full of shady people & people who dont care for me.. im just unhappy.. like i had an exam and failed it on purpose cause i didnt care to study at all cause they have drained me.. they haf a meeting with me trying to get me to stay they even brought in a professor over the PTA program... and im like i been battling this for 2 months i made up my mind.. i dont needa conference.. i talked to myself, God, and whoever else listend about it.,, my heart and mind was set on leaving.. our situation is very similar but im leaving the OTA program.. i wanna help people but not the way OTA wants or does. Plus i live in memphis and i have to commute to jackson tn everyday girl... when i say i was sick like teally sick when it came time to come to that school I was sick. Thats how i knew it was time to leave along with other mess in my cohort being completely females of all ages. I didnt realize how physical you have to be with people cause i wanted to talk to people and things of that nature with therapy and i got RA... girl im 24 and fragil lol. im not doing that.. but yeah im happy OTA worked out for you. I pray psychology works out for me cause im tired of school 🥹. So sorry if this was mad long. Thanks for reading if you did !

If you don't have to rush, become an MD. Maybe that's the issue. Work at a hospital which will support your schedule. You can pay for your car and go to school. Lots of mentors as well. My internal medicine doctor here in Michigan has two interns from Michigan State University in her office in Novi for the summer. Both are second year undergraduate. Both preparing for the MCAT after next year. Go for it.
Respect. You definitely have to take care of your mental health. And honestly, it's a process to learn especially when you're a diligent worker. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
I agree, protecting your mental health is everything! That’s the only way I was able to survive nursing school. I posted a video on my channel about my nursing school experience.
The accelerated nursing programs are brutal. I had to withdraw from it and get into the regular nursing program, I made a video on my channel about the transition as well. New sub here and best of luck to you.
@@MaeRae901 Please don't quit. Find a few classmates and form a study group, use them as your accountability partners and share necessary information. You will still spend sleepless nights by yourself preparing however, you will have a resource in case you need someone to talk to. I also found that reaching out to other students in the class ahead of yours can help, I made connections and they were able to give me books and other study material as soon as the semester ended. But don't go through nursing school alone. I don't know how I would have made it through my program without all of those connections.
Nothing is easy folks. You people are young. Try doing this with children after 35. This year I will break 150k as an RN. Don't get discouraged. The race is won by the ones who stick to the original plan and don't quit!
I was in a respiratory therapy program in 2020, but flunked out by three points due getting Covid and losing a family member to the disease. @@asiya9360 nursing school is not easy but it can be done. Don't listen to all the negative comments. I work in cardiac icu and love it. I bought my house 3 yrs after being a nurse. Nursing school is not about being smart. Put in the work, study hard and you'll succeed. Put a couple hours in everyday but also take breaks because it can be overwhelming.
Nursing school and nursing has always been challenging for over 100 years. When I went to nursing school in the 1980's. I worked full time also. I was bullied by instructors. I was pregnant. My father died. I had no emotional support from family. I had a lot of mental health moments. I decided I was not going to let anyone stop me from achieving my goal. I did not talk about nursing school at work. At nursing school I did not talk about work. I also never slept or hardly ate. I did a lot of meditation to stay focus. I had a instructor who told me I would never make it as a nurse. My baby's daddy told me to quit nursing school marry him and raise the baby. It's 1924. I still working as an RN. 39yrs and still going strong. I never retired. I worked many area of nursing. ICU's tele, medsurg, homecare, private duty and long term care. Night shift is the best for me. I love my job and cannot imagine doing anything else. I ignore my coworkers toxic personalities. I focus on the patient. "Tired" I don't put that work in my vocabulary. life too short. Just keep a sense of humor and things will be fine
So glad I stumbled on your video. Thank you for sharing your journey, I felt like I related so much to what you were saying. How quickly that emotional and physical burnouts can hit and the lack of eating was me too. I personally struggled with panic attacks and intense anxiety after a few family members passed years ago. I recently returned to college, and starting my 2nd month in my OTA program. I've been trying to find balance with studying and keeping a life for myself through this process. Right now I've been struggling with documentation. I feel like I am over complicating the SOAP note. Any advice for a new student? Thanks again,
I understood where I went wrong in the nursing program so going into the OTA program, I tried not to make the same mistake. I continued to use a planner, I would write my due dates on the calendar and plan my mini study sessions throughout the week ( I would study / review no more than 1 hour). My weekends, I tried to keep majority of the day to myself by not spending no more than 3 hours on school. It would vary depending on if I had an exam that following week. Far as SOAP notes, please don’t sweat it, you will not use after graduation. You most like won’t see it on the cota board exam either. Just remember the basics S( subjective-what the patient said) O(observation, what did you see the patient do) A( assessment) P (plan, goals)
@@cavewater7220 the job market seems to be getting better but I think it depends on what setting you want to work in. I’m currently seeing more positions available in the skilled nursing setting than other settings
No God will not give you more than you can handle, however, He never said there won’t be hardships. I believe the harder the fight, the bigger the reward.❤
Yes, true! But once your mental health is involved then that’s when you need to take a step back. Mental health is everything, without it you’ll be miserable, unhappy & stuck.
I had a conversation with an administrator shortly after I started my RN career. They said nursing programs focus heavily on their NCLEX pass rate, so often they will press you pretty hard in the first semester or two trying to weed folks out. If you were struggling to get proper rest and also working, that's a whole lot to deal with. You seem like an amazing person, and I wish you all the best in the future. Warms my heart to see young people putting God first.
Imagine how some of the administrators feel. Like they have to contantly make sure compliances are up to date and being followed, update policies, govern human resources, handle financials of the facility(everything costs money!!), dealing with collections, patient financials, Ethics, staying up to date with Economics, new diseases that arise, etc. Alot of us Admin dont just stare at the computer we have to work and actually research, brainstorm, do certain repetitive actions depending on the admin role. Girl its alot. We may not do hard labor but our brains does it for us and yes Mental Health can arise from all of that especially if things arent going the way it should.
I am a Registered Occupational Therapist...started as a OTA...my worst mistake was going into this wretched profession and bigger mistake was getting a graduate degree in this bs thinking it would further my career...smh its a stagnant profession with very little growth/limited potential...16 yrs wasted..i started nursing right after highschool..i regret leaving nursing its much more versatile and way more areas/opportunities to move into... My husband is a icu RN but has done several different roles and pay has only increased as well as his knowledge.. Me however im making the same..and even got a 5 dollar paycut during Covid.. My best advice is to find a Part time nursing program...every program isnt set up the same..keep pushing forward. Trust me in a few years you will see how messed up and dead end therapy is. Many Therapist are now Going into Nursing because of the sheer ability to move into so many areas.. Girl i see full-time therapist doing part time nursing programs with grace....look into it. Dont give up!!! Therapy is not it Sis (sorry not sorry, i wish someone had warned me smh).
Hi, I appreciate your comment and I agree the profession of OT is a stagnant career. There’s not much room for career growth in this profession unless you want to become a director and the people that I know that have became directors end up stepping down. I have started the process of going back to school.
@meekazanielle Yes, much more solid path with multiple opportunities. My husband is a icu nurse manager and he has grown leaps and bounds past me professionally, has done so many different things with his license.. Meanwhile here I am in neutral 😐 the therapy field is just way too specific for the skills to be utilized in different capacities outside of clinical settings..its a trap lol like a pigeon hold!! Proud of you for opening your eyes and seeing the bs from now. I am in my mid 30s now so the appeal to take on another program just isn't there..still scrambling in that regard. But Congratulations honey on your new endeavors 🎊 👏🏼🫶🏽
Your experience is incredibly similar to mine during my OTD program. I lasted 15 months of the 3 year program and felt so much shame and low self-esteem for leaving but I just couldn't do it anymore. My mental health has been so much better and my relationship with God has blossomed; I've been an agnostic Atheist for most of my life but lately I've been drawn to religion. Quitting school has been among the biggest blessing of my life 🙏🏻 I hope my relationship with God with strengthen as time goes on.
Work is work...... That's why it's called work. Do what you want to do. I've discovered that no one really cares what you do. So you do you. Don't feel bad for that.
I love when people put their mental health first. I am aimijg to getbinto nursing to work on the clinical side of research. What i dont understand is why some nurses work 4+ 12 hrs shifts oer week. Some even work at 2 different hospitals 5 or 7 days per week. Why? But the finish about it being hard.
I understand however, we all have different goals and I chose to work extra days to save money that I invested in my real estate business. That’s the best decision I made in my nursing career. I share how I got into realestate and nursing on my channel.
The fact that your instructor suggested that you take sleeping pills is absurd. Nursing school is horrible. Iam so happy that you put yourself first and knew that your mental health was more important. I come out next year and even though I have been in healthcare for 3+ decades and have 2 degree under my belt. Nothing compares to going through a nursing program. Much success in your new profession

Great advice! I agree because occupational therapy isn't it long term..its a dead end profession with very little ability to use those silly skills elsewhere..its sad tbh..as a Registered Occupational Therapist I regret my decision to leave nursing..I got into PA later on in life but my mom died 12 days into the program...so at that point I just moved on but that gnawing knowing therapy ain't it hasn't stopped... My hubby is a RN..he left Physical therapy school as soon as he did his observation hours and saw the foolishness lol
I think ppl like u said glamorous nursing and it’s not what y’all think it is- first of all every job overworks it’s staff and gets underpaid that’s not new and second u truly have to love what u do u here for the patient yes shit is gonna b hard n annoying but it’s something inside u that keeps pushing u to b a nurse and if u have that feeling then nursing is meant for u- all the stuff u mention the $ the opportunities can’t just be a reason to be a nurse u have to truly love n b dedicated to helping ur patients- it’s more of a mental job than anything else

See, that’s the first I heard something like this..
I LOVE this response!!!
I hope everything works out for you. What do you plan on doing with your psychology degree ?
@@meekazanielle I plan to get my my masters and become a talk therapist

I’m not in nursing school I appreciate those who are in the profession . I’ve heard it’s tough and see more nurses leaving
Go for it.
Sis I feel you I am on life support nursing school is no joke!!! I study like 8 hours a day
It will be worth it in the end as long as you have compassion
I like the way you got straight to the point.
Thank you, I try .
This is so helpful, I appreciate the transparency!
Thank you ☺️
Respect. You definitely have to take care of your mental health. And honestly, it's a process to learn especially when you're a diligent worker. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
Thank you ☺️
I agree, protecting your mental health is everything! That’s the only way I was able to survive nursing school. I posted a video on my channel about my nursing school experience.
The accelerated nursing programs are brutal. I had to withdraw from it and get into the regular nursing program, I made a video on my channel about the transition as well. New sub here and best of luck to you.
I’m in the accelerated program and all I can say is that it’s been a real nightmare!! I contemplate everyday if I should quit 😢
‼️‼️💯💯 love this sooo much 36, 3 kids and doing this shii!!!! Started with LPN and moving on to RN soon afterwards 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Money is not everything!
I was in a respiratory therapy program in 2020, but flunked out by three points due getting Covid and losing a family member to the disease. I tried to push through that semester while I was sick and depressed. I should have just withdrew instead of trying to make it work. I don’t regret it now. I’m working on my MBA currently and taking the LSAT soon to gain admission to law school. The stressful stories I hear coming from my friends in various healthcare occupations makes me appreciate that I’m not an RT.
Rt has less stress than Rn's
@@emuye-shinbira8268that’s good to know. I am in my first semester in the RT program
Law school is also stressful but it sounds like anyone who does medical is suffering.
Same thing happened to me when I join an anesthesia program. The Holy Spirit was warning you
You didn't miss a damn thing. Real nursing is a curse. I regret being one every single day lol

Well to help yourself you should find another career. I don't understand staying in a career that is extremely toxic to your mental health. Those higher ups don't care about the nurses nor the patients only their bonuses and nunbers.

Girl I'll cry on my paycheck. Nursing isn't easy but nothing is life is. It gets easier overnight and the pay is good.
I was just thinking that like damn girl I can’t relate. But I did it all the right way, got all pre-requs at community college and got ADN. Bridged over online in 6 months. Otherwise I think I would’ve had a way worse experience!

I hope I answered your questions. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any more questions. Good luck !
@@meekazanielleThank you, this was incredibly helpful!
Hey I’m thinking about doing OTA this summer how are you finding the job market?
Thank you so much
Imagine how some of the administrators feel.
My friend was Cota and she recently left the profession and just became a LPN with the goal to get her BSN
Good for you on knowing your limits! Major life lesson!
Thank you
Your experience is incredibly similar to mine during my OTD program.
Complain***
Because they have to work. Who has a degree and chooses not to work.
I understand however, we all have different goals and I chose to work extra days to save money that I invested in my real estate business. That’s the best decision I made in my nursing career. I share how I got into realestate and nursing on my channel.
I start my program at august , I’ve been advised to not work at all but I get it. I’m not even trying to work because I’m sure I will BREAK DOWN 🌚
Working and nursing school is hard, if you don’t have to work, I wouldn’t .
Yeah working and going to nursing school is hard. If you don’t have to work, I wouldn’t.
That's what happen to me I broke down .
I agree, nothing compares to nursing school.

I do understand girl. I have my BSN ,and i cried eyerday. Students were mean, i had just 3 people who i stayed with to do homework etc. It did change mi life and mind. Its long hrs on your feet day after day no bathroom breaks. No gratitude from patients and harassment from adm. Nursing??? Not a bed of roses. Get into computer or something of the like, NP, MD please 🙏
Great video !!! Thanks.
