    They knocked it out of the park with the styling. And the engine. There are certain things I could nitpick like the tail unit and the "flat fishtail" exhausts but this is all done to make it sellable in all markets. It is a thing of total beauty. Well done BMW!!

    This is the only cruiser I'd put my money on.
    And you're 100% correct about the design, this will look just as pretty in 30 40 years.

    • @anthonyprice5596
      @anthonyprice5596 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Do you remember BMWs last cruiser they made....no, they were shite! , you would loose a packet if you bought this, just as everybody did in the 90s that bought the R chrome elephant,they even tried making it a tourer, couldn't sell it. Don't beleive the hype, wait a while and see how they go wrong, then thank me.

    • @karthik.g63
      @karthik.g63 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@anthonyprice5596 I don't judge products based on the hype :)
      I look for things I find appealing or useful. I find the R18 very appealing, plus the boxer seems so different from the usual crop of twins.

    • @anthonyprice5596
      @anthonyprice5596 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@karthik.g63 theres is a reason why most cruisers are v twin, because it fits, so you can put your legs and feet in a comfortable position. Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki all have made and sold 1000s of Harley clones, and some of them have been better, but being different doesn't always work. Just because BMW have managed to sell loads of GSs they think a boxer engine fits the cruiser market? No. This bike will bomb its DODO 2 look at the 1200c the chrome cruiser, it didnt sell well, why, because the engine stuck out the side, I have to say, it's a better bike than this one, but if I was spending that money on a bike, I'd not want to be sitting like a jockey with my seating position cramped up. Harley are probably laughing at this, because all those early adopters after wasting their money on this pile will see the light and come running.
      The cruiser I'm waiting for is the Vtwin from Royal Enfield, because it will be comfortable and competitively priced.
      This will be a blip on the radar, mark my words.

    • @karthik.g63
      @karthik.g63 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@anthonyprice5596 Consider your words marked :)
      And personally I prefer the mid mounted pegs as I find them way more comfortable over longer distances, they're also more fun to ride. Plus the boxer with so much low end torque fits the character of a cruiser better than a V-twin, runs cooler too.

    • @anthonyprice5596

      @@karthik.g63 I'd love to think you were right, last year I bought a 1250rt it went back 5 times for warantee in a year, eventually it failed, dangerously, after speaking to BMW customer services I was given a total refund, if I bought another BMW so I paid the extra for the K1600, I got half way across France when the gearbox locked up, I pressed the optional extra emergency assist button.....guess what it did work!! After about an hour ON MY MOBILE I was picked up by BMW assit, they took me to a dealer, and just drove off!! I Waited for the dealer to open, as it was 5am and they took the bike in, said they'd need it for two weeks, so I provided with a vauxhall corsa to get me back to home,getting on the ferry took 3 hours because it was a French hire car!!
      So I was without a bike, for a month, when It eventually turned up( damaged repaired, with panniers missing!),I spoke to BMW customer services, they generously refunded me for my £350 for the emergency assist, an £5 for phone calls, but had no knowledge of the panniers? , this went on for over a month, I had a touring bike, damaged with missing panniers. I eventually after speaking to a legal representative I sent them a letter, 2 days later I received a phone call from BMW they agreed to totally refund me, only one proviso, I didnt go to MCN with my story. However they didnt mention youtube.
      I bought something else, but I will never entertain another product from BMW car, bike or otherwise, they don't even make there own scooters, they are regarded SYM scooters.
      So you waste your money. Don't say I didnt warn you.

    Beautiful bike. I like that they're going retro, but I wish they'd do a smaller version that was even more like the old 50's and 60's R series BMWs. Those vintage BMW's are some of the best-looking bikes ever made. If they could make one that looked like a 1960 R60 but with modern brakes and engine upgrades, I'd buy that in a heartbeat. That R18 is too much motorcycle for me

    This is a great first video where the fawning matches our enthusiasm for this bike. I think their decision to position the bike as a fully customizable kit is in itself very modern and exciting for custom shops everywhere. The stock itself is just a platform, where the market can participate in the creative expression that's unique for each owner. It's a brilliant strategy.

      Knut Meyn, I am in total agreement with you after breaking my left leg in a low speed accident on a Moto Guzzi V7. Those cylinders sticking out the sides can be like sledgehammers to parts of the rider’s body, especially the legs. On the BMW boxers it has been only recently that the models changed and the cylinders have been raised higher on the crankcase. Wether this is safer or not as safe I’m not sure, but I can tell you that I sold that V7 and would not own another. I did have a 1995 BMW R100R and on that model the cylinders are low down on the crankcase and I had no problems with it and felt completely safe riding it.

    I would love to see these kind of videos if you make a mention of the price of vehicles along with the fuel consumption.

    Imagine falling on a side with this bike. Cylinder got bended and engine cease to function. And now imagine this happening in a middle of nowhere. Fantastic.

      You must be kidding - there is no way the cylinders would “bend” short of being hit by an IED

      @@pieterfaber24 With enough speed I guess that there would be nothing left from cylinder. And that's even without of an IED. :D
