being a only child who never knew his father to teach him these things.. I appreciate videos like this. It removes the idea that the average person can't do something like this. Thank you.
Great video. Appreciate the effort it takes to produce these stories… hats off to Carl’s. Especially liked the bits of singing and condescension, almost like my 2nd grade teacher (😉)…
You took the pins out from the back of the caliper with vice grips after removing the clips from the pins. When you put the pins back in, you drove them through the front of the caliper and put the clips on. So does that make a difference. I would think usually when you take something apart you put it back the same way as you took it apart.
Thank you so much for this very detailed video. I have a 2018 Colorado (but probably not quad cyl brakes) and I am getting ready to replace the pads and rotors. These video instructions will save me a lot of money.
I wish I would have watched your video before I did the front brakes on my Colorado haha. I don't think enough people emphasize how important it is to clean the inside of the calipers and the caliper pins to ensure everything fits back nicely. I went in a bit unprepared but eventually got the job done!
2019 Colorado, Front and back with new rotors. Yea, pins clips on Left side were gone. But used the wheel of death to clean them up. Blead the calipers, installed the new parts and went for a quick ride around the block every is good to stop.
When I did mine it was pretty hard to put the pins back thru. Now my brakes smell. Do you think I didn’t clean something enough or maybe because I dont have a dremel to clean the pin holes out so the pads are dragging?
I know this was long ago. Then pistons seal are leaking on the caliper. I saw a comment about bleeding the brakes. You do not need to bleed the brakes. As long as the system was not opened.
I have read that Those are stretch bolts to the caliper. They should never be used- torqed twice. At least that what I have read on my 2018 z71 Colorado??
I just helped my buddy change his gmc brakes, it was a nightmare we did it wrong to the max. I have had experience with the calipers that flip open so we took out the 4 bolts and the brake fluid fell out!! We are dumb I know , we had to pretty much do a whole drain and fill n bleed it turned into a 4 hour shift! We had no brake fluid on hand lol good times though we r idiots trying to save a buck
yes pre 2015 was the harder to do captured rotor, you have to remove the whole wheel hub to be able to get the rotors off, much easier on the 2015 and up versions, hope this helps.
Nice video! I appreciate the real world vehicle with rust and corrosion. Background music was fine, good volume also. I heard you’re supposed to take the bleeder valve off when you compress the pads to expel old fluid. Any truth to that?
Watched a less detailed video on this front pad & rotor replacement from a GM tech on here. He recommended taking the brake fluid reservoir cap off when you push the caliper pistons in. Bleeder valve can be tricky as it could allow some air in the lines if not done right, and you'd need to make sure the reservoir is filled afterwards. I'd only mess with the bleeders if you're doing a brake fluid change as part of this maintenance.

Thanks. It would have cost me $480 but with your help it only cost me $305. I also was able to spend time with son and daughter while they helped me.

Just you talking is better than music. Thank you.
no background music,,GREAT,, great job, thanks, really helped

Nice that you greased the contact points for the pads. Many people dont do that!
Super helpful brotha. I'm about to get started right now. First time with Quad Pads. Thanks.
Why did you skip putting the pads in the caliper, the most difficult part?
Noticed that the pins were replaced in the opposite direction. Assuming it doesn't matter which way the pins go?
Can't hammer them out next time
noticed that put them back in the way you take them out
Appreciate the video! Your commentary is perfect too

Same here! First time is always the hardest

So you didn’t torque down the caliper bolts to spec?
you put the pins threw the front when you put it back togther but you took them out from the back so im taking it it don't matter is that correct
Where can you find the torque spec for the calipers?
“Your not a real mechanic if you use ryobi….shut up…”. 🤣🤣🤣 quote of the century
You’re, not Your! 😊
What is the name of the tool used to push the caliber pistons back in? Looks very handy.
amzn.to/3m8csS2
You put the capilar pins in backwards 😮 don't know if it matters?
You noticed that also ?
It'll matter the next time someone tries to remove them. Way more difficult trying to hammer them out from the back than it is from the front.
What is the torque for the caliper bolts?
133 lbs/ft
Did you put the pins in backwards or doesn't it matter?
When I did mine it was pretty hard to put the pins back thru. Now my brakes smell. Do you think I didn’t clean something enough or maybe because I dont have a dremel to clean the pin holes out so the pads are dragging?
pins are backwards.
Doesn’t matter
No now they’re the right way. You want to pull them away from the truck to get them out not into the truck. Idiot. Common sense
Might be awkward for the next brake job

Excellent video! Nothing wrong with Ryobi🤘🏼
Very good info
My pins are screws phillips rust locked

On my 2015 GMC it only says that for the rear Cal Mount bolts

I just did the same. Many curse words flying.
Was there a year/model of these where the whole hub had to come apart in order to change the rotors?
yes pre 2015 was the harder to do captured rotor, you have to remove the whole wheel hub to be able to get the rotors off, much easier on the 2015 and up versions, hope this helps.
Do you grease the calipers
I don't want to do these in my driveway haven't done quad Pistons before. Just dual
Good job

There is vehicle status screen for the brake pads on the newer trucks console. How is that actually monitoring the wear rate of the pads??
a sensor built into the pad
Nice job 👍
you put the pins back in backwards differnt than they came out why?
Probably doesn't matter but you put the pins in the opposite way that they came out. Just sayin'.
Lol shaaat uupp
Hate the music
Worst video ever
