    Former Civmar AB here 11.5 years with MSC left in 2021. Now sailing SIU. The union use to negotiate MSC raises. President Obama stop that when he was in office. Now MSC raise is in line with the rest of the Fed Government. Also, what I learn in my time in MSC. The union will not stand up for Civmars 100% like full members in the union that ship out of it union halls. The benefits of the union is great when you’re a full member of the union. Training is free at piney point. We don’t get hours for leave. We claim vacation checks when sign off a ship. Which is a big lump sum of money.
    MSC and Union have there pros and cons. I’m enjoying your videos. Keep up the good work. I’m enjoying seeing old shipmates.

    Great video. I'm prior Coast Guard and I'm currently going through the hiring process at MSC for deck dept. I have so many questions, some of which may seem stupid but non the less I could really use a person that's in deck that won't blow smoke up my a*s and that will help guide me or answer my questions honestly. Is there anyway I could reach out to Alex as questions come up? If not that's totally fine but I thought it was worth the ask. Thank you for putting out these videos.

    Hello Lady Trill/Hailey,
    I’m interested in potentially working for Military Sealift Command, so I’ve been looking for content on the company and your channel has been fantastic, gotten a lot of valuable information! However, I still have a few questions, and I was hoping you can answer them.
    1.) What is the Supply Department Hierarchy? From what I’ve read it’s like Supply Officer on top with the JSO(s) underneath, and like Entry Level Supply Utilityman at the beginning, but I don’t really understand the in-between and how each position may interact with each other. (Bit of a broad question, but any insight you could provide would be appreciated)
    2.) I’ve heard the rotations are currently supposed to be 4-month on with 1-month off, but you end up on the ship longer than 4 and sometimes they either want you back early or you can mess with the system and get a little more time off. However, I’ve also heard that MSC is trying to switch the rotations to a “4-month” on with 2-months off. Is there any merit to that potential change?
    3.) How tall was the tallest person you worked with/seen working on an MSC ship? Bit of an odd question, but I’m solidly above average height for a male as I stand around 6ft 5in tall, and I’m quite worried about being physically comfortable living and working on a ship. Will I be ducking through every doorway and such?
    4.) Finally, do you have any recommendations on where else I can find information about MSC? Alex mentioned joining Military Sealift Command 101 Facebook page, but that appears to be only for current civmars. I’m still 100% going to continue watching your content, but any leads to additional content creators, social media groups, or websites would be extremely appreciated!
    Apologies for all the longer questions, and the paragraphs of writing, but I’m quite curious about MSC, and want to learn as much as I can about the company! Thank you for all your efforts!

      Hi 👋 wow ok
      #1 . Supply department goes entry level is SU ( supply utility) we clean the ship . Then it goes to ASK ( assistance store keeper ) they basically keep stock and a count of everything.
      Then it’s yeoman if I’m spelling that right, I’m not even sure what they do lmfao I think it’s more computer work for them . Then it’s jso ( junior supply officer) they like managers for Yeomans assistant storekeepers 😂😂 .. then there is suppo that’s the whole supply departments boss . They are licensed officer…

    • @ladytrill904
      @ladytrill904  ปีที่แล้ว

      #2 . Yes the current rotation is 4 on 1 off . They are trying to move it to 2 off but they have to do a lot more hiring for that to even come into effect. I don’t see it happening until maybe the end of 2024 .

    • @ladytrill904
      @ladytrill904  ปีที่แล้ว

      I currently work with a jso that like 6”6 , 6”7 . Sometimes he has to duck through doors but from what I see he’s ok .
      Question 4) i know there’s a few more people out here that does TH-cam videos but it’s mainly just them going out in town , nothing very informational .

      @@ladytrill904 Hi! 👋
      Thank you for responding so quickly! Your explanation of the main positions in the Supply Department is much appreciated, and I’m glad to hear that MSC is at least working towards a 4-2 rotation, even if it will take a while because it seems that’s a big thing your podcast guests said they would change. Quite unfortunate about the lack of additional informational content out there, but it makes me even more grateful for your channel! If it’s not too much trouble, I do have a few more questions about MSC.
      1.) Could you give a bit more information regarding how vacation time at the end of your hitches/rotations works? Like how does it accrue and when you are on vacation is there a certain time you are forced to come back? Like Alex seemed to say he does a 9-month on and 3-4 months off, is he saving up his vacation time over the 9 months or something?
      2.) Through my attempted research into MSC, I’ve heard/read some things regarding MSC’s intention of creating some sort of virtual pool for jobs where you can fly directly from your home to the ship instead of stopping in Norfolk to wait for a job. Is there any substance to that? It sounds like a logistical improvement if it’s true.
      3.) Also related to the pool, you’ve spoken about sitting in the pool waiting for a job and sometimes taking a while to get a job, but you’ve also mentioned that finding relief can be difficult. Can you explain a little more about that job placement process? Because I guess it doesn’t seem to make sense to me that you could simultaneously have a bunch of people wanting to get off their ship and people waiting around to get a ship assignment. What are the hold-ups?
      Apologies for another batch of long questions. I really appreciate all your help and look forward to watching all your future MSC content!

    Is the entry level pay (65k-70k) on MSC website base pay…or are they already estimating/including OT and whatever other pays they have?

    • @ladytrill904
      @ladytrill904  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Entry level base pay is not that high lol . 25k-35k not including ot then after ot it will go to probably 50-60k depending on your position

      For SIU you have to sail at least 90 for two consecutive years, have all dues paid and initiation fee paid. Then you become a full union member and given your B book. Once you have your B book you can choose the job/ship you want rotary or relief. C card you get what the union gives you.
