It annoys me that people don't see that it was him or noone, when he left and NMTB started with the guest hosts we lost the vitriolic evil in hosting that the show became famous for for 15 years. The show went soft.
Frankie Boyle was great in it. He could have continued as regular host and been as great as Lamarr and Amstell IMO. But I'm guessing he didn't want to.
I never really got into Amstell as the host. Funny here and there but something about his personality and his style of humour is not to my liking. I always suspected that that was why Bailey left not too long after as he was often left ignored by Amstell in favour of the two guests sitting either side of him.
Literally everyone on the panel embodies punk more than Donny. His desperate attempts to look 'cool' were so cringeworthy. He reminded me of some of the kids I went to school with, so anxious to give everyone the impression that they don't give a fuck that they actually accomplish the opposite.

From Wikipedia 'On 7 February 2007, Tourette appeared as a contestant on pop quiz game show, Never Mind the Buzzcocks (Series 20, Episode 2), on which he faced a severe amount of ridicule due to his poor attitude early on in the show. This led to him leaving the panel mid show, only to return soon after. *His appearances since have been limited, due to his commitments as a full time, self employed manufacturer of plastic fruit.*' Nothing says punk like selling plastic fruit, and later doing a self-assessment with the HMRC.

Evem Sid Vicious rings his accountant up every tax season in Hell. Which is EVERY season, btw.
After this car crash appearance Towers of London literally vanished without trace. It was as if they'd never existed. I imagine a record company exec watching the broadcast then ringing the A&R dept: "Are Towers of London on our roster?" "Yes sir." "Drop them. Immediately." "Yes sir."
The towers of London were famous for about 15 minutes people realized from the start every thing about them was phoney and contrived: their accents their music and their attitude bunch of posh boys looking to make a quick few quid. I expect their mummies and daddies helped finance them
I was really curious about what he'd done since then. Apparently someone is still updating his wikipedia - also, he still bleaches his hair. "In 2019 a documentary film titled "Towers of London The Movie" was announced. It has since been renamed "F**K IT UP!" It is set for its world premiere in April 2022." That's right now!! for a punk band with such little reach, they sure love the idea of having documentaries made of themselves
I really miss Simon amstell. Me and my mates spent years trying to be this savage to each other but we never touched the sides. The most unladdy lad ever!
I remember watching this episode way back. Most of it behind my hands. Can’t deny the bloke took all the jabs well. But god, he is the epitome of all the people I knew in college that thought themselves hilarious and original. But they were incomprehensibly oblivious to their shit craic and incapable of reading a room when they opened their mouth.
yeah pal, people in their early 20 are immature. If you really think everyone else is the problem and you have it all sorted out at an early age then you just don't see yourself how others do. People can tell when your highly strung. ''Shit Craic'' people who say that are usually shit craic. But yeah Donny is a tit.
I agree with all of that but I found the host to be almost as embarrassing, and you can see Bill Baily squirm a bit when he says Bill is a professional comedian - you will never win. Bit cringe.
I don't know how many times I've watched all Simon's episodes, especially this one, but I've only just noticed... did Donny make his own Nevermind The Buzzcocks tshirt? That's quite sweet! Bless his... however many brain cells are still functioning.
Gotta say, I watched some of this in other compilations, but after watching more of his appearance here, he's taking the flak quite well and is occasionally genuinely funny.
As much as Donny's persona is obviously manufactured and not punk in any meaningful sense of the word, he's at least self-aware enough to stay on, take the grilling and just have a laugh. That being said, Bill is way more punk than Donny ever has been.
Remember watching this episode at the time. This guy was great! Able to take a ribbing, have a laugh and make it a great episode! “Well, we’ve all had a lovely time” 🤣

Amstell was a breath of fresh air after Lamarr got so tangibly fed up with the show (I remember once he signed off as The Hunchback Of The Notre Dame and it was… not great).
The more I watch this the more I actually like Donny, he takes every joke well and he can laugh at himself too, he had Bill on the ropes!! And the 19.99 joke was actually pretty good... Donny you're a good man👍

@@jonajon91 Yep, I'll definitely give him that one. I chuckled.
More like a chump! Am I right?
And, lest we forget, he can of course f***in' d**k on the f***in' Sex Pistols.
@@DM-kv9kj yeah sooo!! YEEEEAH SOOOOOOO!!!
After this car crash appearance Towers of London literally vanished without trace. It was as if they'd never existed.
I imagine a record company exec watching the broadcast then ringing the A&R dept:
"Are Towers of London on our roster?"
"Yes sir."
"Drop them. Immediately."
"Yes sir."
"Also, find out who's responsible for signing them and fire that person."
"Right away sir.
Record execs would love this as it would gain traction for the band. Whatever you think of donny on this show he was good value.
They also got their asses kicked at a nightclub in London the same year. Band member "Dirk" had a bottle smashed over his head
Even though he is a cringey knob, he's still 100x more bearable than most modern day influencers and 'celebrities'
I totally agree, can't stand the guy but much better than the crap these days repeatedly
Shit... I bet he walks on the grass, when there's a sign SAYING NOT TO
Mad lad.
"Please wash my hands before entering the ward? WELL I'LL SEE ABOUT THAT"
I've seen him touching wet paint
I've seen kick a football in a field with a 'No Ball Games' sign.
He took it like a champ they had good fun , this is the best episode 😂
Fair play to him having a laugh with em though.
Matthew Stephens i thought he was a great sport even when they were ripping him
That fat fuck out of fun lovin criminals was a bellend too
revivedfears It's funny, any time Huey Morgan appeared on the show, he was great, except for the one time with Rizzle Kicks.
Agreed. His reaction to "you think me a small penis. Well I never" was sound. He laughed, knowing he'd been out-gunned in wit. Took it well.
At least he didn't storm off like that bellend Preston.
Well said.
yeah pal, people in their early 20 are immature.
Bit cringe.
The epitome of noughties indie here-today-gone-tomorrow wanker
He didn't so much take tha jabs well as be totally ignorant to the fact they were taking the piss out of him
His £19.99 joke was actually funny to be fair
It was brilliant unlike most who didn't get it straight away.
@@kanifuker721 Yeah, it's definitely on us.
Lmfao that’s how you can tell he’s funny
I am the walrus was quite good too
I don't know how many times I've watched all Simon's episodes, especially this one, but I've only just noticed... did Donny make his own Nevermind The Buzzcocks tshirt?
That's quite sweet! Bless his... however many brain cells are still functioning.
Gotta say, I watched some of this in other compilations, but after watching more of his appearance here, he's taking the flak quite well and is occasionally genuinely funny.
Still reference "Did his helmet go blue?" every time the colour blue is mentioned.
Still do the moocho moocho lavo
@@Turt777 And _now_ I'm _cool..._
@@Turt777 ah, it's sort of like begging?
Do you do it in Amstell's mocking impression voice?
@@brianm2881 Yes yes yessss
Possibly the best 13 minutes 46 seconds on TH-cam, funny every time I watch it
As much as Donny's persona is obviously manufactured and not punk in any meaningful sense of the word, he's at least self-aware enough to stay on, take the grilling and just have a laugh. That being said, Bill is way more punk than Donny ever has been.
This is easily the best episode of NMTB.
Bill is normally the nice one who keeps things calm, but you can tell he has no respect for Tourette so doesnt hold back.
Remember watching this episode at the time. This guy was great! Able to take a ribbing, have a laugh and make it a great episode!
“Well, we’ve all had a lovely time” 🤣
Simon Amstell has got to he one of the sharpest and wittiest comdians out there. Hes just always got a better line!
donny tourette is a lovely, warm and gentle fellow away from the cameras. I once had a splendid brunch with him and his husband from Pakistan. Lovely chaps, very giving, all the best.
Eh
this is the kind of person Paul Kaye would satirize
Good comment, he does look a lot like P.K. however.
bcause his helmet turned blue - is legit the best line on the show.
lol Amstell. What a legend.
This has aged remarkably well.
Exactly, donny is an absolute tool but he’s strangely Likable in my opinion. Nothing he says is offensive or too out there. He’s harmless and it’s forever brilliant
Oh my darling...Simon is about as punk as a dishtowel. I love it!
Great show. Especially with Simon and mark...great day's the best of buzz.👍🤣
Down with Thatcher
These few episodes of Buzzcocks might have been the best TV ever
I love Donny's desperate attempts at being funny.
He’s so crap at being funny
@@ceceanne4388 desperate attempts.
My first BF introduced me to this show likeeee 14 yrs ago and I still watch it!! Only the episodes with Simon as the host though cause he was what made the show imo!!
🖤🖤🖤
I remember when this show started in the mid-nineties. It seemed so appropriate to have a show like this to arrive during the vibrant guitar music from that era.
Donny's smoking now?!! Crying laughing. Bring back NMTB with Simon. He's a legend
Lmao I love this clip, Simon is so sharp in his comebacks, and Bills a ledge.
Phil did a great job in semi-defending Donny for the sake of comedy - made this show arguably the best in the post-Lamarr era.
Amstell was a breath of fresh air after Lamarr got so tangibly fed up with the show (I remember once he signed off as The Hunchback Of The Notre Dame and it was… not great).
Simon Amstell on top form brilliant
Bailey's face when Simon was getting felt up is ssooo on point!
people complaining about Donny i think he took it all in good humour
He was definitely a better sport than Preston.
He did
I am the walrus answer was funny
i've always wanted to have a go at that "mucho - mucho - love - o" but some how my better judgement always kicks in.
"what's he doing?" "he's having a sit down" 🎶I AM AN ANTICHRIST!🎶 even out of context that set of sentences go so well together
The more I watch this the more I actually like Donny, he takes every joke well and he can laugh at himself too, he had Bill on the ropes!! And the 19.99 joke was actually pretty good... Donny you're a good man👍
He didn't have Bill "on the ropes" mate. He called him an ugly tramp because he couldn't hack jokes. He handled himself for the most part pretty well though.
@@revivedfearsYeah but Bill got offended by it, if you’re a comedian you should be able to get as good as you give. The pain in Bill’s eyes was palpable
@@j.c985 I reckon it was more a look of "did you really just go there on national TV". In th sense of throwing petty insults instead actual witty jokes.
TV gold. BBC hasn't aired anything this good for years.
One of THE greatest episodes
Bill had no comeback when donny called him ugly . Simon bailed Bill out .
Bill's head nearly popped woth. "You'd be at home on the streets" 😂
Donny is smOKING NOW?!
Simons reaction was epic
A cigarette that you can LEGALLY buy in SHOPS?!
I'll try to carry on but I am sHOCKED and APPAAALLED!
Watch this every few years, still makes me cry laughing
Fair play he stayed and had a laugh with them.
Never heard of this guy so looked him up on Wikipedia, looks like the thing he's most famous for is being on Buzzcocks
SOUP SOUP! A TASTY SOUP....... Crunchy friends in a liquid Broth.
Whatever tiny career towers of London had went up in flames. Amstel really doing gods work
I've watched this edit SO many times over the years (on diff, TH-cam channels) and it still makes me die laughing
Watch the gerry baboona one 😂
I think this was the best episode
“About as punk as Enya” has to be one of the most underrated comedy lines in British TV history. It was both absolutely cutting and killed any remote possibility of a mainstream career on sight. A poser who was evidently completely out of his depth.
he had no rebuttal to being an ugly tramp who would be at home on the streets though
Brilliant programme
"You're about as punk as Enya." Billy Bailey take a bow 😂
I’m doubled up in stitches with laughter what year was this hilarious
Poor sod is never going to live this down. I thoroughly enjoyed taking the piss out of this as he most definitely deserved it at the time. Now he's clean living, off the coke and booze and far more humble than he ever was. We've all made mistakes, luckily we weren't on a game show making some of our worst.
Frank Bandana
yeah back to stage school for him i warrant. Pity lilly allen "made it" first time round .... though to be fair she had family in high places
He was young and stupid. He's in his 30s now and travels the world, I believe. He's into healthy living now, doesn't drink, smoke or do drugs. Also was a yoga instructor for a while. He's nothing like this anymore. We were all idiots at 19 lol
I met Donny Tourette in McDonalds in London, and he spoke to me, he said"Do you want fries with that?"
