    This is still one of my favourite (and in my opinion, one of the best) solo shows of all time. He was doing vulnerability before it was cool, and when it was definitely off brand for him. What an amazing thing this show was.

      +sleuthed He's alright. Though I hear, within his delivery. the dominant influence in his life was his Grandmother . Maybe he might read Narcisus and Goldmund and give heterosexuality a chance. He seems to be missing the ability to look favorably upon women.

    In his Netflix special he still has his vulnerability, but he seems much happier, more carefree. more integrated and confident. It's nice to see his personal evolution over that span of several years.

  • @LolaWestham

    Ive been his fan for 10 years. And just last Sunday I saw his work in progress which he started with « I am quite happy » . he talked about having a boyfriend and having a pretty blissful life + jokes.
    But it was a delightful experience as if the circle was drawn and this part of his healing journey has come to a happy end ☺️

God I wish there were at least 20 of these....I don't even laugh at most stand up shows but this one...this is the one that kept me laughing and I am a woman, I can only relate to some parts but still...it's just so, so good.

    "But when I danced people heard" so hilarious

    • @MrSlothJunior
      @MrSlothJunior 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Qiqi Wang It probably doesn't mean anything. Dancing is not meant to be heard that's why it's funny. He wasn't good at the things he did, but when he danced, people heard.
      It's just an unexpected and partially nonsensical remark with good delivery. Not to say that you can't dance loudly by stamping, being vocal, or the like.

    • @SubZXD
      @SubZXD 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Qiqi Wang Some people never get any attention from the public untill they do one big act. And they often use the line "when I did this, everyone heard" as if to signify that people are paying attention to them now. He's parodying the line by saying his dancing was so uncoordinated and loud, they all heard it

  • @PhillyFrank1

    Such an uncanny visage -- and a perfect description of self-narration, over-analysis of social situations, and magical thinking. His taste in men -- thin and vulnerable -- definitely resonates with me. Hope he finds what he's after. Despite his self-deprecation, I'd bet he's a catch and fun in the sack. He's brilliant and adorable and I wish he'd been around when I was younger.

    It's fascinating to watch someone be so honest about themselves. The jokes almost ruin it. Shows you how fucked society is that this particular show is such a unique experience. Paraphrasing he said, back when he was younger and had not grown into his looks life was difficult and that's where he gets those jokes from, but now being a an internationally known comedian and excepting his own personality/physical identify he no longer feels that way most of the time.

    So much genius here. Where is he these days? Seems like he should be in the public consciousness a lot more than he is.

    I’m not very into those stand up comedians who are just being cynical and sarcastic and use such characters to make money. I personally really like Simon’s standup which genuinely makes me feel that he’s as sad and detached as I am, and he’s not using them as advantages.

    I have actually never heard someone speak about things in a way that resonates like this with me fuck man me and Simon amstell are like .... the same... the thoughts about not living in the moment and describing that "memory" to someone else in the future and liking deathly skinny people and so much in between. Im shook rn

    I love a gay comedian whose entire shtick isn't about being gay. He talks about life, and his sexuality is a part of that, but it isn't something he relies upon.

      +chipmunktubetop Ate you sure you didn't fall asleep halfway through? Although .in keeping with the anal theme you did say "entire".

      +Dan V. I don't think he goes on about his sexuality per se... His anecdotes deal with failed relationships and dodgy intimate encounters, which are pretty relatable to a lot of people regardless of sexual preference. His whole shtick, to me, is just a (very humorous) flux of social anxiety and insecurity.

      +Rebecca Pate That's because straight people are spoiled. Some of them realize it, others go their entire life thinking the world should cater to them.

      +chipmunktubetop Yup, exactly. the material would have worked equally well if he happened to be straight.

      +chipmunktubetop I agree with the sentiment, and I love this comedian. But most of this brilliant show is about relationships...which are gay relationships. So it's quite an odd thing to say it doesn't rely on it.
