    This is still one of my favourite (and in my opinion, one of the best) solo shows of all time. He was doing vulnerability before it was cool, and when it was definitely off brand for him. What an amazing thing this show was.

    Ive been his fan for 10 years. And just last Sunday I saw his work in progress which he started with « I am quite happy » . he talked about having a boyfriend and having a pretty blissful life + jokes.
    But it was a delightful experience as if the circle was drawn and this part of his healing journey has come to a happy end ☺️

    • @presa609

      +sleuthed He's alright. Though I hear, within his delivery. the dominant influence in his life was his Grandmother . Maybe he might read Narcisus and Goldmund and give heterosexuality a chance. He seems to be missing the ability to look favorably upon women.

    This man is the only one I keep rewatching out of all the stand up shows and I've seen a lot. I adore his sense of humor and his mind in general. God I wish there were at least 20 of these....I don't even laugh at most stand up shows but this one...this is the one that kept me laughing and I am a woman, I can only relate to some parts but still...it's just so, so good.

    His stand up is magnificent! I love the way he uses his fears and sense of inadequacy in life but then threads them through his development and lightbulb moments. This was a seriously therapeutic piece of stand up for me.

    Such an uncanny visage -- and a perfect description of self-narration, over-analysis of social situations, and magical thinking. His taste in men -- thin and vulnerable -- definitely resonates with me. Hope he finds what he's after. Despite his self-deprecation, I'd bet he's a catch and fun in the sack. He's brilliant and adorable and I wish he'd been around when I was younger.

    It's fascinating to watch someone be so honest about themselves. The jokes almost ruin it. Shows you how fucked society is that this particular show is such a unique experience. Not to detract from Amstell's genius. No other comedian could pull off this stand up. Truly inspiring. Jolly good show. Maybe get some therapy though before you turn into a Bond villain...

    "But when I danced people heard" so hilarious

    • @MrSlothJunior
      @MrSlothJunior 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Qiqi Wang It probably doesn't mean anything. Dancing is not meant to be heard that's why it's funny. He wasn't good at the things he did, but when he danced, people heard.
      It's just an unexpected and partially nonsensical remark with good delivery. Not to say that you can't dance loudly by stamping, being vocal, or the like.

    • @SubZXD
      @SubZXD 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Qiqi Wang Some people never get any attention from the public untill they do one big act. And they often use the line "when I did this, everyone heard" as if to signify that people are paying attention to them now. He's parodying the line by saying his dancing was so uncoordinated and loud, they all heard it

    I'd go gay for Simon. However, it seems like I'd also have to lose about 25 kilos. I think that may be the greater challenge.

    simons reinvention of what already exists at 40:00 is very similar to my own thoughts on politics.
    As a teenager I was very typically rebellious. I felt that the whole world was corrupt and broken, and needed to be rebuilt from the ground up.
    But then over the years I thought about how exactly an ideal world would look, when tempered with what is realistically possible considering that humans are by and large stupid and selfish. One step at a time, by following everything to it's locical conclusion, I came up with a societal system that looks extremely similar to what we currently have in the western world.
    Not exactly the same, there are a few systems that could be streamlined or overhauled, but the general shape of society was near identical.
    And that's when I realised that the world we live in is not only not broken, it's actually incredible that it even functions as well as it does.
    We all love to point out the flaws and accuse politicians of being corrupt idiots, but really we're just a smidge off the best that humans can do. While we should of course continue working to improve, it's important to step back and realise just how vast a success we've already achieved. There has never been a time in history when life was as good as it is right now.

    Clever. Articulate. Interesting. Gay comedians who"s whole act is about being gay, black comedians about being black, predictable, boring boring boring. This guy, self deprecating, thoughtful, intelligent, confidently insecure in a very real likeable way.
