This guy is wicked smaat (in my best Boston accent). This is a guy who has studied percussion and the drum set in particular in extreme detail.
One of the most innovative players of our time.

I love listening to him explain the sound of different hi hats for different song sections and that the budget friendly gear is sometimes already the perfect sound for the music. Putting the music above all else is the only path. This is a great interview, thank you.

Just started drumming bout 2 months ago. Before i ever saw this video or knew who Mike Mangini was, I did things that others thought, was too much, or i was off beat. I just learned that i was syncopation. Thank You

He is so underrated and unappreciated because he was so advanced in his approach on how to drumming in modern music. We don't know how to appreciate or to understand what he's doing with the drum musically.
A Grammy to his resumè for a track where he is the absolute star is definitely a way to draw more attention and love towards the master!

I'm a simple man, I see Mike Mangini, and I click.
Just my two cents, but - I'm not a musical fan of DT by any stretch since their debut. Images and Words was refreshing in a sense where they incorporated adult-contempo, Kenny G style, and that was interesting back in my junior yr of HS, but....
Present day...Mangini is such an amazing percussionist, and such a nice, appropriately neurotic fella, such a deeply affected genius creative, that - out of everything he is involved in, I'll be a fan for life. He NEVER lost his gratitude from the audition back in 2011, was it? He never lost it.

I lol'd when we said he wrote down what the other drummers could do better than him. I would love to see that list. It was probably just a list of their names and just things he likes about them cause what can Mancini not do?... honestly.. what?.. but what do I know? I'm just happy to be here!

I'm just half way through this interview, but I'd ask him how he overcame frustrations over very difficult drum parts. Just perseverance? Mangini is awesome, I just uploaded "Our New World" that I thought was a simple enough... yeah right. Those bass drum notes are placed Mangini style = fry your brain a little 🤣
