In 1992, I went and stood in silence by the tree that Jaco died leaning against. The bouncer who killed him should have been dealt some street justice. RIP Jaco. What an amazing talent. Thanks for the video, Steve. p.s. Tony Williams' untimely death was so typical of our evil medical system that just doesn't give a sh+t and is designed to cull middle class and poor people over age 50. I wonder if Tony had enough redhead genes to affect how the anesthesia affected his body? He had freckles. Redheads take more of it, but are far more sensitive to it.
@@Jordi_polla67 That was along time ago. I seem to recall it was sort of near the Dakota. But I'm not sure. I don't have a map in front of me. A friend took me there at the time. I'm not even sure the same tree is still there. I visited not all that long after JP died.
So typical for Jaco to horn in on a gig. He did that at the Playboy Jazz Festival when I was there. I am still not sure if it is enthusiasm or ego, but I suspect a bit of both.
With people like Jaco, it's like the Gods give you something with one hand, but take away with another. It's like: "Ok, we will give you incredible musical talent and you will revolutionize and redifine the role of the electric bass, but as a trade-off, we will make you bipolar, schizofrenic and prone to addiction. Are you game?". And jyeah, many of us wouod regard it as a fair exchange....
As a musician....I find this conversation to be like eating ice cream! A fantastic treat!
Brilliant story indeed.
Jaco - Gone but NEVER forgotten.
Thanks for posting this interview from my Jazz channel on your page. I hosted the Jaco tribute on my show.
an amazing moment and so wonderful to hear it told.

Why?

IIRC in the jaco documentary it was stated that he was in the hospital in critical condition, then later died....
He died at Broward General Hospital.
THAT is the COOLEST story!!!!
Classic Jaco
Wow Steve I had no idea. What a great story.
Steve should write a book on his life
