That one bonnet handle on FLC has more class than the whole cascadia does and it went 3.6 million ks. I'd be really surpised if cascadia goes for 600 000 ks without a bunch of sensors failing

Between the 21 Cascadia and the 82 FLC 120, I'd go with the 82 FLC 120!

Makes me feel better that even Steve misses gears from time to time. Everybody does it and if they tell ya they don't, they're liars.
    🤟😎👍

I have 20 years of experience driving long haul OTR. I still miss a gear every now and then.

I love to hear it from the old-school truckers presenting these types of comparisons because of their wisdom in detailed from their youthful times to this era

The FLC can be worked on by anyone with a set of wrenches. The same can't be said about the Cascadia.

I've spent the past 10+ years driving crapcadias and recently started driving cabovers and old big hood trucks like the flc120 here. Hands down I'll take the the old truck over the crapcadia any day. The visibility of a cabover is far superior to the new truck, the ride of an old truck and reliability is way ahead. If an old truck breaks, you know what it is. A new truck breaks, a computer degree is needed to find the sensor that died.

Love the long bonnet style of the old girl but when it comes to making a mile, nothing beats the comfort behind the wheel. Especially when the older we get, the rustier we get.😅 Great video comparison!

One is a set forward axle with a long snout. Ride is gonna be much better. They still make longer snout trucks. For a while I drove a Coronado, which was the set forward axle equivalent of the FLC 120 I think. What a dream to drive.

My FLC120 was the best truck I’ve owned, some real iron 💪🏼💪🏼 Not the crap Daimler stuff they’ve done to Freightliner!

They've owned Freightliner since the early 80s. So you probably owned a Benz Shaker

In the mid 70's Freightliner came out with the FLC a conventional with obvious design ideas from a conventional Peterbuilt.
Of corse it's a dinosaur compared to what's being made today.
But here in the states alot of Us love trucks!
The Cascadia looks like a kitchen appliance and has way more down time then the old FLC because of all of the electronics and regen/DEF systems.
But the Cascadia is far more comfortable for sure.
This is a good thing as you will be quite comfortable while waiting on roadside repairs or a tow truck.
The old trucks had better road feedback too.
I enjoyed this video, just adding my two cents.
I made plenty of $$ driving old FLC's

Australia has a mix between European and US trucking. In Australia cabovers/forward control truck are still popular as well as long nosed truck you can see European cabovers like Volvo FH, Scania, Mercedes Benz etc driving along with Kenworth, Freighliner, Western Star etc we even still making Kenworth cabover until now. You won't see something like that in either Europe or US. Australia uses B double, shorter trailers like in Europe and yet using articulated trailers with dolly like in US.

As long as you don't get the DEF system and other emission norms, all other trucks are great too.

Looks like the old Freightliner Classic XL I drove years ago. I’d love to come to Australia and experience the trucking and railways.
Btw….I was 3 years old when that truck was put on the road.

Had a laugh at the 7.50 min mark that truck will be shagged at the 1 million mark let alone 40 year's time

    • @shawnfox445
      @shawnfox445 3 ปีที่แล้ว

If they make 1 million. 122SD Freightliners are whooped at 250,000 miles doing heavy dirt work, ignoring the legitimate issues the DD16’s have with grenading around 250k miles, my 2000 KW and my 1986 FLC120 have less rattles. It’s a shame! They’ll nickle and dime ya to death.

I had a Cascadia. Once it hit 200k KM the engine died, and not long after the transmission died. Not only are they unreliable, the outside is fuckin ugly. The FLC would last another 2 million km easy!!!

As an American truck driver who drives a company truck but also who owns an old 1972 White model 4000 I have to say I still go with my old white it's just more fun to drive I don't really care to argue about manual versus automatic transmission but the looks of modern trucks are just ugly

Flc 112 Stupid mercedes cab thing that had a chain hooking up the steering from left to right.. what a shyt box it was. When I drove in the usa Australia could've had the FLD 120 with a stand up integrated cab before kenworth did in in the 401 oh no let's make a bitsa bomb mercedes cab bomb.
