    The original pump (I'm pretty sure it's original) on my 2003 v6 mustang has been whining. Yesterday, I replaced the pump with a re-manufactured one and I put in Valvoline Maxlife ATF fluid. It is whining at least 2x louder than it was before! Should I flush and put Mercon V in there, or does that mean the pump I received is bad? (I don't know what kind of fluid was in there before I flushed, sorry. It was a brown color).

    • @lastmoto777
      @lastmoto777  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It might be bad, but you really need to use the Mercon V in these pumps. Its a little more expensive but its what the pump needs. Anyway. Best of luck with it.

      Same happened to me and I used Mercon V. Although people on tik tok have been telling me that remanufactured power steering pumps for old fords have a 50% chance of not working right out the box. Several people have had to return several pumps before getting one that didn’t scream. A brand new pump is probably the way to go here

    Reinstalling the pulley is a NIGHTMARE the bolts in these standard installation kits do not fit the thread pitch of the bolt threads within the pump. It is a complete disaster I have no idea how I'm gonna get this pos pulley on. I already destroyed one pulley wheel and rendered my car completely inoperable.

    I have a question about the pulley installation. Am I doing something wrong? I've been through two pulley kits I've bought which have had the ends of their bolts stripped trying to put the pulley back on. Once for the original pump and once for a new pump I didn't even intend to get. I'm worried I may never get my pulley back on at this rate, just damaging kits and pulleys. You make it look so easy.

    • @lastmoto777
      @lastmoto777  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you are putting the pulley back on.:
      1 First put the pulley on the end of the shaft then take the long bolt
      that threads into the pumps shaft. ( dont put it in
      the shaft yet )
      2 Thread the nut collar onto the bolt.flat side facing the pulley and
      thread it like halfway up the bolt.
      3 Then turn the bolt all the way into the shafts threaded hole. The
      collar should not be touching the pulley yet. Make sure the bolt is
      all the way in.
      4 After that turn the nut collar towards the pulley until it touches it.
      5 Take a box wrench that fits the collar nut and put it down the bolt
      and onto the collar nut
      6 Take another wrench or socket and put it on the long bolt.
      7 You are then going to hold the bolt still ( closest to the radiator )
      so it doesn't turn , and tighten the collar nut until the pulley is all
      the way onto the shaft.
      ( that is going to basically push and slide the pulley onto the
      shaft a little at a time ).
      It will go easy at first and then get tougher towards the end.
      You will get it on !!!! Thanks for watching & Best of luck with it.
