Nope. I took these screenshots at identical locations in multiple places assuming Crew 2 looked better. When I actually lined the shots up, this is what I noticed. I don't care which game looks better. These are facts.
The saturation and contrast from 1:13 onwards suddenly increased tenfold for TC1, the shadows in-game are never crushed black like that. and I swear the road lines were crispier in the TC2 alpha compared to the one in this video huh
3:43 that damage comes from hitting poles and debris, not the wall. That was the one thing that bugged me about TC1: hitting random debris did loads of damage, but hitting solid walls did next to nothing
they fucked up chicago, no sears tower and so many landmarks went missing. it used to be geographically correct, now its just a city with buildings with a river through it
I don't know man. I recently jumped out from TC1 to TC2 beta and game looks so much better to me. Especially lighting effects (that night tho) and draw distance. Textures from up-close are more detailed, although some models still looks too cubicle. The thing is: both TC1 and TC2 come to the same console generations, there isn't much space for improvements and that's real shame. I'm playing this game on medium PC specs (1060) on ultra with constant 60 fps (game is capped). There is so much room for better graphics, just don't expect it before next generation of consoles arrives...

I play both games on ultra settings 2k resolution on a PC, and the crew 2 looks way better to me, but in this video the color pallet and details both look turned down. If I've never played it my self I'd say it looks worse then the crew 1 based on this video, but in game - at least for me - it's completely different. What settings did you record theses games on? edit: Also forgot to say, you can see the entire damage model on cars in the photomode. When you crank the slider all the way up, it looks pretty good.

I suspect the color impacts the general feel of the game so much and the aesthetic is designed to be view with a very specific tone. The lighting also changes SOOOOO much in the look of the game, that it looks worse in the video then it does in game for Us, because of that. Perhaps my monitor's settings are adjusted to in game slightly better then to youtube or something, idk. Even the resolution of the video and game being different make it different, so just because it looks worse than the game actually does, that doesn't mean it's uploader's fault. Or I mean, maybe it is a little, but not intentional i don't think. Also, The crew 2 just looks different then the first one, so it possible to subjectively prefer one or the other. You could say for example that Fortnite or Overwatch looks shit because of how simplistic it is, but some people like the cartoonish look.
Ok so I've just played the beta for a few hours and watched this video again and I can confirm, if looks different for me then the video. Not making an accusation or anything, just stating a fact. And I can also state another fact, that the image at 1:27 of the crew 1, has a completely burned sky. I've played that game a lot and never seen a sky this white or trees this bright. So the image was either altered or your settings are different to mine. Again, I'm not saying there's a conspiracy going on, just that it looks wrong, for what ever reason. + the color of the paint is the same, but I think it might a different varnish type. Reflections on cars stand out more in the crew 2... At least when I play it.
Odd cause personally i think the second game looks a lot better. It's possible that some areas were down graded due to the added water detail (cause boats and water racing plays a big deal now) and to increase the draw distances when you're in a plane because the first game had a pretty poor draw distance when you take the camera high up to look at areas further away from the player.
the cars sounds, car physics, the overall quality they are all sooo better, but i really would love it if they did upgrade the rain a bit ... maybe add heavy fog at times. Just would love some different weathers with good quality
I partly agree. But there are things that should be improved - rear-view mirrors, clutch, physics, graphics (texture and loading distant objects and textures).
It is but they made some unwelcome changes to the map. In New York, buildings like the iconic Empire State and the Chrysler Building have been replaced with buildings that look like cheap knockoffs and the Chrysler Building looks complete different at the top. They also changed the coastal road going out of LA up the California coast by putting a bizarre non existent roundabout. I love the Crew 2 but the only changes I didn’t like were some changes to the map.
Even though the graphics are similar. They did fix the issues like cars having same exact sounds and others sounding completely different to their real life counterparts and some cars being slower than their stock versions and improved the steering and physics and the sounds of the cars overall the crew is stillin its beta so its not perfect......yet
I respect the fact that you recognize the game as a very early copy. The effects of texture and saturation might be dull in the full release of The Crew 2 anyway, but you need to talk about how the map in The Crew 2 is set to be almost 3 times larger than its first edition. They might be focusing more on distancing than close up textures. Average players of games like The Crew are worried about leveling up and going fast. They might not worry about how good the bushes look from 2 feet away but how the horizon looks while going 150 mph. But that’s just my opinion. Great video in general!

Man the biggest problem of the crew was the driving mechanics, and they fixed that so maybe for you the first one looks better (and clearly you havn't played the 2 much) but the gameplay of the 2 is way better on every single point
My biggest issue playing the previous betas was that they made the map bigger, but didn't really fill it with anything. They also removed the snow in the northern mountains which a lot of people were upset about.

You do have to take into account they added boats and planes. That means they had to fully texture every roof of every building, then they had to add water affects for boats plus make the water seem more alive in the sequel. That takes up a lot of room I imagine and the game is huge just on its own, I honestly can’t imagine how much data they used to make this game
i talked to a ubisoft insider months ago and he told me the physics in TC2 were downgraded from TC1 physics so they could have more GPU overhead on the consoles........... so the consoles ruined TC series because everything else is a step forward basically and the physics make NFS2015 look like assetto corsa
One difference between the 2 games that bothers me is that in Chicago, they added more buildings but removed the Sears Tower (Willis Tower). Why they did that I don't know. But being the most iconic building in the city you'd think they would've left it.

With the graphics and textures you have to take into account that the Crew had a massive overhaul in 2016 when wild run came out. Me being a person who has played the game since it first released I can say that the wild run expansion made the game a lot better. I would've preferred if you waited till the Crew 2 had fully released and compared it to the Crew release
the crew 2 has better physics, and to make it more easy to play on a device that is not that powerful, you have to reduce the graphics quality. I had this problem playing BeamNG, so I took away reflections, reduced the overall quality and now it works perfectly!
Thank you for pointing this out it’s been driving me crazy when people say the crew 2 has better graphics... they went with a more flat, matte color pallet. I think the crew 2 overall is better but they wanted to push 4K and that’s the problem ... I think we would all prefer higher refresh rate 1080p
Something a lot of people don't seem to understand about the low availability of visual car damage; the reason why it is only this little has to do with broken looking cars only being negative to the game's feel when playing it. This is no burnout, this is no GTA. In this game, the gameplay is designed so that you are actually aiming to continue driving right after you hit something, sometimes even without resetting. Having an intense damage model would just not be worth it at all production-wise, since there is no room for actually showing this off, as gamellay-wise it would only be annoying (if you car would be taking more realistic damage on every tap, and if you'd have to drive around with a fucked up car) and art-wise there's no room to fit in a cutscene showing the car's damage (or such) before you reset. That being said, a cool solution to this would be to have (purely visual) more realistic damage models that would, after colliding with something and getting damaged, slowly return to the original, undamaged state (though not taking more than (~20?) seconds) - as this would give both the satisfaction of being able to mess up the car (at least, with a single blow), and the satisfaction of being able to drive with a clean, undamaged car. Though, we're talking about deadline-pushing-, push-the-employees-to-work-hard-and-deviler-mediocre-games-because-of-a-lack-of-development-time- publisher Ubisoft, though. So perhaps that's just hoping for a little too much..
The graphical changes are reflected in the load times and the transitional element between the menus and the ability to fly around the world in 3d space. I think they did lower the quality of a lot in this game to get that smooth feeling when pulling back on the map, to significantly improve load times, increase draw distance and allow flight creating a larger world space on the Z axis.
This seems to confirm what I've seen in gameplay footage. I thought it looked disappointingly bland. Even after the graphics patch, The Crew could look either great or poor depending on lighting/time of day, etc. It looked best on sunny days with nice shadow effects, but not good at all when it was grey/cloudy. If The Crew 2 does actually look worse it will affect player immersion, and that's not good especially when Horizon 4 looks so good.
3:53 clearer reflection doesnt mean a better looking here. Have you seen any water puddle that reflect like mirror? I played the crew2 beta and gotta say they really nailed the realtime reflection this time.
The only thing that I prefer in the first game were the road textures. They had an actual "texture" to them. In TC2, they look just like a grey slab or play-doh or something. Overall, I think TC2 is a significant leap in both audio and visuals over the original. With some small design changes that can make it appear worse, such as the smooth roads and reduced damage effects, with the damage likely being a licensing and/or game design choice.
I love when people try to shit on games with “lower” graphics and here I am still playing GTA III lol. Imo graphics don’t matter unless it’s a legitimate issue with the game that makes the experience worse. 😄
The big difference is that The Crew 1 was going for being as close as possible to the original locations where The Crew 2 went more for more fun driving and hidden routes. A few key places, like Las Vegas, you can really see that they threw the realistic look of landmarks out the window.
Why can't they get proper car sounds? I mean you've already got the licensing to remodel the cars to put into your game why not get the actual sounds to?
Not sure what changes they did to the lighting model but, the Crew 2 beta does look really rough at night. I keep checking the graphic settings to see if something was turned down. It does run well tho.
I think they'll put finish touches on the final release of this game. The fact that this game plays wayyy better than it did in the closed alpha is amazing. It's unbelievable amount of changes and improvements made in a short time.
The only thing I want to see added would be some more JDM cars. I also want the clutch for wheels to be more sensitive, because you have to press all the way down for the clutch to kick in.
Yes... i'm sure my video card and monitor are greatly affecting the quality of a game when compared to a different game, both of which are being run on the exact same system. btw... when you record footage, the monitor is completely irrelevant.....................
My question is, why did they replace the statue of Lincoln with a generic looking standing statue? Even if they replace that after the Beta is over that's an odd choice seeing as they have a Lincoln statue model already.
I also checked The crater and yellowstone volcano in the crew 1 and 2 and was bummed that in the crew 1 both look better hope they improve my favourite locations
In this case, the more simplistic, "downgraded" graphics not only makes the game run easier, but also gives off a better visual aesthetic from afar. There isn't really a point to having super detailed textures if the game isn't going to get up close to them, usually this causes a grainy effect when these textures have high amounts of detail, not only that but it makes it easier to process motion blur with these more simple textures.
*Audio bug not mentioned* When playing in a crew with another player in the crew 2 they’re engine is louder and doesn’t sound the same; E.G Indian Scout for me sounds just like the real thing but my crew mates sound like a 125 Suzuki. This wasn’t an issue in The Crew (original) because all the cars and bikes sounded the same anyway
I wonder if they overhaul it when they update it again. This happened with the crew 1. It had a dark look with really red sunsets etc. On the update it was like another game with bright colourful textures.
Seeing how the planes make it so that the game also needs to look great from above and on the water, I wasn't expecting a big improvement here really. Not having to render tops of buildings saves enormous amounts of memory and calculations. Also I do expect that the lighting will be improving in the real game because thats normally something you finalize when the game is done. Still, the game doesn't look all that pretty in some cases (like the pools and the world at night) but for me it was fine enough to enjoy the racing in it
I get this was kind of considered, but this is a BETA test, the tests opens with a note that this is not meant to in any way represent the quality of the game they will sell. Having tests many games, I have done one from alpha to release once. While the graphics are there they turn them way down, to where the test was very pixelated version of what the high quality would be, something that was removed as time continued. The test is most likely been turned down for a few reasons 1) no one here is paying yet 2) they don't need the great graphics the release will provide to test the mechanics of the game and how the community feels about it. I think you need to put that message the developers provide at the beginning, rather then as a little note at the end, as to not diminish from the reputation of the game for a false reason, doing literally what they asked you not to. another way to see your argument in this video is comparing the content of crew, and the content locked crew 2 beta. yeah the one people payed for has more than a version given out to testers. Being fairly new into program development these are my thoughts, I would hate it give out testing copies and let the players know about this, only for them to turn around and do the opposite and thus hurt the reputation.
when driving trought the city you can see that part 2 has much better overall lighting for example. Also it drives better in my opinion and the gameplay gives a much smoother experience.
The one thing that really irks me about The Crew 2 is the VERY noticeable pop-in of certain smaller details and shadows. It was awful in the beta and hope it's fixed in the release as i found it way too distracting.
Also prefer the TC2 graphics version, the game felt alot smoother and the load times are insanely fast. Going from west to east literally takes one second where before it would take maybe 10-20. The gameplay itself also felt better and more smooth. I experienced no lagging popins with the TC2 where in TC1 the performance could drop or get poppins when driving really fast.
Does the story of the crew continue in the crew 2? Or is it's the same. Anyone tell me. I went to but The Crew and got info that The crew is releasing soon. So please do reply. Should I buy The crew and complete that and then buy the crew 2?
Don't forget how the original game looked before the wild run graphic update, it could be the same with the crew 2 so that it will be updated with better graphics by following content.
open beta is basically a test version with limited progression as not to reveal most of the main content of the game, which is available for everyone to play so devs can workout bugs with a large player base to report them.
I love the fact that people are complaining that the Crew 2 looks worse, but to me I feel like they put more attention to detail in areas that matter in a racing game. That said, the first Crew game got a graphics overhaul with its first major expansion, maybe we can look forward to the same with the second game?
I think you're judging the graphics for the crew 2 wrong, it seems to me that they are trying to go for a less realistic and more pastel feel to the textures and that's why the original game has a better look in a side by side screenshot comparison
You have to keep in mind that now every part of the map is accessible and therefore has to be designed. Because of that reason they had to downgrade on the textures themselves because there are obviously more. Furthermore, they added more entities (trees etc.) which also costs performance. Lastly you have to admit that the second game runs much better then the first one did (though it is sadly locked at 60fps atm). For me personally The Crew 2 creates a much better atmosphere and I don't mind the small downgrades in textures.
Hope you know that when The Crew came out the graphics weren't the better too, there was a HD update so don't start hating on a game that is still in beta and we don't know what will change when it comes out
Yeah they have a lot of work to do before the release date.. They have a whole lot of Famous Buildings & Landmarks missing out of Chicago such as the Sears Tower, Airport, & United Center etc etc.. The Stadium is not in St Louis yet. Yankee Stadium & the Chrysler Building is not in New York yet. The Mexican/US Border Wall is not going along the Border yet. The Bridge from Detroit to Canada is not even there yet.. Lots of work to be done by the 29th. 🤔

I have a setting on ultra, I have a huge 4K monitor, but the graphics do not seem too nice. Especially the blur of textures in the distance.

That's what you'd expect from a 4 years younger game, especially if it's a racing game.

Man the biggest problem of the crew was the driving mechanics, and they fixed that so maybe for you the first one looks better (and clearly you havn't played the 2 much) but the gameplay of the 2 is way better on every single point
My biggest issue playing the previous betas was that they made the map bigger, but didn't really fill it with anything.
They also removed the snow in the northern mountains which a lot of people were upset about.

You do have to take into account they added boats and planes. That means they had to fully texture every roof of every building, then they had to add water affects for boats plus make the water seem more alive in the sequel. That takes up a lot of room I imagine and the game is huge just on its own, I honestly can’t imagine how much data they used to make this game

One difference between the 2 games that bothers me is that in Chicago, they added more buildings but removed the Sears Tower (Willis Tower). Why they did that I don't know. But being the most iconic building in the city you'd think they would've left it.

With the graphics and textures you have to take into account that the Crew had a massive overhaul in 2016 when wild run came out. Me being a person who has played the game since it first released I can say that the wild run expansion made the game a lot better. I would've preferred if you waited till the Crew 2 had fully released and compared it to the Crew release

the crew 2 has better physics, and to make it more easy to play on a device that is not that powerful, you have to reduce the graphics quality.
I had this problem playing BeamNG, so I took away reflections, reduced the overall quality and now it works perfectly!

Thank you for pointing this out it’s been driving me crazy when people say the crew 2 has better graphics... they went with a more flat, matte color pallet. I think the crew 2 overall is better but they wanted to push 4K and that’s the problem ... I think we would all prefer higher refresh rate 1080p

Something a lot of people don't seem to understand about the low availability of visual car damage; the reason why it is only this little has to do with broken looking cars only being negative to the game's feel when playing it. This is no burnout, this is no GTA. In this game, the gameplay is designed so that you are actually aiming to continue driving right after you hit something, sometimes even without resetting. Having an intense damage model would just not be worth it at all production-wise, since there is no room for actually showing this off, as gamellay-wise it would only be annoying (if you car would be taking more realistic damage on every tap, and if you'd have to drive around with a fucked up car) and art-wise there's no room to fit in a cutscene showing the car's damage (or such) before you reset.
That being said, a cool solution to this would be to have (purely visual) more realistic damage models that would, after colliding with something and getting damaged, slowly return to the original, undamaged state (though not taking more than (~20?) seconds) - as this would give both the satisfaction of being able to mess up the car (at least, with a single blow), and the satisfaction of being able to drive with a clean, undamaged car.
Though, we're talking about deadline-pushing-, push-the-employees-to-work-hard-and-deviler-mediocre-games-because-of-a-lack-of-development-time- publisher Ubisoft, though. So perhaps that's just hoping for a little too much..
The graphical changes are reflected in the load times and the transitional element between the menus and the ability to fly around the world in 3d space. I think they did lower the quality of a lot in this game to get that smooth feeling when pulling back on the map, to significantly improve load times, increase draw distance and allow flight creating a larger world space on the Z axis.
This seems to confirm what I've seen in gameplay footage. I thought it looked disappointingly bland. Even after the graphics patch, The Crew could look either great or poor depending on lighting/time of day, etc. It looked best on sunny days with nice shadow effects, but not good at all when it was grey/cloudy. If The Crew 2 does actually look worse it will affect player immersion, and that's not good especially when Horizon 4 looks so good.

3:53 clearer reflection doesnt mean a better looking here. Have you seen any water puddle that reflect like mirror? I played the crew2 beta and gotta say they really nailed the realtime reflection this time.
The only thing that I prefer in the first game were the road textures.
They had an actual "texture" to them. In TC2, they look just like a grey slab or play-doh or something.
Overall, I think TC2 is a significant leap in both audio and visuals over the original. With some small design changes that can make it appear worse, such as the smooth roads and reduced damage effects, with the damage likely being a licensing and/or game design choice.

The big difference is that The Crew 1 was going for being as close as possible to the original locations where The Crew 2 went more for more fun driving and hidden routes. A few key places, like Las Vegas, you can really see that they threw the realistic look of landmarks out the window.

Not sure what changes they did to the lighting model but, the Crew 2 beta does look really rough at night. I keep checking the graphic settings to see if something was turned down. It does run well tho.

I think they'll put finish touches on the final release of this game. The fact that this game plays wayyy better than it did in the closed alpha is amazing. It's unbelievable amount of changes and improvements made in a short time.
The only thing I want to see added would be some more JDM cars. I also want the clutch for wheels to be more sensitive, because you have to press all the way down for the clutch to kick in.

Yes... i'm sure my video card and monitor are greatly affecting the quality of a game when compared to a different game, both of which are being run on the exact same system.

My question is, why did they replace the statue of Lincoln with a generic looking standing statue? Even if they replace that after the Beta is over that's an odd choice seeing as they have a Lincoln statue model already.
I also checked The crater and yellowstone volcano in the crew 1 and 2 and was bummed that in the crew 1 both look better hope they improve my favourite locations

In this case, the more simplistic, "downgraded" graphics not only makes the game run easier, but also gives off a better visual aesthetic from afar. There isn't really a point to having super detailed textures if the game isn't going to get up close to them, usually this causes a grainy effect when these textures have high amounts of detail, not only that but it makes it easier to process motion blur with these more simple textures.

When playing in a crew with another player in the crew 2 they’re engine is louder and doesn’t sound the same; E.G Indian Scout for me sounds just like the real thing but my crew mates sound like a 125 Suzuki.
This wasn’t an issue in The Crew (original) because all the cars and bikes sounded the same anyway
I wonder if they overhaul it when they update it again. This happened with the crew 1. It had a dark look with really red sunsets etc. On the update it was like another game with bright colourful textures.

TC looked so unrealistic in terms of speed. TC2 looks (in my opinion) a lot more realistic. escpecially in higher speeds.
Seeing how the planes make it so that the game also needs to look great from above and on the water, I wasn't expecting a big improvement here really. Not having to render tops of buildings saves enormous amounts of memory and calculations.
Also I do expect that the lighting will be improving in the real game because thats normally something you finalize when the game is done. Still, the game doesn't look all that pretty in some cases (like the pools and the world at night) but for me it was fine enough to enjoy the racing in it
I get this was kind of considered, but this is a BETA test, the tests opens with a note that this is not meant to in any way represent the quality of the game they will sell. Having tests many games, I have done one from alpha to release once. While the graphics are there they turn them way down, to where the test was very pixelated version of what the high quality would be, something that was removed as time continued. The test is most likely been turned down for a few reasons 1) no one here is paying yet 2) they don't need the great graphics the release will provide to test the mechanics of the game and how the community feels about it. I think you need to put that message the developers provide at the beginning, rather then as a little note at the end, as to not diminish from the reputation of the game for a false reason, doing literally what they asked you not to. another way to see your argument in this video is comparing the content of crew, and the content locked crew 2 beta. yeah the one people payed for has more than a version given out to testers. Being fairly new into program development these are my thoughts, I would hate it give out testing copies and let the players know about this, only for them to turn around and do the opposite and thus hurt the reputation.

when driving trought the city you can see that part 2 has much better overall lighting for example. Also it drives better in my opinion and the gameplay gives a much smoother experience.

The one thing that really irks me about The Crew 2 is the VERY noticeable pop-in of certain smaller details and shadows. It was awful in the beta and hope it's fixed in the release as i found it way too distracting.
I enjoy the game a lot. I actually didn’t play the 1st one but so far Crew 2 is awesome. I’ll be picking this game up.
Also prefer the TC2 graphics version, the game felt alot smoother and the load times are insanely fast. Going from west to east literally takes one second where before it would take maybe 10-20. The gameplay itself also felt better and more smooth. I experienced no lagging popins with the TC2 where in TC1 the performance could drop or get poppins when driving really fast.

open beta is basically a test version with limited progression as not to reveal most of the main content of the game, which is available for everyone to play so devs can workout bugs with a large player base to report them.

I love the fact that people are complaining that the Crew 2 looks worse, but to me I feel like they put more attention to detail in areas that matter in a racing game. That said, the first Crew game got a graphics overhaul with its first major expansion, maybe we can look forward to the same with the second game?

I think you're judging the graphics for the crew 2 wrong, it seems to me that they are trying to go for a less realistic and more pastel feel to the textures and that's why the original game has a better look in a side by side screenshot comparison
You have to keep in mind that now every part of the map is accessible and therefore has to be designed. Because of that reason they had to downgrade on the textures themselves because there are obviously more. Furthermore, they added more entities (trees etc.) which also costs performance. Lastly you have to admit that the second game runs much better then the first one did (though it is sadly locked at 60fps atm). For me personally The Crew 2 creates a much better atmosphere and I don't mind the small downgrades in textures.

Yeah they have a lot of work to do before the release date.. They have a whole lot of Famous Buildings & Landmarks missing out of Chicago such as the Sears Tower, Airport, & United Center etc etc.. The Stadium is not in St Louis yet. Yankee Stadium & the Chrysler Building is not in New York yet. The Mexican/US Border Wall is not going along the Border yet. The Bridge from Detroit to Canada is not even there yet.. Lots of work to be done by the 29th. 🤔
Are people forgetting about the graphics upgrade The Crew 1 received after release? I believe it was alongside one of the expansions.

ok.... 3 years for adding planes and boats to the crew 1, seems like a dlc with water improvements.
They're using the same tech, but the artistic department took lead on this one, necessary sacrifices to turn on certain features.
